One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchIf the Battlefield 6 free trial is not working, check the trial window and EA Account link before reinstalling anything. EA lists the trial for PlayStation and Steam from October 15 through October 19, 2026; Steam access ends at 17:00 UTC on October 19. During that period, the trial includes all game modes, events and Battlefield Portal. A missing multiplayer download is the most specific Steam fault: opening the Battlefield 6 Store page and clicking Play Game should trigger the additional Multiplayer DLC. If Steam instead shows Game Not Released, use the documented DLC workaround below.
Start with the symptom, not a reinstall
Different Battlefield 6 messages point to different layers of the trial. An expired window or wrong account is an entitlement problem; a missing Multiplayer DLC is an installation-content problem; NAT, firewall and matchmaking messages are network problems. Use this table to choose the shortest path.

Confirm the free-trial window and platform
EA’s account-linking information places the Battlefield 6 free trial on PlayStation and Steam from October 15 to October 19, 2026. EA’s Steam announcement gives the more precise Steam cutoff: October 19, 2026 at 17:00 UTC. The PlayStation notice states that its published window ends October 19, but does not provide a time in the supplied information.

That distinction matters. If your platform’s window has ended, a launch or purchase message is expected behavior rather than evidence that your files are damaged. Do not spend time deleting the game or changing router settings after the entitlement period has closed. If the date is still within the published window, continue with the account and content checks below.

What the trial should include
EA describes the trial as full access to all game modes, events and Battlefield Portal for the active period. A screen showing only a limited mode, missing playlists or a request to buy the game while the trial is active is therefore a signal to check entitlement or downloadable content, not an intended limitation of the trial.
Verify the EA Account connection
Battlefield 6 requires an EA Account. The Steam or PlayStation account must be linked to the same EA Account that the game is using. A different console or Steam profile can make an otherwise valid trial look unavailable.
- Open your EA Account settings.
- Select Connections.
- Check the listed Steam or PlayStation account.
- Confirm it is the platform account you are using to start Battlefield 6.
If the wrong account is shown, stop troubleshooting local files until the account situation is resolved through EA’s account support. Linking checks cannot be replaced by an Ethernet cable, a firewall change or a reinstall: those actions do not grant an entitlement to a different account.
Steam: force the missing Multiplayer DLC to download
EA has specifically documented a Steam issue in which some players could not download the Multiplayer DLC needed by the trial. The current trigger is the game’s Store page, not a separate download search.
- Close Battlefield 6 completely.
- Open Steam and navigate to the Battlefield 6 Store page.
- Click Play Game.
- Allow Steam to download the additional Multiplayer DLC. Do not launch the game again while that content is still being acquired.
- When the download finishes, relaunch Battlefield 6 and check whether the multiplayer playlists are present.
EA’s Battlefield Game Info Hub described the incident this way: “We are seeing a few players unable to download the necessary Multiplayer DLC files on Steam.” The Store-page action is intended to trigger those files for the free-trial installation.
If the download appears to do nothing
Stay on Steam’s download view and check whether the content is queued, paused or waiting for another update to finish. The important sequence is a closed game, the Battlefield 6 Store page, Play Game, and a completed additional-DLC download. If multiplayer remains absent after that sequence, move to the EA Account check and the DLC-marker workaround rather than repeatedly clicking the launch button.
Steam “Game Not Released” workaround
For the exact Game Not Released message, EA’s workaround is to disable two DLC marker entries in Steam.

- In your Steam library, right-click Battlefield 6 and open Properties.
- Select the DLC section.
- Untick Battlefield Multiplayer HD Marker.
- Untick Battlefield Multiplayer Marker.
- Close the Properties window and try the game again.
These are marker packages, so the workaround is different from deleting the actual multiplayer content. Do not substitute unrelated DLC entries or remove the base installation. If the message changes to a missing-content symptom, return to the Store-page Play Game procedure so Steam can request the required files.
When Battlefield 6 says “purchase to play”
A purchase prompt during an active trial normally belongs to one of two checks: the trial period is no longer valid for that platform, or the platform account is linked to an EA Account that does not hold the expected access.
- Compare the current date and time with the published platform window. For Steam, the decisive cutoff is October 19, 2026 at 17:00 UTC.
- Open EA Account > Connections and verify the exact Steam or PlayStation account.
- Start Battlefield 6 from that same linked platform account.
- If the window is active and the connection is correct but the purchase prompt remains, use EA’s official error-message and account-linking support routes. Record the platform, account-link status and exact wording before contacting support.
A purchase prompt cannot be repaired by changing NAT type or installing a faster network connection. Those steps address communication with the service, not whether the service recognizes your trial entitlement.
When the trial shows only REDSEC or multiplayer is locked
If the game launches but displays only REDSEC, omits multiplayer playlists or marks multiplayer as locked, treat the symptom as missing trial content first on Steam. Close the game and perform the Store-page Play Game procedure in full. The additional Multiplayer DLC is what exposes the trial’s multiplayer modes.
After the download completes, relaunch and look for the normal multiplayer playlists. If the playlists still do not appear, check the EA Account connection and then inspect Steam’s DLC list for the two Multiplayer Marker entries. The marker workaround is for the Game Not Released message specifically; it is not a replacement for downloading missing content.
EA app: restart after a content or service-side fix
EA has previously reported a missing-DLC/content incident in which modes could not start. In that incident, the backend correction required players to restart the game for the change to take effect. EA_Rtas stated: “Players will need to restart the game for this to take effect.”
- Exit Battlefield 6.
- Fully quit the EA app rather than leaving it running in the background.
- Open the EA app again and launch Battlefield 6.
- Test the affected mode.
If the same missing-content message persists, use EA’s official support hub and its error-message and account-linking articles. A restart is the appropriate response to a newly deployed entitlement or content correction; repeatedly changing local network settings is not.

