Battlefield 6 Nerfs XP Bot Farming: What Changed in Portal

EA's bot-farming change distinguishes reduced XP for bots in certain Verified modes from human XP and Custom PvE Portal progression.

EA targeted Battlefield 6 Portal servers built mainly to farm bot kills, but it did not remove XP from every bot or every Portal experience. The key distinctions are the experience label, whether XP is earned by a human or a bot, and the progression category. The clearest dated bot rule EA published says bots in Verified Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush earn reduced XP, while human players retain 100% XP; EA separately said Custom Portal PvE bots were unaffected by that change.

Why did EA target XP-farming servers?

In its launch-week community update, EA said many community servers were being created primarily to earn XP, inflate stats, and collect accolades by defeating bots. The company said this made it harder for players to create and find experiences to play with other people, and that it was working on adjustments to reduce farm servers while preserving room for creative play and playing with friends. EA Community Manager EA_Leeuw described the capacity issue this way: “With so many servers focused on farming XP rather than active play, it’s become noticeably harder for players to create and find experiences to play with other people.” (EA Forums, community update.)

Which bots had reduced XP?

On November 12, 2025, EA said bots had returned to Verified Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush. Those experiences could support up to 12 bots, with rounds beginning after eight players joined. EA stated that bots earned reduced XP, while human players continued to receive 100% XP and could still complete challenges. The update did not publish an exact bot XP amount or multiplier, so there is no reliable number to apply to a current match.

EA also distinguished those modes from Custom Portal PvE: it said PvE bots in Custom experiences were not affected by that particular bot-XP change. That distinction means “bots earn reduced XP” is not a universal rule for every Portal experience.

What do Verified and Custom mean for progression?

EA’s October 10, 2025 Portal guide explains that Verified and Custom experiences have different progression rules. The listing’s “Modified XP” label is an important clue: Custom experiences use different rates from standard multiplayer progression, rather than simply reproducing the normal Verified rewards.

Experience type What EA documented Progression categories
Verified community experience Normal multiplayer progression categories and amounts, according to EA’s October 10, 2025 guide. Career match-completion and win XP, Hardware XP, and mission/assignment progress.
Custom experience marked “Modified XP” Different progression rates. EA described a Career XP match-completion reward as higher than a similar multiplayer completion reward, but not standard progression rates across the listed categories. Do not assume standard Career, Hardware, or mission/assignment rates; check the experience’s displayed label and current reward details.

The label does not, by itself, spell out every possible reward. EA’s guide is the source for the category distinction; the in-game listing is the practical place to confirm the specific experience you are about to join. (EA’s Portal 101 guide.)

Did the 2026 XP changes reverse the Portal bot rules?

No such reversal is established by the cited update notes. In March 2026, Update 1.2.2.0 changed the broader XP curve: EA said early ranks would progress about twice as fast and total progression would be 15% faster, and that sidearm rank XP requirements fell by an average of 60%. Those are general progression changes, not stated bot XP multipliers or an announcement that Portal farm restrictions were undone. (EA Update 1.2.2.0 notes.)

EA’s September 14, 2026 Update 1.4.3.0 notes cover Portal tooling and AI improvements, but do not explicitly say that the XP-farm rules were reversed. The official news index checked on October 8, 2026 included a later September 28 update and an October 1 Season 5 outlook; those listings do not establish that every detailed Portal progression rule remains unchanged. How to check XP rules before joining a Portal experience

  1. Open the Portal experience listing. Find the specific community experience you plan to play rather than assuming all bot-enabled modes share one progression rule.
  2. Check for “Modified XP.” EA’s Portal guide uses this label for Custom experiences with different progression rates.
  3. Read the listed experience details and reward indicators. Distinguish a Verified experience from a Custom one, and note whether you are joining one of the bot-supported Verified modes described in EA’s November 12, 2025 clarification.
  4. Use the current in-game label as the final check. Battlefield 6 is a live service, and the official update pages through September 2026 do not explicitly restate the full set of bot-farming rules.

What EA has and has not quantified

EA’s published bot clarification says “reduced XP” without giving a dependable numeric rate for bot kills. The general 2026 XP-curve and sidearm requirement figures describe separate progression changes and should not be used to calculate bot rewards. A Battlefield Team statement reproduced by Windows Central on October 25, 2025 said Custom experiences would continue earning reduced progression whether bots were active or not; that is a dated quotation, not a newly confirmed 2026 rule. (Windows Central report, October 25, 2025.)
