Battlefield 6 has four classes: Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. Choose Assault to push objectives, Engineer to counter enemy vehicles and repair friendly ones, Support to revive and resupply your squad, or Recon to spot threats and gather intelligence. Each class also has a signature gadget, weapon type, and class-specific benefits, so the right fit depends on how you want to help your team—not just which gun you prefer.
What each Battlefield 6 class does
EA’s class descriptions define four different squad jobs: offensive infantry, vehicle combat and repair, medical support and supplies, and reconnaissance. These are intended roles, not a measured ranking of which class performs best.
Assault: lead the infantry push
Assault is built for aggressive infantry combat, holding enemies back, and responding quickly to threats. Its signature gadget, the Adrenaline Injector, temporarily increases sprint speed, reduces explosive damage, protects against debuffs, and helps you hear enemy footsteps. It does not grant extra health. Assault’s signature weapon is the assault rifle, with faster draw and sprint times and improved sprint recovery. Its Mission Focused trait helps nearby squad members interact with and capture objectives faster. Pick Assault if you want to fight near the front and help your squad take ground. EA’s class guide
Engineer: counter vehicles and repair allies
Engineers specialize in destroying enemy vehicles and repairing friendly ones; EA identifies Engineer as the only class that can repair friendly vehicles. The Repair Tool can fix allied vehicles and damage enemy assets, while the signature weapon is an SMG. Choose Engineer if you watch for tanks, helicopters, and jets, or want to keep your team’s vehicles operational. EA’s class guide

Support: revive and resupply your squad
Support provides medical help and supplies in the middle of combat. Its Supply Bag resupplies nearby infantry with gadgets and weapons and helps them regenerate health more efficiently; its signature weapon is an LMG. Support revives teammates faster than other classes and can drag a downed player to safety while reviving, though dragging slows the revive. Choose Support if you prefer to keep teammates in the fight through supplies and rescue. EA’s class guide
Recon: scout, spot, and engage at range
Recon focuses on stealth, scouting, and information gathering. Its Motion Sensor detects and displays nearby enemies, vehicles, and gadgets when they are moving. Recon’s signature weapon is the sniper rifle, which has aim stabilization while holding breath and quicker rechambering between shots. The Auto-Spot trait marks hostiles you look at while aiming down sights, revealing their positions to your team. Choose Recon if you enjoy tactical positioning, spotting threats, and long-range engagements. EA’s class guide

This is a playstyle guide drawn from EA’s role descriptions, not a class tier list. EA has not published comparative class win rates or pick rates in the cited guides, so there is no evidence here for an objectively strongest class. EA class guide · EA weapons and loadouts guide
Weapons and loadouts do not define a class by themselves
Each class has its own loadouts, class-specific gadgets, a unique grenade, and a progression choice. You retain your class’s signature gadget regardless of loadout. The signature weapon types are assault rifle for Assault, SMG for Engineer, LMG for Support, and sniper rifle for Recon. In most open-weapon modes, any class can equip any weapon type. Closed-weapon experiences restrict weapon choices around each class’s signature weapon, while also allowing Carbines, DMRs, and Shotguns. Check the mode’s rules if you are choosing a class mainly for its weapon. EA’s July 21, 2026 loadouts guide

Class progression terminology and details appear differently across EA’s materials: the Help guide calls the choices Field Specs, while the July 2026 loadout guide calls them Training Paths. EA describes two options per class; the loadout guide says one begins unlocked and another requires a class assignment. The Help guide describes Field Spec levels gained through play: Level 0 is active automatically, Levels 1 and 2 provide passive abilities, and Level 3 grants an ability that can be used once before progress returns to Level 2. Progress resets at the start of each round. Because labels and mechanics can change, use the current in-game menu and patch notes for exact unlock instructions. EA Help · EA loadouts guide

EA’s Season 5 preview and community update announce class Training Path rebalancing and changes to gadgets in REDSEC. The preview says Support’s Supply Bag and Smoke Launcher move to the REDSEC loot pool, replaced there by Supply Pouches and Deployable Cover; Recon’s Drone moves to that loot pool, with Handheld Jammer taking its place. The community update also describes REDSEC starting Engineers with Repair Tool and M136 AT, Support with Supply Pouch and Deployable Cover, and Recon with T-UGS and Mobile Jammer. These announcements distinguish REDSEC from standard multiplayer; they should not be applied to every mode or treated as live unless the Season 5 update has been released for your game. EA says its balance goals include clearer class-tool roles, improved infantry/vehicle balance, and adjustments across engagement ranges. The cited update does not provide the full weapon-by-weapon breakdown, so it does not establish the precise balance effect on each class.
