Baldur’s Gate 3’s September 29, 2026 hotfix (version 4.1.1.7631656) targets three specific problems: a crash when launching through the GOG Mac launcher, crashes while placing map markers on PS5, and patchy beard appearance. It is not a broad bug-fix sweep, and complaints in the announcement’s forum thread show that some players wanted more.
What the September hotfix fixes
Larian called version 4.1.1.7631656 a “Small Hotfix.” The announcement says it addresses the following issues:
- GOG on Mac: a crash when starting the game through the GOG Mac launcher.
- PS5: crashes when creating map markers.
- Beards: patchy beard appearance.
Larian’s announcement describes those targeted changes as a “crash-free experience” for the GOG Mac launcher and safer map-marker creation on PS5, alongside the beard adjustment. It does not claim to resolve every crash or bug in the game. Larian’s September 29 announcement identifies the update and its scope.
Why some players wanted a larger patch
Replies in the official forum thread attached to the announcement include one commenter saying they hoped for “some larger patch” because the game felt too buggy for their taste. Another, playing on PS5 Pro, described a reproducible crash in the Face-Chargers shop basement: after opening the hatch and descending the stairs, using active search caused a crash. That commenter also reported inventory-stacking problems.

The same PS5 Pro player said the bugs did not make the game unplayable and described workarounds for some quest issues. A different commenter raised concerns about problems they associated with the February 2026 update and whether another update might cause crashes. These are individual accounts, not confirmation that the same issues affect every player or platform. The thread does not establish how widespread the complaints are, and it cannot show that most players are unhappy.
What this hotfix does not establish
The September announcement does not say that it fixes the reported inventory-stacking issue, the Face-Chargers basement crash, quest problems, mod-related issues, or other longstanding bugs. Those complaints should not be treated as fixes included in version 4.1.1.7631656 unless Larian identifies them as such.

Some commenters used broad phrasing such as “Some of the inventory stacking issues still haven’t been fixed” and asked “what the update for xbox added or fix.” Those are forum users’ descriptions and questions, not Larian’s release notes or confirmation of Xbox changes in this September update. The announcement specifically identifies GOG Mac startup, PS5 map markers, and beard appearance.
How the September update differs from Hotfix #36
Larian’s Patch 8 announcement described Patch 8 as the game’s last major update, with later releases handled as hotfixes. The support page for patches and hotfixes lists Hotfix #36 and earlier releases, as well as help for reporting bugs and troubleshooting.

In March, Larian Community Manager Salo said the earlier update “seemed to have also introduced some performance issues that triggered crashes.” That episode concerned a different update and different listed fixes; it should not be conflated with the September release. Larian’s Hotfix #36 announcement details the March changes.
