New to Battlefield 6? Start with the campaign if you want a guided introduction, then build multiplayer habits around your squad, the objective, cover, and the weapon’s effective range. The game’s four classes each have a distinct team role, but no single class or control setting is right for everyone.
This guide uses EA’s published beginner and campaign guidance. EA’s home page listed Game Update 1.4.3.5, dated September 28, 2026, as the latest update at the time checked; that version reference does not confirm current weapon balance or playlist availability. Check the in-game mode selector and current official updates for live details.
What should you do first in Battlefield 6?
If you want a solo introduction, play the campaign first: EA recommends it for new players and says it introduces classes, character archetypes, gadgets, and abilities. If you would rather jump straight into multiplayer, begin with a default loadout and focus on helping your squad and playing the mode’s objective rather than trying to master every weapon and gadget at once. Default loadouts are available immediately, according to EA’s October 10, 2025 beginner guide.
EA describes multiplayer as having four classes, over 40 weapons, and many gadgets in that October 2025 guide. Those are guide-era counts, not a confirmed inventory count for October 2026.

10 multiplayer tips for your first matches
1. Stay close enough to help your squad
Squadmates can contribute kills, healing, ammunition, and revives. Staying with them gives you more chances to support and be supported. EA’s guide sums up its team-first approach this way: “The best players are team players, and when there are many paths to victory, even the smallest contributions can turn the tide of battle for the squad.”
2. Play the objective, not just the kill feed
In objective modes, capturing or defending objectives contributes more directly to victory than chasing eliminations. Team Deathmatch and Squad Deathmatch are exceptions: eliminations are their stated objective. Before moving across the map, ask whether your route helps your team contest or protect a point.
3. Improve your position before taking a fight
Check corners and look for ways to flank instead of charging into the first enemy you see. A player with a clear angle and useful cover has an advantage over someone caught in the open. If a fight is going badly, break line of sight and reposition rather than repeatedly re-entering the same exposed angle.
4. Cross open ground only with a plan
Use the minimap, watch distant sightlines, and move between cover. Match your weapon to the distance: EA gives shotguns in buildings and sniper rifles on long sightlines as examples. If the route is exposed, wait for a safer moment or choose another path instead of assuming you can outrun incoming fire.

5. Do not assume cover will last
Vehicles, explosives, and gunfire can damage walls, buildings, and some cover. A structure that protected you earlier may not remain safe as the fight develops. Keep track of nearby exits and be ready to move if your position is being destroyed.

6. Respect vehicles when you are on foot
In large, vehicle-enabled modes, avoid challenging an enemy vehicle in the open if you lack a way to damage it. Use cover and plan a route around its line of sight. If you cannot counter it directly, surviving and moving toward safer ground is often more useful than standing still and firing ineffectively.
7. Use a vehicle-focused class and attack from a better angle
EA points to Engineer and Recon gadgets for damaging vehicles. When hunting a ground vehicle, approach from a weaker side—such as the side, rear, top, or bottom—rather than attacking its strongest facing head-on. If you are supporting friendly vehicles instead, an Engineer can repair them.
8. Learn ground vehicles before trying aircraft
If vehicle controls are new, EA recommends starting with ground vehicles. Try driving or taking a gunner seat to learn how vehicles fit into a match before moving to aerial vehicles. Treat this as a learning path, not a promise that vehicles are easy or always the best choice.

EA contrasts vehicle-heavy Conquest or Escalation with infantry-focused Team Deathmatch as different ways to experience multiplayer. A mode that suits your preferred pace may make it easier to learn positioning and combat. These are examples from EA’s beginner guidance, not a guarantee that each playlist is currently available; check the in-game selector for live queues.
10. Personalize your controls and sensitivity
Adjust sensitivity, aim assist, keybinds, or button mappings to suit your input and comfort. EA recommends trying settings in the Firing Range before a match. There is no universal best sensitivity: choose a setup that lets you track targets and make turns without fighting your controls.

Which class should a beginner start with?
Choose based on what you want to contribute. Assault helps a push, Engineer supports or attacks vehicles, Support sustains and revives teammates, and Recon gathers information as well as engaging at range.
Assault: help the squad push deliberately
Use Assault’s tactical tools and squad beacon to support a push or reinforce a useful position. The class is not a reason to sprint recklessly into enemy fire; look for a route and a moment when teammates can follow.
Engineer: repair allies or pressure enemy vehicles
Engineer can repair allied vehicles and use launchers against enemy vehicles. Stay near friendly vehicles when your job is to keep them operating. When attacking, seek a flank rather than approaching head-on.
Support: keep teammates in the fight
Every class can revive squadmates, while Support can revive any ally and carries a Defibrillator for an instant revive. Revive when the area is reasonably safe. EA also says a standing or crouched player can drag a downed ally to a safer position while reviving.
Recon: share information, not just long-range shots
Spotting helps your squad understand where opponents are. Recon can focus on precision or infiltration, so the role is useful as information support as well as long-range shooting.

Should you play the campaign before multiplayer?
It is a useful option, not a requirement. EA recommends the campaign for solo players and for people interested in the story, and says it introduces classes, character archetypes, gadgets, and abilities before Multiplayer or Portal. Choose the difficulty according to how much forgiveness you want while learning.
How campaign difficulty changes the experience
EA describes four settings. Recruit is the most forgiving; Normal aims for a balanced experience; Veteran is aimed at experienced players; Hardcore is the maximum challenge. The differences EA specifies are summarized below.
| Difficulty | Health and revives | Enemy behavior compared with the lower setting EA identifies |
|---|---|---|
| Recruit | Faster health regeneration; up to three defibrillation charges | Enemies deal less damage, take more damage, and are slightly less accurate than on Normal. |
| Normal | Up to two defibrillation charges | EA describes it as a balanced experience. |
| Veteran | Slower health regeneration; one defibrillation charge | Enemies deal more damage, take less damage, and are slightly more accurate than on Normal. |
| Hardcore | No revives; health regenerates more slowly than on Veteran | Enemies deal significantly more damage than on Veteran. |
These descriptions are from EA’s campaign guidance; they explain the difficulty trade-offs rather than guarantee a particular playthrough outcome.
What campaign play can unlock
Campaign missions, tasks, and collectibles can unlock platform achievements or trophies and multiplayer rewards such as character skins, XP Boosters, and a Weapon Package. EA notes that most rewards are cosmetic. Completing every campaign mission on Hardcore unlocks the “Elegant Ballistics” Weapon Package for the B36A3 Assault Rifle.

What to know about modes and current playlists
EA’s FAQ lists Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush as All-Out Warfare modes, alongside five additional multiplayer modes at launch, a single-player campaign, and Portal. Its beginner guide describes Breakthrough as an attacker-and-defender sector mode: attackers capture all objectives in a sector to advance, while defenders try to exhaust the attackers’ limited lives. More teammates on an objective speed capture progress, but the zone is contested when both teams are present.
These are launch descriptions, not confirmation of the current live playlist lineup. The same beginner guide describes Initiation as available up to Rank 10, with Breakthrough as its sole launch playlist and teams partly filled with bots. Do not assume those launch-era details remain current; check the in-game selector or an official update before planning around a specific queue.
Where to check current game details
EA’s home page listed Game Update 1.4.3.5, dated September 28, 2026, as the latest update at the time checked. That establishes a version reference, not the current balance of individual weapons or the availability of every mode. For information that can change, use EA’s Battlefield 6 home page and the in-game selector rather than relying on older launch guidance.
