It requires users to provide the North American v1.0 game data; the project does not include the game’s assets. Although the game’s decompilation is reported complete, the port uses a different method: static recompilation, with decompilation work contributing to some enhancements.
What changed since the PC-port question first surfaced?
The tentative question in the original title has been answered: Banjo: Recompiled has been released as a native PC port. PC Gamer reported the release on January 25, 2026, for Windows, Linux, and Mac. The project documentation names Windows, Linux, and macOS and provides Linux and Steam Deck setup information. The public decompilation mirror lists Banjo-Kazooie as 100.0000% complete. That is the repository’s own stated completion figure, not an independent audit. Completion of the decompilation and release of the PC port are related developments, but one should not be mistaken for the direct cause or technical basis of the other. Decompilation repository
How does the port work, and what did decompilation contribute?
Banjo: Recompiled uses static recompilation: according to its FAQ, it translates the original platform’s compiled program for native execution on supported PC systems. The project explicitly says it is not based on source code produced by a decompilation. The decompilation project did contribute headers and some functions used in patches and enhancements, so its work still helped shape parts of the release.

What do you need to run Banjo: Recompiled?
Compatible game data
You must supply the North American v1.0 version of Banjo-Kazooie. The project does not distribute the game assets. Its prebuilt release loads assets from a supplied compatible copy, with no separate extraction or build step required for play.

Supported systems and hardware
The project lists Windows, Linux, and macOS support. Its documented graphics requirements are Direct3D 12.0 with Shader Model 6, Vulkan 1.2, or Metal Argument Buffers Tier 2. On x86-64, it requires SSE4.1; the README gives Intel Core 2 Penryn-series and AMD Bulldozer or newer as examples. These are the project’s documented requirements and may change, so check the current README before setup.
For Linux, the project documents both a binary and a Flatpak route, including setup guidance for Steam Deck. Consult its current instructions for the relevant platform rather than assuming the same installation steps apply everywhere. Current platform and setup documentation

What enhancements does the PC port offer?
The project documents several options that distinguish this release from an unmodified console experience. They are project-stated features, not independent test results.
- Adjustable framerate and widescreen or ultrawide aspect ratios.
- Configurable controls, including keyboard and mouse support and dual-analog camera control.
- Note saving, mod support, and a portable mode for keeping local files together.
Portable mode is a file-management option, not a requirement for handheld play: placing a file named portable.txt beside the executable tells the project to keep save, configuration, and mod files alongside it. For controller play, the project supports configurable mappings; a USB PC controller is optional, not required.

What problems should players check for?
The project reports rendering problems with some overlays, including MSI Afterburner and Wallpaper Engine. If graphics appear broken, close those overlays and check the project’s current troubleshooting notes before changing other settings. Project troubleshooting and updates
