If Battlefield 6 shows “Connection Failed” on PC, first check EA’s server status and your platform’s network status. If services are online, restart the game and router, test a wired connection, check your EA account and linked platform account, then repair or update the game. Do not jump straight to Secure Boot changes or Command Prompt network resets: those are not general fixes for this message.
1. Check whether Battlefield 6 or your platform is offline
EA classifies “Connection Failed” as a connection or network error. It can appear when Battlefield 6 cannot reach EA’s servers, your internet connection is unstable, or the platform client is offline. Related EA messages include “can’t connect to EA servers,” “your EA app is offline,” “server can’t be reached or no longer exists,” and “your connection timed out.”
Before changing anything on your PC, check the EA server-status page and your platform’s network-status page. If EA or the platform is experiencing an outage, local repairs will not restore access. Wait for the service to recover and try again.
2. Restart the game and router correctly
- Close Battlefield 6 completely.
- Turn off your router.
- Unplug it and wait about one minute.
- Reconnect the router and turn it back on.
- Wait for the internet connection to return, then launch Battlefield 6 again.
This is EA’s current restart sequence for connection problems. Restarting the PC as well is reasonable if the game or launcher remains stuck, but a router restart will not help during an EA outage.

3. Use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi
Connect the PC directly to the router with Ethernet if possible. EA says wired broadband is generally more reliable than Wi-Fi. Mobile and satellite connections can be less stable than fixed broadband, so connection drops or timeouts may continue on those networks even when ordinary web browsing works.
If Ethernet is not available, move closer to the router, reduce other network traffic, and retry after other downloads or streams have stopped.
4. Check Battlefield 6’s network diagnostics
Battlefield 6 includes tools that can show whether the problem is latency or packet-loss-related:
- Pause the game.
- Open Options.
- Select System.
- Under Network, turn on Scoreboard Ping.
You can also configure the network graph:
- Go to Pause menu → Options → System → Network.
- Select Network Graph.
- Choose Modify.
- Set Show Network Performance Bar or Show Network Performance Graph to Always, Hide, or On Problems.
- Optionally set Show Damage Log and Show Event Graph to On.
These displays help identify poor network performance after you get into a match. They cannot bypass an EA-server outage or an account-authentication failure.

5. Try a different DNS server
EA documents changing DNS as a troubleshooting step when an internet provider’s DNS service is unreliable. Its Battlefield-specific guidance recommends manually setting DNS to Google Public DNS if your ISP is routing traffic through a malfunctioning DNS gateway. EA also names OpenDNS as another free option and does not operate either service.
DNS changes are made in Windows’ network-adapter settings, not inside Battlefield 6. Use the instructions for your Windows version and network adapter, record the original values first, and restart the connection afterward. If changing DNS makes no difference, restore the original setting rather than repeatedly switching providers.
6. Confirm the EA account and platform setup
Battlefield 6 requires an EA Account on PC. EA says the account stores game progress, and players who used the Battlefield 6 Beta or Battlefield 2042 Road to Battlefield 6 should use that same EA Account.
Steam
The EA app is not required for the Steam edition, although an EA Account is still required. To check the link, sign in to your EA Account, open Connected Accounts, and inspect Steam. For a first-time link, select Continue, sign in to Steam, and finish the linking process.

Epic Games Store and EA Play Pro
The EA app is required for the Epic Games Store edition and for EA Play Pro. If the EA app reports that it is offline, use the cache-recovery steps below and verify that the correct EA Account is signed in.
Account-session and restriction problems
- If the message says the account is already in use, sign out on other devices and sign back in.
- A banned or suspended account cannot play online.
- A deactivated or deleted account cannot play online.
- Child accounts can have restrictions affecting connections and online play.
These conditions can look like network failures but cannot be fixed by restarting the router.
Do not casually unlink and relink accounts. EA warns that unlinking can cause loss of purchases, progress, or game access. Once a platform is unlinked, it cannot be linked back to the same EA Account, and another account from the same platform cannot be linked to that EA Account. EA also says an old Steam account must have been linked for at least 12 months before it can be unlinked and replaced with another Steam account.
7. Clear the EA app cache when the launcher is involved
Cache clearing is useful when the EA app is stuck offline, fails to update, gets stuck downloading, or does not show a game in the Library. It will not fix an EA outage or a server shutdown.

When the EA app opens
- Open the EA app.
- Open the three-dash menu in the far-left corner.
- Select Help.
- Choose App recovery.
- Select Clear cache.
When the EA app cannot open on Windows 10 or 11
- Open Start.
- Select All Apps.
- Expand the EA folder.
- Open App Recovery.
- Confirm, then select Clear Cache.
Afterward, sign in again and retry Battlefield 6.
8. Repair the game and install pending updates
For a generic or unknown PC error, EA’s current Battlefield 6 guidance is to clear the cache or repair the game in the EA app. It also recommends checking for corrupted files and pending updates.
On Steam, use Steam’s game-file verification or repair option. On the EA app, use the game’s repair option. The exact launcher matters: Steam players do not need the EA app merely because they bought Battlefield 6 there, while Epic and EA Play Pro players do require it.

Firewall, VPN, and NAT settings can affect connections, but EA’s current guidance does not provide one universal Battlefield 6 port list. Change those settings only when the error or your network configuration calls for it.

If you reach the game but cannot join a match, the problem may be matchmaking rather than the initial EA-server connection. EA lists separate messages such as “you can’t join this match right now,” “this server is full,” “global game quota exceeded,” “you’ve already joined this match,” and “you don’t meet the requirements to join this server.”

For those cases, refresh the server list, broaden matchmaking filters, install pending updates, restart the game, and enable platform auto-update. Turn on cross-play only if the message specifically tells you to. EA also says it may help populate active servers for different modes, but it is not a universal fix for “Connection Failed.”
11. Check date and time
EA says an incorrect device date or time can sometimes cause connection problems. In Windows, enable automatic time and time-zone settings, then retry after the clock synchronizes.
12. Secure Boot and anticheat errors are a separate branch
Do not enable Secure Boot as a routine response to “Connection Failed.” EA places Secure Boot under Javelin anticheat requirements and Secure Boot errors. Follow this branch only when Battlefield 6 displays a Secure Boot or anticheat-related message.
Verify the required Windows settings
- Press Windows key + R, type
msinfo32, and press Enter. - In System Summary, verify BIOS Mode = UEFI and Secure Boot State = On.
- Press Windows key + R, type
tpm.msc, and press Enter. - Confirm that the TPM status says it is ready to use.
EA’s current requirements also include TPM 2.0 and a Windows disk using GPT rather than MBR. If the disk is MBR, EA provides these commands, but the disk number must match the one shown in Disk Management:
mbr2gpt /validate /disk:0 /allowfullOS
mbr2gpt /convert /disk:0 /allowfullOSRun them from an administrative PowerShell or Command Prompt opened with Ctrl + Shift + Enter. Disk conversion and BIOS changes can affect booting, so do not run them unless this is the actual error path.
Enable Secure Boot when required
- Search Windows for Change Advanced Startup Options.
- Beside Advanced startup, select Restart now.
- Choose Advanced options → UEFI Firmware Settings.
- In BIOS, open the Boot tab.
- Set Secure Boot state to Enabled.
- Set OS Type to Window UEFI mode where that label is shown.
- Open the Exit tab, choose Save Changes & Reset, then select Ok.
BIOS labels vary by manufacturer. For anticheat errors, EA says to run the EA app as administrator—even for games bought through Steam or Epic—and launch Battlefield 6 directly from the EA app. EA specifically identifies Interception, AutoHotkey, and reWASD as disallowed software.
