No: the reported figure of more than 500,000 players does not prove REDSEC alone reached that audience, much less that it overtook Call of Duty: Warzone. The October 28, 2025 report concerned Battlefield 6 overall after REDSEC launched, and it did not specify how the count was measured. The available later figures also do not establish a current REDSEC-versus-Warzone winner.
What did the 500,000-player report actually count?
Windows Central reported on October 28, 2025, the day REDSEC launched, that Battlefield 6 had passed 500,000 players on a Tuesday afternoon. The article describes the figure as Battlefield 6’s player count; it does not say that 500,000 people were playing REDSEC specifically, identify the measurement method, or clarify the platform coverage. Read the October 28 report.
That distinction matters: a count for the broader Battlefield 6 game is not interchangeable with a REDSEC-only count. Nor does one launch-day figure, without a stated methodology or comparable Warzone number, demonstrate which game had more players.
What is REDSEC, and can you play it without Battlefield 6?
EA describes REDSEC as Battlefield’s free-to-play Battle Royale experience. You do not need to own Battlefield 6 to play it. EA also lists Gauntlet and Portal among REDSEC’s modes and features. EA’s REDSEC page provides the product overview.

EA’s launch announcement specifies 100 players per match, arranged as either 25 squads of four or 50 duos. That is a match format, not a measure of how many people play REDSEC overall. Read EA’s launch announcement.
What do the newer player figures show?
On October 7, 2026, Steam listed Battlefield 6 at 28,920 current players and a daily peak of 34,612. These are Steam figures for Battlefield 6 as a whole—not REDSEC-only counts and not totals across all platforms. View Battlefield 6’s Steam statistics.

EA’s October 1, 2026 update discusses ongoing development for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC but does not publish a current REDSEC audience figure. It therefore offers roadmap context, not a basis for comparing player populations. Read EA’s October 2026 update.

A sound head-to-head comparison would need figures measured on the same basis. In particular, both counts would need to match on:
Rank #3
- Battlefield 6 Phantom Edition (disc) for XBOX Series X contains the full game
- Battlefield 6 Phantom Edition includes Phantom Squad, Battlefield Pro Token, Shrouded & Drop Shadow Weapon Package, Chimera Vehicle Skin, Phantom XP Boost Set and more
- Internet connection and EA Account required to play, including single-player mode; Xbox account must be linked to an EA Account
- THE NEW STANDARD OF FPS COMBAT: With overhauled gunplay and tactical movement, from crouch sprint to drag and revive, every shot and movement is more instinctual and precise
- MORE WAYS TO BATTLE: Victory, however you envision it; Seize glory in iconic, large-scale modes including Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush; Fight in iconic locations all over the world including Cairo, Brooklyn, Gibraltar and more
- Game scope: REDSEC alone versus Warzone, rather than REDSEC versus all of Battlefield 6.
- Metric: current concurrent players, peak concurrent players, or daily active players.
- Platform coverage: Steam-only figures should not be compared with all-platform totals.
- Timing: the same date and measurement interval, rather than a launch-day spike against a later snapshot.
The available figures do not provide that like-for-like comparison. They show that Battlefield 6 drew a substantial reported audience around REDSEC’s launch and give a later Steam snapshot for Battlefield 6 overall, but they do not establish whether REDSEC has overtaken Warzone.
