What counts as a secret or Easter egg in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Some discoveries change what you can explore or earn; others are jokes, references, or rare dialogue triggered by an unlikely chain of choices. Larian has described exploration as a design priority: its Patch 7 Community Update says room portals hide characters and objects in unexplored rooms to preserve the surprise. Patch 7 also added 24 pieces of magical loot throughout the game, according to the same update; that is a patch-specific count, not a total of all hidden items.
Use the distinctions below to decide whether to detour: a secret may reward exploration or loot, depend on a companion or background, or disappear when you advance a quest. This is a practical guide, not a complete official inventory—Larian has not published a definitive catalog of every Easter egg.
Act 1 secrets: hidden places and discoveries
The Arcane Tower’s concealed basement
Spoilers: Act 1 area and loot. In the Underdark’s Arcane Tower, defeat Bernard and take the Guiding Light ring. Equip the ring while inside the elevator, then press the button that becomes visible. It leads to a basement with unique loot, according to a June 2026 independent guide. The route requires defeating Bernard first; the guide does not establish whether every item remains obtainable after other quest or world-state changes.

Festering Cove and the worshippers of BOOOAL
Spoilers: hidden encounter and choices. The unmarked Festering Cove is in the Underdark, in a red mushroom field between the Selunite Outpost and the Underdark Beach. A June 2026 guide describes kuo-toa there worshipping BOOOAL, who is actually a redcap. You can fight, persuade, or play along; the exact outcomes and rewards depend on your choices, and should be checked in the current game rather than assumed from a single route guide. Because the cove is unmarked, searching the side passages is part of finding it.
Necromancy of Thay and the magic mirror
Spoilers: Act 1 discoveries. A June 2026 guide also flags the Necromancy of Thay and a magic mirror among the easily overlooked discoveries. Both are worth investigating if you explore thoroughly rather than following only the main route. The guide’s summary does not specify their exact prerequisites, consequences, or missability, so avoid treating either as a guaranteed reward or a harmless interaction without checking the in-game prompts.

Act 1: companion and quest-chain details
Sazza’s rescue chain
Spoilers: quest outcomes. Sazza’s story can continue through a chain of rescues, making it a useful example of how a seemingly small choice can keep a side character involved later. A June 2026 guide lists the chain as missable content but does not provide a verified, complete route or a single point of no return. If you want to see where it leads, resolve the goblin-camp situation with her fate in mind instead of assuming the initial encounter is the whole quest.
Background-specific Inspiration
Inspiration milestones can differ by character background. A June 2026 guide highlights these background-linked moments as easy to overlook: a party member may gain Inspiration for an action that another background would not recognize in the same way. Check the Inspiration notifications and your character sheet as you explore; the guide does not enumerate every background trigger.

Act 2 and camp: Scratch’s small interactions
A June 2026 guide calls out Scratch’s fetch and support interactions as easy-to-miss content. Spend time interacting with him at camp and pay attention to the available prompts rather than treating him only as a camp companion. The guide summary does not list every trigger or item involved, so the safe takeaway is to revisit and interact rather than expect one fixed sequence.
Act 3: rare scenes and unusual triggers
Rare outcomes involving companions and major choices
Major spoilers: late-game character outcomes. In August 2026, GamesRadar reported on an official video in which Larian communications developer Aoife Wilson presented ten rare scenes. Wilson reportedly said of one Lae’zel outcome, “If you got this ending in-game, congrats, you’re one of about 50.” That is an approximate figure attached to one unusual outcome—not a count of all players or a comprehensive statistic. The report also mentions improbable outcomes involving Wulbren, Orpheus, Minthara, and Astarion; their rarity is a reminder that companion scenes may depend on a precise combination of decisions, not simply reaching a particular act.

The comedian, two bells, and a magical sheep
Major spoilers: unusual Act 3 sequence. A May 2025 PC Gamer report describes a community-reported sequence in the Lower City: kill comedian Harvard Willoughby, ring the Lower City guard tower bell, then ring the Open Hand Temple belfry bell. The report says a mysterious egg then appears at camp; clicking it summons a magical sheep. This is an obscure, secondary-source account rather than a developer-confirmed feature, so regard it as an unusual reported Easter egg, not a dependable quest or reward.
Baldur’s Mouth Gazette headlines
The newspaper’s headlines can change dynamically, according to a June 2026 independent guide. That makes the Gazette worth checking after consequential events rather than only once. The guide summary does not give a full list of headline triggers, so specific headlines should not be assumed from a particular quest outcome.

Pop-culture references and cross-game nods
A June 2026 guide identifies pop-culture nods among BG3’s Easter eggs but does not give a complete, verified list in its summary. Avoid treating every resemblance or fan theory as a deliberate reference unless the game or its creators establish the connection.
There is also a documented cross-game thread: in a February 2026 PC Gamer report, Larian CEO Swen Vincke discussed early BG3 hints in Divinity: Original Sin 2. He said, “Originally the reference to BG3 was very explicit,” and described the first draft as “very bad.” Those comments concern references in the earlier game, rather than a specific BG3 secret to unlock.
Patch 7’s additions are not a count of every secret
Larian’s Patch 7 announcement, published September 5, 2024, says the update introduced 13 new evil-ending cinematics. That figure describes endings added in Patch 7, not all endings in Baldur’s Gate 3. The Community Update separately reports 24 new magical-loot pieces placed throughout the game in that patch, including items such as helmets, gloves, and lightning-charged tridents. These official counts show that updates can add content, but they do not establish how many secrets or Easter eggs the full game contains.
