If Battlefield 2042 will not connect on PS5 or keeps disconnecting, first check EA and PlayStation service status. If both are online, check your PlayStation online access and EA account, then test your home connection. The same symptom can have different causes, so work through these checks rather than changing router settings at random.
1. Check EA and PlayStation server status
Before troubleshooting your console, check EA’s live server status page for Battlefield 2042 and PlayStation. The status can change, so check it while the problem is happening. If either service is experiencing an interruption, wait for the provider to restore it; changing your home network settings will not fix an outage.
2. Confirm you can play online on PlayStation
EA’s connection troubleshooting guide recommends checking for platform issues and confirming that the PlayStation online subscription required for online play is active. If other PlayStation online features are also unavailable, investigate PlayStation access before treating this as a Battlefield-specific problem.
3. Check your EA account and the game’s support page
Visit the Battlefield 2042 support hub if the message mentions your EA account, account linking, or authentication. Follow the account-linking guidance for an account-related error instead of changing network settings. If the message gives a specific error code, include it when looking for support.

4. Restart and retest your connection
If service status and account access look normal, restart the PS5 and your networking equipment, then try connecting again. This is a basic diagnostic step, not a guaranteed fix. Retest before moving on so you can tell whether anything changed.
5. Compare Wi-Fi with a wired connection
If your PS5 is on Wi-Fi, connect it directly to your router with an Ethernet cable and see whether the connection becomes more stable. EA community manager EA_Leeuw recommended hardwiring in an EA forum response on December 19, 2021: “Our number one tip is to hardwire your console or PC to your router. Hardwiring is the best way to have the most stable connection.” Treat this as a test, not a promise: it will not resolve an EA outage, account problem, or every ISP fault.

If you need one to test, an Ethernet cable (also called a LAN cable) connects the PS5 to the router. Compare how the game behaves in your actual setup; do not assume a particular improvement in ping or performance.
6. Consider DNS only if the earlier checks do not help
EA’s connection guidance notes that an unreliable DNS service can cause internet connection problems and that changing DNS may help. This is an optional troubleshooting step, not a universal recommendation: no single DNS provider is established as best for every region or ISP.

Before changing DNS on your network or console, record the current setting. Test one documented alternative using current platform instructions, then restore the original setting if the connection does not improve. Avoid changing several network settings at once; otherwise, it is harder to identify what affected the result.

- The exact error message or code.
- When the error occurred.
- Whether the PS5 was connected by Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Whether other online games or PlayStation services worked at the same time.
Those details help distinguish a game or account issue from a broader platform or network problem. Support can advise on the next step, but a specific resolution is not guaranteed.
