If Battlefield 6 is running below your target frame rate, start by setting seven options to Low: Undergrowth Quality, Effects Quality, Volumetric Quality, Lighting Quality, Local Light & Shadow Quality, Sun Shadow Quality, and Post Process Quality. Electronic Arts identifies these as the less noticeable settings to reduce first. If that is still not enough, EA’s fallback is to use the Low preset for everything.
This order protects the settings that most affect overall image structure while cutting expensive foliage, lighting, effects, shadows, volumetrics, and post-processing. There is no official per-setting FPS table, so treat the result as hardware- and resolution-dependent rather than expecting a guaranteed percentage increase.

The seven Battlefield 6 settings to lower first
Open Settings > Graphics, choose Modify next to Graphics, and change these options to Low:

|---|---|---|
| Undergrowth Quality | Reduces the complexity and density of vegetation. | Less detailed grass, plants, and ground cover. |
| Effects Quality | Reduces the cost of explosions, smoke, debris, and other effects. | Some effects appear simpler during combat. |
| Volumetric Quality | Lowers the quality of fog, atmospheric haze, and light shafts. | Less atmospheric depth in foggy or smoky scenes. |
| Lighting Quality | Uses simpler lighting calculations across the scene. | Lighting can look less rich, especially indoors and at dusk. |
| Local Light & Shadow Quality | Reduces the detail of nearby lights and their shadows. | Fewer or softer local shadow details around lamps, interiors, and effects. |
| Sun Shadow Quality | Reduces the detail of shadows cast by the sun. | Long-distance and outdoor shadows look less defined. |
| Post Process Quality | Reduces extra image-processing work after the scene is rendered. | Some finishing effects and subtle image treatment become less pronounced. |
EA calls these options less noticeable than many of the other graphics controls. The guide does not state how many frames each change saves, and the outcome varies with your processor, graphics card, resolution, memory bandwidth, and current frame-time limit.

Apply the changes in a controlled order
- Open the graphics controls. In Battlefield 6, go to Settings > Graphics, then select Modify beside the Graphics preset.
- Change the seven named options. Set Undergrowth Quality, Effects Quality, Volumetric Quality, Lighting Quality, Local Light & Shadow Quality, Sun Shadow Quality, and Post Process Quality to Low.
- Play the same type of content you normally play. Check a repeatable situation, such as a crowded objective or an effects-heavy fight, rather than judging only from an empty menu. Keep your resolution and display mode unchanged while you compare.
- Stop if the result meets your target. There is no reason to lower additional settings when frame pacing and visibility are already acceptable.
- Use the full Low preset only if necessary. EA recommends trying everything on Low when the first group does not provide enough performance. This is a larger visual compromise, so change back individual options later if you have headroom.
Changing a few controls at a time makes it clear which compromise you can tolerate. A single dramatic battle can also be unusually expensive, so compare several comparable sessions before deciding that a setting made no difference.
Settings that can make the image easier to read
Turn Screen Space Reflections off when reflections hide targets
EA reports that some players find enemies easier to spot in buildings or through water with Screen Space Reflections disabled. This is an optional visibility choice, not a published FPS measurement. Reflections can add visual information in wet areas, but turning them off may produce a cleaner, less distracting view.
Reduce motion blur and camera shake for a competitive view
For a clearer sight picture, lower World Motion Blur, lower Weapon Motion Blur, and reduce Camera Shake Amount. These controls change how movement and impacts are presented; EA’s recommendation is about clarity and comfort rather than a quantified frame-rate gain.

Disable the extra lens and film effects
Turn off Chromatic Aberration, Vignette, and Film Grain if you prefer a sharper, less stylized image. They are post-processing preferences, not settings with an official FPS delta. If you like the cinematic look, keep them and lower the seven performance-focused options first.
What to do when Low is still not fast enough
Separate a graphics-card limit from a processor limit
If lowering lighting, shadows, volumetrics, effects, vegetation, and post-processing barely changes your frame rate, the limiting component may not be those settings. A graphics card that is already rendering at its practical limit usually responds more visibly to lower resolution or an upscaling mode. A processor-limited system may show little change from visual reductions, particularly when frame rates are being measured in busy multiplayer scenes.
Use the same resolution, refresh-rate target, and gameplay situation while testing. Watch for the symptom that matters to you: a low average frame rate, uneven frame pacing, or brief drops during explosions and large fights. A setting that raises an average number but leaves disruptive stutter may not solve the real problem.

