Recommended Free Tools
Battlefield 6’s free-to-play battle royale is called REDSEC. It launched on October 28, 2025, alongside Battlefield 6 Season 1, so the original “out tomorrow” wording is no longer current. EA’s live page continues to present REDSEC as free to play.
What REDSEC is and where to play
REDSEC is Battlefield’s free-to-play experience, built around battle royale, the squad elimination mode Gauntlet, and Portal creation tools. EA lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. On PC, the listed storefronts are Steam, the EA app, and Epic Games Store. EA’s REDSEC home page links to downloads for Windows, PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Epic Games Store; availability and download details can vary by platform.
To play, EA says a persistent internet connection and EA account are required. A platform account and platform subscription may also be required, and are sold separately. Check the relevant platform’s current requirements before installing.
What was included at launch
EA’s October 28, 2025 launch announcement described three main ways to play in the Fort Lyndon sandbox. These are launch details, not a guarantee that every mode or feature remains unchanged in the live game.

Battle Royale on Fort Lyndon
The launch Battle Royale was designed for 100 players on Fort Lyndon, a destructible California setting that EA described as spanning backyards and beaches. Players searched for loot and fought opposing squads, with Tactical Destruction presented as a strategic part of combat.
Gauntlet squad elimination
At launch, Gauntlet put eight teams of four players into successive mission rounds. Each round had a five-minute window, and teams were eliminated as the competition progressed.

Portal creation tools
Portal let players create or discover custom experiences using the Fort Lyndon sandbox. Its purpose was to make the setting available for player-made modes as well as the standard launch playlists.
What “free to play” covers
Free to play refers to access to REDSEC; it does not mean that every Battlefield product or optional in-game item is free. In its launch announcement, EA described a 100-tier Battle Pass, a premium BF Pro tier, and premium store content, while saying gameplay-impacting features would be free or earnable. Those were Season 1 launch statements, not a current price list or a description of today’s progression structure.

REDSEC has received updates since its October 2025 launch. When EA’s page was checked on October 8, 2026, it continued to advertise free play and the Battle Royale, Gauntlet, and Portal feature areas. It also showed Season 4 items and Season 5 news, including a look-ahead article dated October 1, 2026. Seasons, events, playlists, and access terms can change, so use the official REDSEC page for current information rather than assuming launch details still describe the live rotation.
