To change your Battlefield 6 controller button layout, open the cog icon, go to Settings → Controller, then choose either Edit Preset for a named layout or Edit Settings to remap individual actions. Infantry, vehicles, aircraft, gunners, transport and helicopters use separate control categories, so changing the Soldier layout alone will not change your vehicle controls.
How to switch a Battlefield 6 controller preset
- Open the main menu and select the cog icon to open Settings.
- Choose Controller.
- Select the controller category you want to change.
- Choose Edit Preset.
- Select Default, Alternate or Lefty.
These controls are available on PC when using a controller as well as on supported console versions. EA’s current menu labels use the singular wording Edit Preset and Edit Settings. Other guides may call these options “Edit Presets,” “Custom” or “Edit Keybinds,” but the exact labels can depend on the installed build.

Change every control category separately
Battlefield 6 separates controller layouts into six categories:

A preset change in one category does not automatically carry over to the others. For example, changing Soldier to Alternate will not change the buttons used when you enter a tank, aircraft or helicopter.
To keep the same control philosophy across the game, return to Settings → Controller, select each relevant category, choose Edit Preset, and apply the equivalent layout individually. This is the most common fix if infantry controls feel correct but vehicle or aircraft controls suddenly revert to the old scheme.
How to remap individual controller buttons
Use detailed remapping instead of a preset when you want to move only one or two actions—such as crouch, sprint, slide, zoom or a movement input.
- Open the cog icon and go to Settings → Controller.
- Select Edit Settings.
- Open the relevant action category, such as infantry, vehicle or UI controls.
- Choose the action you want to change.
- Assign the preferred controller input and confirm the change if prompted.

Infantry button-remapping path
For infantry controls, use:
Settings → Controller → Edit Settings → Infantry → Infantry/Passenger Control Mapping
Within that menu, Movement & Aiming includes actions such as Look Up, Look Right, Look Left and Look Down. The available action groups also distinguish individual mappings from broader control-behavior settings.
Edit Preset versus Edit Settings

If you want to swap a physical button, use the action-mapping menus inside Edit Settings. Changing aim sensitivity, an aim curve or a zoom coefficient changes how an input behaves; it does not reassign the button that activates it.

Infantry Aim Sensitivity, Zoom Sensitivity Coefficient and aim-curve options affect aiming behavior. They do not move actions from one physical button to another.

For example, increasing zoom sensitivity will not change the button used to aim down sights. To reassign that input, open the appropriate mapping category under Edit Settings and change the action itself.
Controller schemes and full remapping are different
Battlefield 6 also provides visual controller schemes showing what each button does. These diagrams are useful for checking a preset, but they are not the same as fully remapping individual actions. If the button you need is not changed by Default, Alternate or Lefty, use Edit Settings instead.
How to disable trigger effects and vibration
Trigger effects and vibration are not necessarily controlled by the in-game button-layout menu. EA directs players to change these features through their platform or Steam settings, and those changes can affect other games too.
Steam
Open Steam → Settings → Controller, then turn off Game Rumble.

PlayStation
Open Settings → Accessibility → Controllers, then adjust Trigger Effect Intensity.
Xbox
Open Settings → Devices & connections → Accessories, select the controller, choose Configure, select the edit icon, and turn off Turn on vibration.

“My new layout works as a soldier but not in vehicles”
Soldier, Vehicles, Aircraft, Gunner, Transport and Helicopters are separate categories. Apply the desired preset or custom mapping to every category where you want the same behavior.

Sensitivity and aim-curve settings do not remap buttons. Go to Edit Settings, open the relevant control-mapping category and change the action there.

“I cannot find the exact menu name from another guide”
Use the current EA labels as the reference: Edit Preset selects Default, Alternate or Lefty, while Edit Settings opens detailed settings and mappings. A guide using “Edit Keybinds,” “Edit Presets” or “Custom” may be describing the same area with different wording.
“Can I use a controller on PC?”
Yes. EA’s controller-settings documentation specifically covers controller configuration on PC, including presets and custom mappings.
“Can I turn off console aim assist in the layout menu?”
No. Aim assist is separate from button layouts. EA’s current support documentation states that console players automatically have aim assist and cannot disable it. Changing the controller preset or remapping buttons will not alter that behavior.

- Choose a preset in Soldier first.
- Test the layout in a low-pressure situation.
- Apply the equivalent preset to Vehicles, Aircraft, Gunner, Transport and Helicopters as needed.
- Use Edit Settings for any action that still needs a different button.
- Adjust sensitivity separately after the physical controls feel correct.
- Change vibration or trigger effects at the platform level if you do not want them in-game.
