Is Batman: Arkham Knight worth playing?
It is most appealing if you want a large Batman adventure built around hand-to-hand combat, stealth, gadgets, and an explorable Gotham—and you are also happy to drive and fight in the Batmobile. The car is not a minor extra: it is used for travel, traversal, puzzles, and combat. If you would rather spend the game on foot, the amount of Batmobile play may be a drawback.

Metacritic’s page displayed an overall Metascore of 87/100 from 89 critic reviews and a user score of 8.2/10 from 6,970 ratings when accessed October 8, 2026. These are changeable aggregator snapshots, not timeless measures or independent tests. Metacritic’s review page also shows a meaningful platform difference.

These platform scores are snapshots from Metacritic, not a controlled comparison of current hardware or game builds. The site and the ESRB list Nintendo Switch as a platform too, but the cited Metacritic snapshot does not give a Switch score in its platform summary. The available evidence therefore does not establish how the Switch release compares technically with the other versions. The ESRB listing includes Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.

What did reviewers like and dislike?
Gotham, combat, and stealth
Reviewers praised the detailed presentation of Gotham and the established mix of action, puzzle-solving, stealth, and adventure. TIME’s Matt Peckham highlighted the richly designed open-world city and the way the Batmobile was woven into traversal, puzzles, and combat. His review captures the enthusiasm with the brief heading “The Batmobile rules.”
The Batmobile divides opinion
The vehicle expands what the game can do, but it also features often enough to frustrate some reviewers. Metacritic review excerpts include complaints that Batmobile mechanics are overused or weak, alongside praise for their integration. This is a recurring criticism among some reviewers, not a unanimous verdict.

Story and tone
Some critics found the plot predictable or lackluster. Peckham also pointed to weak quips, while noting the volume of side activities. These are review opinions rather than objective shortcomings every player will experience; players drawn more to Gotham’s exploration and combat may weigh them differently.
What should PC players know?
The PC release had serious performance problems at launch. On June 25, 2015, The Guardian reported that Warner Bros. suspended future PC sales after widespread complaints. The publisher said it was suspending sales while working to address issues and meet its quality standards. The Guardian’s report documents that episode.

That launch history is important context, but it does not establish how the game performs today on a particular PC, operating system, or hardware configuration. No current build or machine-specific compatibility is established here. Steam’s search-result snapshot showed English user reviews as “Very Positive,” with 92% positive from 51,524 reviews at crawl time; that volatile store rating is a user-review signal, not a critic score or a technical performance test. Is Batman: Arkham Knight suitable for younger players?
The ESRB rates Batman: Arkham Knight M for Mature 17+ for Blood, Language, Suggestive Themes, and Violence. Its summary describes crime-scene investigation, melee combat, gadgets, and armed vehicle combat. Parents can consult the ESRB rating details when deciding whether the content is appropriate.

What to check before buying
- Choose the platform deliberately. The displayed critic-score snapshot is lower for PC than for PS4 or Xbox One, but those scores do not predict performance on an individual PC.
- Consider your appetite for vehicle play. The Batmobile is central to travel, puzzles, traversal, and combat; the frequency was a point of criticism for some reviewers.
- Confirm the exact edition and platform with the seller. Current prices, stock, physical formats, and edition contents are not established by the cited listings.
