Battlefield 6 Season 2 was delayed from the end of Season 1’s January schedule to February 17, 2026. EA said on January 13 that it was extending Season 1 to give the team more time to polish and refine Season 2 after reviewing community feedback. The season ultimately went live at 12:00 UTC on February 17; its update became available to download at 09:00 UTC.
When was Battlefield 6 Season 2 delayed, and when did it launch?
EA announced the schedule change on January 13, 2026, in its Season 1 January Update. Season 1 had been due to end on January 20; EA said it would continue beyond that date and set February 17 as Season 2’s launch.
EA’s February 13 Game Update 1.2.1.0 notes clarified the launch-day timing: the update download opened at 09:00 UTC on February 17, while Season 2 content went live at 12:00 UTC. The season launched as scheduled.
What reason did EA give for the delay?
EA’s stated reason was to allow extra development time after reviewing community feedback. In the January 13 announcement, the Battlefield Team wrote: “During our ongoing development, we’ve continued to review community feedback and, in order to keep our promise, determined that our best path forward is to extend Season 1 and give ourselves extra time to further polish and refine Season 2.”

The announcement did not name a particular complaint as the decisive cause. EA’s February Season 2 preview discussed planned changes and areas still being worked on, but did not say that any one item triggered the January decision. It is therefore not established that map size, weapon balance, bugs, content volume, or another specific issue caused the delay.
What happened to Season 1 during the extension?
The January 20 update kept the Season 1 Battle Pass active and added weekly challenges and a Bonus Path. EA also announced a Portal community showcase, free daily login rewards, Double XP periods, and a Valentine’s Day event. The Frostfire Bonus Path opened January 27: some rewards were free, while additional rewards required the Season 1 Battle Pass.

Season 2 launched with a new map, limited-time modes, the AH-6 Little Bird, weapons, gadgets, and Battle Pass and progression content, according to EA’s launch update notes. EA said the update delivered over 240 gameplay improvements and quality-of-life fixes.
Before launch, EA’s February 10 preview also described work planned for challenge criteria and Battle Pass progression, recoil and movement, and audio. It separately identified hit registration and netcode, visibility, map pinging, recoil, and footsteps/audio as ongoing work; EA said some changes would go through Battlefield Labs and appear in future updates after validation. These were areas of development, not all confirmed as changes included in the February 17 update.

What remains unconfirmed about the decision?
EA gave a broad explanation—extra time to refine Season 2 after reviewing feedback—but did not connect the delay to a named complaint. PC Gamer characterized the explanation as vague and discussed expectations around map size as editorial context; that reporting does not establish EA’s internal reason. EA’s announcement also referred to the prior launch as drawing “millions of players” without giving an exact player count, so that phrase should not be treated as a precise statistic.