Try resolution or supported upscaling after the basic pass
Lowering output resolution or using an upscaling option can reduce the number of pixels your GPU renders. Battlefield 6 supports Intel XeSS and AMD FSR for upscaling, frame generation, anti-aliasing, and latency-reduction features. NVIDIA support announced by EA includes DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, DLSS Frame Generation, DLSS Super Resolution, DLAA, and NVIDIA Reflex.
Availability depends on your GPU, driver, game build, and selected resolution. The official feature announcement does not identify one universally best option, so compare the modes that your hardware actually exposes. Check three things in the same scene:
- Clarity: inspect distant players, foliage edges, wires, and fine geometry for shimmer or softness.
- Smoothness: look for consistent frame pacing rather than relying only on a high displayed frame rate.
- Responsiveness: make sure aiming and input feel immediate at your chosen mode.
Frame generation creates additional displayed frames; it is not the same as increasing the underlying rendered (base) FPS. A high generated-frame count does not automatically mean lower input latency or a better competitive feel. Test it as a separate choice from the base-resolution and upscaling settings.

Understand the native-rendering target
In an August 28, 2025 interview, Battlefield technical director Christian Buhl told PC Gamer, “We want Battlefield 6 to run great without [DLSS], and we want to give you the option to use it if you want.” The same coverage says default performance targets were not set with upscaling enabled. That means upscaling is an available tool, not a requirement for the game’s baseline target, and your native result remains useful when deciding whether an image-quality compromise is worthwhile.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Minimum and recommended PC requirements
EA’s published requirements provide a compatibility baseline, not a guaranteed frame rate at a particular resolution, preset, or map.
| Component | Minimum configuration | Recommended configuration |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 | Windows 11 |
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i5-8400 | AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel Core i7-10700 |
| Memory | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| Graphics card | AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT 6GB, NVIDIA RTX 2060, or Intel Arc A380 | AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti, or Intel Arc B580 |
| Video memory | 6 GB VRAM | 8 GB VRAM |
| Graphics API | DirectX 12 | DirectX 12 |
| Storage | 55 GiB HDD | 80 GiB SSD |
| Network | Not stated in the cited minimum list | Online connection |
The two tiers both specify 16 GB of system memory. The recommended tier raises the graphics target from 6 GB to 8 GB of VRAM and calls for an SSD with 80 GiB, while the minimum list specifies 55 GiB on an HDD. Meeting either list does not establish a particular FPS result; it only indicates that your hardware is within EA’s stated tier.

A practical settings profile for different priorities
| Priority | Recommended choices | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum performance | Use Low for the seven EA-listed settings, then the full Low preset if required. Consider supported upscaling. | The largest visual reduction, with the best chance of relieving a GPU-bound workload. |
| Competitive clarity | Use the seven Low settings; turn Screen Space Reflections off if reflections obscure targets; lower both motion-blur controls and camera shake; disable Chromatic Aberration, Vignette, and Film Grain. | A cleaner image and less camera movement. The clarity controls are not measured FPS improvements. |
| Balanced image quality | Start with the seven Low settings, then raise one control at a time if performance allows. Keep effects or lighting higher only after checking frame pacing. | Lets you restore the visual features you value without changing several variables at once. |
| Native rendering | Keep upscaling and frame generation off while evaluating the seven Low settings and your chosen resolution. | A direct view of your hardware’s rendered performance, without generated frames changing the displayed count. |
When a hardware upgrade is justified
Settings changes cost nothing and should be the first step. Consider a GPU upgrade only when you have tried the Low sequence, checked your resolution and upscaling choices, and still cannot reach a target that matters to you. EA’s recommended graphics tier—Radeon RX 6700 XT, GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, or Intel Arc B580 with 8 GB of VRAM—can serve as a reference point, but it is not a guarantee of a particular FPS level.
Before buying, verify current prices, availability, power-supply requirements, case clearance, driver support, and performance at your exact resolution. The published requirements do not establish which card is the best value or which upgrade suits a particular system. If your processor is below the recommended Ryzen 7 3700X or Core i7-10700 class, a graphics-card purchase may also fail to fix processor-limited dips.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
- Expecting a guaranteed percentage gain: EA does not publish per-setting FPS deltas. Measure your own frame rate and frame pacing instead of applying a universal number.
- Changing everything at once: Start with the seven named options so you know which visual compromises helped.
- Confusing clarity with performance: Reflections, blur, camera shake, chromatic aberration, vignette, and film grain can improve readability when reduced, but the cited guidance does not quantify their FPS effect.
- Using frame-generation FPS as rendered FPS: Separate base rendering from generated frames when judging responsiveness.
- Assuming requirements equal a preset guarantee: Minimum and recommended lists describe hardware tiers, not a promised frame rate at a specific resolution.
- Ignoring image quality after enabling upscaling: Inspect distant targets and fine geometry in motion. Keep the mode only if the combination of clarity, smoothness, and responsiveness works for you.
Bottom line
Set Undergrowth Quality, Effects Quality, Volumetric Quality, Lighting Quality, Local Light & Shadow Quality, Sun Shadow Quality, and Post Process Quality to Low first. If that does not meet your target, try the full Low preset, then evaluate resolution and hardware-supported upscaling. Use Screen Space Reflections, blur, camera shake, and the film-style effects as visibility preferences, not promised FPS fixes. Because EA provides no controlled per-setting gains, the right final profile is the one that reaches your target on your hardware while keeping distant enemies readable and frame pacing consistent.
