EA’s launch-period clarification says turning crossplay off limits matchmaking to players on your own platform; it does not put PlayStation and Xbox players together in a shared pool that excludes PC. With crossplay enabled, console players are prioritized together when possible, but PC players may join to fill a lobby.
How Battlefield 6 crossplay matchmaking works
| Setting or mode | Reported matchmaking behavior | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Core multiplayer: crossplay enabled | Console players are prioritized together, and PC players may fill remaining lobby spaces. (Insider Gaming, September 17, 2025) | EA’s FAQ says extended wait times may override the preference to play with console players. (EA Battlefield 6 FAQ) |
| Core multiplayer: crossplay disabled | Matchmaking is limited to players on your own platform, according to EA’s launch-period clarification. (Insider Gaming, September 17, 2025) | It does not create a shared PlayStation-and-Xbox pool. |
| REDSEC Ranked | A 2026 Battlefield community update identifies console-only crossplay as a feature of this mode. (Battlefield Team update reproduced by Game Update Notifier) | This mode-specific feature does not establish that core multiplayer has the same setting. |
Why “crossplay off” is not console-only crossplay
Players often use “console-only crossplay” to mean that PlayStation and Xbox users can match with each other while PC players are excluded. The reported core-game behavior is different: switching crossplay off keeps matchmaking within the player’s own platform. In other words, it is not a way to join a combined console pool.
EA’s FAQ describes turning off PC crossplay as a way to play with console players, but it also warns that extended matchmaking waits may override that preference. Read alongside the more specific launch clarification, that FAQ wording should not be taken to mean there is a separate, guaranteed console-only setting for core multiplayer.
What the Battlefield Team has said about adding the option
In a 2026 community update, the Battlefield Team said it had discussed a “console-only” option for core multiplayer, but identified the addition of another matchmaking pool as a drawback. The response says the team tries to match console players together when possible, while allowing PC players to join to avoid long matchmaking times. The update is reproduced by Game Update Notifier, rather than hosted on an EA page.

The stated concern is qualitative: another pool could make matchmaking take longer. No numerical estimate for how much it would affect wait times is given in the available statements.
Keep REDSEC Ranked separate from core multiplayer
The 2026 update identifies console-only crossplay as a REDSEC Ranked feature. That is a mode-specific detail, not evidence that the same option exists in Battlefield 6’s core multiplayer. Check the mode and its current settings rather than assuming a feature in REDSEC Ranked carries over to other playlists.
