Battlefield 6 Rush Beta Draws Complaints About Small Maps and 12v12 Teams

Rush drew complaints during Battlefield 6’s 2025 open beta, where players said 12v12 teams, close M-COMs and limited routes made the maps feel cramped. EA said a lower default count could better preserve the mode’s tactical flow.

Battlefield 6’s Rush mode drew complaints during the game’s 2025 open beta, with players describing the maps as too small for 12v12 matches. Their objections focused on crowded fights, close M-COM objectives and too few ways to flank—not a measured verdict from the entire player base. EA said it lowered Rush’s default player count because too many defenders could undermine the mode’s tactical objectives.

What players objected to in the beta

Rush arrived during Battlefield 6’s second open-beta weekend. Contemporary coverage of player discussion described frustration with the 12v12 setup and the constrained portions of maps used for the mode. Complaints included limited flanking routes, objectives that felt too close together, and matches that could turn into concentrated close-quarters fighting.

Some players characterized the experience as a “shotgun fest” or said there were “no vehicles.” Those are descriptions from beta discussion, not neutral measurements of map size or a complete account of Rush’s rules. The underlying concern was that the playable space and team size pushed fights toward repeated, direct clashes rather than giving attackers room to maneuver.

Why 12v12 and map space mattered together

Player count alone does not determine whether a map feels cramped: it matters how many players are contesting each area, how far apart the objectives are, and whether routes let attackers approach from more than one direction. In the beta complaints, those factors were linked. With 12 players on each side, close M-COMs and limited room to move could make defenders feel concentrated around the attack, while attackers had fewer options to break through.

The criticism therefore touched a question of mode identity. A compressed fight can deliver immediate close-quarters pressure, but Rush’s M-COM objectives also depend on attackers finding opportunities to arm them and defenders responding. Players who found the beta setup too crowded felt the tactical objective play was being squeezed by the layout and density.

EA’s explanation for lowering the default player count

EA framed its decision around Rush’s objectives, rather than treating a larger team as automatically better. In its open-beta debrief, the company said: “Rush is especially sensitive to higher player counts due to its tactical and strategic requirements; when a player tries to arm the M-COM while more than 20 opponents are defending, the intended gameplay becomes less tangible.” EA said it was lowering the default Rush player count to improve combat flow and restore a more tactical, methodical experience.

That explanation addresses the same tension players were describing from the opposite direction. EA’s stated concern was that a large number of defenders could make an individual attempt to arm an M-COM feel less consequential; the player complaints focused on how dense, close-range encounters and limited routes made the matches feel cramped. The beta discussion does not establish which configuration ultimately produced the better experience for most players.

Did Battlefield 6 fans broadly hate Rush?

The available reports capture visible posts and comments, not a representative survey of Battlefield 6 players. They support saying that Rush drew criticism over its beta setup; they do not establish that most players disliked the mode. “Fans hate” is a punchy search phrase, but it overstates what can be concluded about the wider player base.

What is known about Rush now

The complaints describe the 2025 open beta, not necessarily the live game’s current settings. EA’s Game Update 1.4.3.0, dated September 14, 2026, confirms that Battlefield 6 continued to receive updates. The update text available here does not establish Rush’s current playlist availability, rotation, player count or map-specific rules, so the beta configuration should not be presented as the mode’s October 2026 state.
