Battlefield 6 Season 2 brought its major additions in three phases, not all at once. Extreme Measures introduced the large-scale Contaminated map and VL-7 psychoactive smoke modes; Nightfall added the underground Hagental Base, darkness mechanics and two dirt bikes. EA’s season overview also lists a later Hunter/Prey phase.
When did Battlefield 6 Season 2 start?
EA announced Season 2’s Extreme Measures content for February 17, 2026. Nightfall followed on March 17, 2026. The season is divided into Extreme Measures, Nightfall and Hunter/Prey, so its maps, vehicles and modes arrived across multiple phases rather than in one launch. EA’s Season 2 overview summarizes the full season as adding two maps, three vehicles and six weapons, alongside limited-time modes.
What came with Extreme Measures?
Contaminated: a large-scale mountainside map
EA describes Contaminated as a large-scale European battlefield set around a strategic German airbase in the mountains. Its update notes say it supports all combat sizes and includes land vehicles and helicopters. The listed modes are Conquest, Breakthrough, Escalation, Squad Death Match and Strikepoint.
That description establishes Contaminated as a large-scale map, but does not establish that it is a returning map. EA’s notes do not provide map dimensions or comparative performance data.

VL-7: smoke that disorients without protection
Extreme Measures introduced limited-time experiences built around VL-7 psychoactive smoke. In VL-7 Strike, smoke spreads across selected areas in multiplayer and REDSEC. Players use masks and manage filters; if a filter runs out, exposure can cause disorienting effects. EA also names Battle Royale – Synthesis and Gauntlet: Altered State among the related experiences. These are in-game mechanics, not evidence of a separate real-world gas or equipment addition. Details appear in the Game Update 1.2.1.0 notes.
What did Nightfall add?
Hagental Base shifts combat underground
Nightfall introduced Hagental Base, an underground map built around infantry squad tactics and close-quarters fighting. EA says players can blast through walls or collapse ceilings to create flanking routes. The phase also brought darkness mechanics to multiplayer and REDSEC. Nightfall playlists use darkness modifiers and night-vision goggles, making visibility and movement central to the experience.

Two dirt bikes for fast repositioning
The M1030-M1 and TM/O 450 are two-seat light transport vehicles, with faction-specific variants for NATO and Pax forces. EA describes them as fast, manoeuvrable options for repositioning, flanking or escaping. They are distinct from the separate Red Bull Supermoto limited-time event announced for later in the season: EA described that event as an eight-player competition across three knockout rounds. Nightfall details are in the Game Update 1.2.2.0 notes.

EA’s update notes support these differences in scale, setting and combat style, but do not publish map measurements or a direct comparison of player performance.

What is in the Hunter/Prey phase?
EA’s season overview describes Hunter/Prey as including a bonus Battle Pass path and Operation Augur. The operation spans both Contaminated and Hagental Base: VL-7 smoke can be used against defenders on Contaminated, while Hagental Base emphasizes close-quarters fighting. This content belongs to the later season phase, rather than the February Extreme Measures or March Nightfall rollout.
