You can interrupt the procedure, or pursue a successful Arcana check for the Awakened passive, which lets its user use illithid powers as bonus actions.
Does the Zaith’isk cure Lae’zel?
No. The device is presented as a treatment, but using it does not remove the tadpole. Lae’zel points the party toward a githyanki crèche because she believes her people can cure the infection; at Crèche Y’llek, healer Ghustil Stornugoss offers the Zaith’isk procedure. What happens if Lae’zel uses it?
If Lae’zel takes the seat and you do not intervene, she automatically fails all three saving throws. She receives -2 to Intelligence, -2 to Wisdom, and -2 to Constitution, and the Zaith’isk is destroyed. Is the Awakened passive worth pursuing?
It can be valuable if you use illithid powers: Awakened changes them to bonus actions. But that benefit is not the cure Lae’zel expects, and the available outcome description does not make taking her place risk-free. Choose it for the combat utility, not as a way to remove the tadpole.

Does this choice determine Lae’zel’s later story?
The documented Zaith’isk outcome does not establish that Lae’zel must undergo the procedure for her later story to continue. Reactions elsewhere in the crèche can depend on the game state and patch. Larian’s Patch 3 notes mention fixes to Lae’zel’s Dream Visitor reaction at the crèche and to githyanki hostility after a peaceful Voss outcome; those notes are reasons not to assume every surrounding reaction is fixed across saves or versions.
