To use an underbarrel grenade launcher in Battlefield 6, equip a compatible underbarrel mount on your weapon and add the launcher gadget to your loadout, then switch to it using the gadget control mapped in your settings. Community players report this setup, but EA’s official loadout guide does not confirm the exact launcher prerequisites or a universal switch button. Use the Firing Range to test your configuration before a match.
How to equip and switch to the underbarrel launcher
- Open Play and configure your loadout. EA’s loadout guide explains that loadouts are configured from the Play menu and weapons accept attachments.
- Equip the underbarrel mount. Community instructions say the weapon needs an underbarrel mount for the launcher.
- Add the launcher gadget. Those same community instructions say to equip a launcher gadget in the loadout as well as the mount. This setup information is community-reported rather than confirmed in EA’s loadout guide.
- Use the mapped gadget control to switch. A secondary community guide gives 4 or D-pad right as examples, but these are not universal defaults. Check your own control mapping for your platform and settings.
- Test the weapon in the Firing Range. EA’s loadout guide says primary and secondary weapons can be tested there. Confirm that the launcher appears and responds to your mapped control before relying on it in a match.
Why the launcher may not appear or fire
Check the setup in this order rather than assuming the weapon is bugged:
- Attachment: Confirm that the selected weapon has the underbarrel mount equipped, not a different attachment.
- Loadout gadget: Confirm that the launcher gadget is equipped. Community instructions report that both it and the mount are required.
- Control mapping: Look up the gadget or weapon-switch binding in your own settings. Button examples from another player or platform may not match your configuration.
- Test environment: Try the setup in the Firing Range, where available. If it works there but not in a particular match, note the weapon, attachment, loadout, and circumstances before concluding the issue is general.
EA has documented fixes for specific underbarrel-launcher issues, but a patch note establishes only that the named issue was addressed in that update; it does not confirm that every symptom has been resolved.
What EA has documented and fixed
| Update | Documented change | What it means for players |
|---|---|---|
| 1.2.3.0, April 2026 | EA corrected challenge tracking so damage from underbarrel grenade launchers on Assault Rifles counts toward a grenade-launcher-or-grenade damage challenge, and kills with those launchers count toward intended weekly challenge progression. EA update notes | This was a historical tracking correction, not evidence that challenge tracking is currently failing. |
| 1.3.2.0, June 2026 | EA said Logistics Expert in Support’s Support Fire Training Path now applies to Grenade Launchers, and Kord 6P67 underbarrel attachments are properly centered. EA update notes | The notes describe a Support progression interaction and an attachment-model correction. |
| 1.4.1.5, August 2026 | EA stated: “The 1P86 Variable Scope can no longer be used while operating an underbarrel launcher.” It also said underbarrel attachment models on the M123K now update correctly when changing the equipped attachment. EA update notes | The scope restriction and M123K model update are specific documented changes, not a general launcher compatibility list. |
| 1.4.3.0, September 2026 | EA described an overhaul of reticles across weapons, launchers, and gadgets to improve readability. The update was scheduled alongside Season 4: Tidal Strike, beginning September 15. EA update notes | This was a broad reticle readability change rather than a stated fix for a particular firing or tracking problem. |
Underbarrel launcher versus Support smoke launcher
“Grenade launcher” can refer to different equipment in Battlefield 6. An underbarrel launcher is an attachment-based weapon option; Support’s Smoke Grenade Launcher is a class gadget with a screening role. EA says Support smoke can obscure enemy vision, prevent lock-on capabilities of launchers and other munitions, block spotting, and remove spotted markers from infantry inside the smoke. EA’s reviewed material does not provide a complete current launcher manual. Exact default controls by platform, ammunition counts, damage and range comparisons, and a weapon-by-weapon compatibility chart are not established by the official sources cited here. Community setup guidance can help identify what to check, but verify the actual options and controls available in your own loadout and settings.