Connection and matchmaking errors
Use network troubleshooting only when the symptom is genuinely about connecting to a server, joining matchmaking or maintaining a session. EA’s connection guidance points to platform multiplayer connectivity, router and NAT configuration, firewall permissions, VPNs and extra network adapters.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Run the checks in this order
- Test the platform’s own multiplayer connectivity. If the platform cannot establish its multiplayer service connection, Battlefield 6 cannot compensate for that failure.
- Inspect the router’s NAT status and configuration. A restrictive NAT can prevent joining or hosting sessions even when the game launches normally.
- Confirm that Battlefield 6, the EA app or Steam, and the game’s anti-cheat component are allowed through firewall software.
- Temporarily disable unnecessary VPNs while testing. VPN routing can add another failure point and can make the result harder to interpret.
- Disable extra network adapters that are not needed for the test, such as unused virtual or secondary adapters.
- If possible, test with a direct wired connection. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable can help isolate Wi-Fi interference and packet-loss variables.
A wired connection is a diagnostic accessory, not an entitlement fix. It cannot make an expired trial active, link the wrong EA Account or download a Multiplayer DLC package that Steam has not been instructed to acquire.
Separate service symptoms from home-network symptoms
If the game cannot recognize the trial, asks you to purchase it, or lacks multiplayer immediately after installation, start with the date, account and DLC checks. If the game recognizes your access but fails while joining a session, NAT, firewall, router and adapter checks become relevant. This separation prevents a network change from masking an account or content fault.
PlayStation-specific checks
PlayStation uses the same EA Account requirement, but the Steam Store-page DLC procedure does not apply. Confirm that the PlayStation profile launching Battlefield 6 is the one listed under EA Account > Connections, and verify that the PlayStation trial window has not ended. If access is valid but a mode is unavailable, restart the game and consult EA’s official error-message and account-linking support information for the exact message.
The published PlayStation window ends October 19, 2026. Because the supplied PlayStation notice does not state an end-of-day time, do not assume that the Steam 17:00 UTC cutoff automatically applies to PlayStation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat not to do
- Do not reinstall first. Reinstallation cannot correct an expired trial or an account linked to the wrong platform profile.
- Do not treat a purchase prompt as a router problem.
- Do not use the Steam Game Not Released marker workaround as a substitute for downloading the Multiplayer DLC.
- Do not assume a Cat 6 cable will unlock multiplayer; it only helps test the network path.
- Do not keep launching the game while Steam’s additional DLC is queued or incomplete.
- Do not report a general outage when the actual message is an account-link or missing-content error; the exact wording determines the useful support path.
When to contact support
Escalate after the checks that match your symptom have been completed: the trial is still within its platform window, the correct account appears under Connections, Steam has been prompted to download the Multiplayer DLC when applicable, the marker workaround has been applied for Game Not Released, and the EA app/game has been restarted after a content fix.
Include the platform, the exact error text, whether the trial window is still active, the account-link result, and whether the Multiplayer DLC download completed. For connection failures, also note the NAT result, firewall status and whether disabling a VPN or extra adapter changed the behavior. This information lets support distinguish entitlement, installation-content and network cases without sending you through the same steps again.
Quick Recap
Quick decision checklist
- Trial date: Is the platform still inside its published October 15–19, 2026 window? Steam ends at 17:00 UTC on October 19.
- Account: Does EA Account > Connections show the Steam or PlayStation account actually launching the game?
- Steam content: Did you close the game, open its Store page, click Play Game, and wait for the additional Multiplayer DLC?
- Steam release message: For Game Not Released, are both Multiplayer Marker entries unticked under Properties > DLC?
- EA app state: After a reported content correction, did you fully restart the EA app and Battlefield 6?
- Network: Is the failure limited to connection or matchmaking, with platform connectivity, NAT, firewall, VPN and adapter checks still outstanding?
