Larian says a fix is available for Baldur’s Gate 3’s Xbox disappearing-save issue. Its current advice is to install any available Xbox system update and enable Larian cross-save as a recovery safeguard. That does not establish that the original bug is still widespread—or that every missing save can be restored.
What the Xbox fix does—and what “the patch fails” claim means
Larian’s support page describes the issue as “Disappearing save files (Xbox)” and states, “A fix for this issue is now available.” It directs players to check for a console update. The official information does not establish that the disappearing-save bug remains widespread after that fix, how many players may still be affected, or whether the headline refers to a particular player’s experience. Larian’s Xbox support guidance is the clearest current status statement.
There are also two distinct save problems in Larian’s later updates. The Xbox FAQ concerns disappearing saves; a February 2026 post concerns corrupted saves that could get players stuck loading or prevent progression from Act 2 into Act 3. Those reports should not be treated as proof that the older disappearing-save problem returned.
Check for an Xbox system update
- Connect the Xbox console to the internet.
- Press the Xbox button and open Profile & Systems > Settings > System > Updates.
- Install a console update if one is offered. If Xbox says no update is available, Larian says the console is up to date.
This is Larian’s stated fix path for the disappearing-save issue. It is a console update check, not a guarantee that a save already missing from the console will return.

Enable cross-save as a recovery safeguard
Larian recommends linking your Xbox account to a Larian account and enabling cross-save in the game: Options > Gameplay > Save Options > Cross-play. If saves disappear and the game shows the EULA when restarted, Larian’s instructions are to repeat the account-linking and cross-save steps. The company says this can recover the last five saves in that scenario; it does not promise recovery of every missing save.
Cross-save is not a permanent archive
Larian cross-save syncs copies of the last ten saves and retains those copies for up to six months. They are not substitutes for the original local saves, so keep important saves locally as well. Larian’s account FAQ says inactive copies older than six months displayed on the Larian Account expire and are permanently deleted beginning September 29, 2026. What the 2026 corrupted-save updates establish
On February 16, 2026, Larian Community Manager Salo said corrupted saves that could leave players stuck loading or progressing from Act 2 into Act 3 “should now be fixed.” The post lists version 4.1.1.7143914 for Xbox and PS5. It lists a different version for PC, Mac and Steam Deck, so that Xbox/PS5 number should not be applied to those platforms. Read the February 16 forum post for the scope of that fix.
Larian’s news listing records Hotfix #36 on March 26, 2026. It addressed performance problems, including crashes, that an earlier update intended to resolve lingering corrupted saves had seemingly introduced. That later hotfix documents reported side effects of the corrupted-save update; it does not demonstrate that the Xbox disappearing-save issue is currently affecting players broadly. The official guidance centers on system software and cross-save. It does not support buying storage hardware, a replacement drive, or repair software as a way to recover these saves.
