To spot an enemy in Battlefield 6, aim at a visible target and press your bound spot or ping button. A secondary guide lists the default quick-spot inputs as Q on PC, LB on Xbox, and L1 on PlayStation; check your in-game bindings because controls can be changed. As Recon, aiming down sights at a hostile triggers Auto-Spot, marking them for your team.
How to manually spot an enemy
Point your aim at a visible enemy and use the spot or ping input currently assigned in your controls. All Things How lists these quick-spot defaults: Q on PC, LB on Xbox, and L1 on PlayStation. These are secondary-source defaults, not inputs confirmed in EA’s class guide, and your bindings may differ. Check the controls menu in-game if the input does not work.
Manual spotting is a deliberate mark on an individual target. Use it to call out a threat you can see, then update the mark or communicate if the enemy moves. EA has documented work to improve ping reliability, including long-range spotting of vehicles and drones, so exact behavior may depend on the current game update.
What Recon Auto-Spot does
Recon’s Auto-Spot trait marks hostiles you view while aiming down sights. EA says a spotted enemy receives an orange icon above them and their position is revealed to the rest of your team. This is different from pressing the manual ping input: ADS-triggered spotting is a Recon trait, while a manual ping is an intentional player action.

EA’s Recon guide says passive detection timing depends on movement and zoom. For longer-range passive spotting, it advises aiming at enemies and remaining relatively still or moving slowly while using higher zoom. Treat this as a situational aid, not a guarantee that every enemy in view will be revealed.
Recon tools for finding enemies
Motion Sensor
The Motion Sensor is Recon’s signature gadget. EA says it displays nearby enemies, vehicles, and gadgets when they are moving. Its description does not establish that it detects stationary contacts, so pair it with visual scanning and team communication rather than relying on it as a complete picture of an area.

EA describes the Proximity Detector as a throwable tool that reveals enemies around a target or in small rooms. Use it to add information when approaching a confined space or checking a nearby area; the official guide does not establish a universal detection radius or duration.
UAV Overwatch
UAV Overwatch scans around a designated target and reveals enemy locations on the minimap to the squad, according to EA’s Recon guide. It offers broader, temporary team awareness than marking one visible enemy, but the reviewed official guidance does not specify an exact coverage radius or duration.

Why a spot may not work as expected
- The input is different: check your current bindings rather than assuming the listed defaults apply to your setup.
- You are relying on the wrong method: Recon Auto-Spot is tied to aiming down sights at hostiles; it is not the same as a manual ping.
- A sensor may have conditions: EA explicitly describes the Motion Sensor as detecting contacts when they are moving.
- Behavior can change with updates: EA has addressed spotting and ping reliability, including long-range vehicle and drone marks. Check the current game behavior if a control or detection result differs from these descriptions.
