Start with the exact error message, then try the low-risk checks before changing UEFI firmware or reinstalling large game files.
First, note when Battlefield 6 stops launching
Write down the exact error text or code and when it appears: before an EA or Javelin prompt, at a black or splash screen, or after the game opens. The right fix depends on whether the message identifies Secure Boot, EA Javelin anti-cheat, DirectX or a missing content file. Steam’s “Games do not run after ‘Preparing to Launch’” page is general guidance, not a Battlefield-specific diagnosis.
Try these low-risk Steam and PC checks
When no specific error points to a cause, rule out common problems before changing firmware settings.
- Restart the PC. Use a full restart, then try launching Battlefield 6 again.
- Update Windows and your drivers. Check Windows Update and install current graphics and system drivers from the relevant manufacturer.
- Verify the game files. In Steam, open your Library, right-click Battlefield 6, choose Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files. Steam says verification can take several minutes; avoid running it while other system-intensive work is underway.
- Close nonessential background software. Retest with overlays, utilities, and other apps you do not need closed. If the error names a particular program, follow the error-specific steps below.
- Check the PC against the game’s requirements. Steam’s Battlefield 6 listing, observed October 4, 2026, specifies these PC requirements:

These are the values on Steam’s listing on October 4, 2026; check the Battlefield 6 Steam listing for any later changes. Steam presents its general launch checks as common troubleshooting, not a guaranteed fix.

If the message mentions Secure Boot or TPM
Secure Boot is a Battlefield 6 PC requirement. EA states, “Secure Boot is a requirement to play Battlefield 6 on PC.” Steam’s listing also calls for TPM 2.0 enabled, UEFI Secure Boot enabled, HVCI capable, and VBS capable. Seeing Secure Boot marked enabled in firmware alone does not confirm that every listed requirement is met.
Before changing firmware, check the reported state in the Steam client: Help > System Information. Steam says Secure Boot and TPM are controlled by UEFI BIOS. If a requirement is not met and you are unsure how to address it, use EA’s Secure Boot guidance and consult your PC or motherboard maker. Steam recommends contacting the manufacturer or a professional if you are uncomfortable with advanced changes. Do not switch boot modes, change partition layouts, or reset Secure Boot keys as generic trial-and-error fixes.

If EA Javelin or anti-cheat is the error
EA says Javelin may fail to start the game or locate its installation folder. These steps apply even if you bought Battlefield 6 on Steam:
- Exit the EA app, then reopen it using Run as administrator.
- Try starting Battlefield 6 directly from the EA app.
- If the Javelin error remains, follow EA’s instructions to reinstall Javelin.

If the warning names software that cannot run with the game
EA says this warning means the game detected disallowed software; examples it names include Interception, AutoHotkey, and reWASD. Close the named program or restart as EA instructs. Do not try to bypass anti-cheat detection: EA warns that some unapproved compatibility modes could lead to account sanctions.
If the error mentions DirectX, DXGI_ERROR, or DEVICE_HUNG
EA says DirectX errors can involve driver issues. Check that your PC meets the minimum requirements and update your graphics driver. For DXGI_ERROR_ or DEVICE_HUNG, EA recommends a full system restart because a background app may be stuck. If the message identifies an AMD driver error, install current AMD drivers and remove old drivers as EA directs in its DirectX error troubleshooting.

If Battlefield 6 says content is missing
For a named missing content item, use the EA app to toggle that component off and back on so it is reinstalled. Close the game first.
- In the EA app, open Settings > System.
- Under Setup, choose Edit beside Install/Uninstall.
- Toggle the named content component to reinstall it.
- Restart the EA app. If the issue persists, clear the EA app cache.

If it still will not launch
If the error remains generic after these checks, Steam recommends consulting the game’s developer when its self-help steps do not resolve the failure. EA directs players with unresolved Battlefield 6 errors to Contact Us. Include the exact error text, Windows version, CPU and GPU, driver version, and Secure Boot and TPM state if support asks for diagnostics; share those details through official support channels.
