Battlefield Portal is a mode inside Battlefield 2042 where players can find community-made matches or build custom experiences from Battlefield 2042 and selected classic-era content. You can start with familiar modes and adjust match settings, or use a visual Logic Editor to create more distinctive rules and victory conditions.
This guide covers Battlefield 2042’s Portal, not the separate Portal feature in Battlefield 6. “March 2024” is a historical reference point: EA’s March 28, 2024 post concerned a small hotfix, not a new or complete description of Portal.

What is Battlefield Portal?
EA introduced Portal as a community-driven part of Battlefield 2042, not as a standalone game. It was designed to let players discover experiences made by others and create custom matches of their own. In EA’s launch-era overview, Portal brought together content from Battlefield 2042, Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3. EA’s Portal overview describes the concept and its intended mix of eras.
That mix is more than a set of themed maps: depending on the selected experience and template, creators could combine maps, weapons, vehicles, gadgets, factions and classes from different Battlefield eras. EA’s launch briefing described a roster of 40+ weapons, 40+ vehicles and 30+ gadgets across three theaters of war; those are EA’s launch-era counts, not a statement about current live availability.

What can you play or create?
Start from a familiar mode
EA’s launch-era Builder documentation listed Conquest Large, Conquest, Rush, Free-For-All and Team Deathmatch as starting templates. The available map rotation depended on the selected template: EA’s guide said Conquest and Rush could include classic maps, while selected Free-For-All and Team Deathmatch templates offered smaller map variants. EA’s Portal Builder guide details those templates and their configuration options.
Custom Conquest was added to the Portal Builder later. EA’s Update 2.0 notes say it brought customizable capture points and additional Rules Editor logic options. EA’s Update 2.0 notes document that change. The launch list and later addition are historical records; they do not guarantee every template or playlist is currently available in every context.
Adjust the match with settings and modifiers
The Builder guide describes ordinary configuration choices such as team size, team ratios, weapon loadouts and restrictions, bot use, bullet velocity and health regeneration. These controls let a creator change the feel and balance of a match without writing bespoke rules. Map scale, team balance, bot use and restrictions can all shape the kind of experience a match offers, subject to what the chosen template allows.

Build more specific rules with the Logic Editor
For behavior beyond the available switches and sliders, Portal included a visual Logic Editor. EA described it as a tool for setting rules, victory conditions and consequences linked to in-game events. For example, a creator could tie a reward or penalty to a kill. EA presented the editor as usable by anyone, while noting it was aimed at people with some familiarity with visual scripting.
The practical distinction is straightforward: use a template and its settings for a quick variation on an established mode; use the Logic Editor when the defining idea depends on custom event-based rules or a different path to victory.
How does Portal use classic Battlefield content?
EA’s launch materials named six classic maps: Battle of the Bulge and El Alamein from Battlefield 1942; Arica Harbor and Valparaiso from Bad Company 2; and Caspian Border and Noshahr Canals from Battlefield 3. The same materials highlighted equipment such as the M1 Garand, M416, Spitfire and B17 Bomber. These examples illustrate Portal’s cross-era approach; they should not be read as a guarantee that a given item or map is currently in rotation.
Rank #3
- The next generation of all-out war is here.
- Experience ever-changing battle conditions and gameplay challenges.
- Unleash your combat creativity with weapons, vehicles and equipment inspired by the near-future of 2042.
- Choose your role on the battlefield and form hand-tailored squads through the new Specialist system.
Creators could choose classic-era content, Battlefield 2042 content, or mixes of eras where the chosen template supported them. The combination is the point: Portal was meant to let players reshape familiar Battlefield ingredients, rather than simply replay each older game unchanged.
What does March 2024 mean for Portal?
EA’s March 28, 2024 Update 7.0.1 post described a small hotfix after Update 7.0, with fixes involving weapons, spawning and other issues. It was not a comprehensive Portal announcement or evidence that the hotfix introduced a particular Portal feature. The Update 7.0.1 post is useful for dating that release, but not for treating March 2024 as Portal’s launch or a full feature snapshot.
Season 7, Turning Point, released on March 19, 2024. On April 9, EA said Season 7 would be the game’s final official season, while also saying Battlefield 2042 would continue to receive in-game challenges, events, modes and ongoing maintenance. EA’s news archive later listed updates through 2025. The end of seasonal releases therefore did not amount to an announced immediate end of all support. EA’s Battlefield 2042 news archive reflects the later update history.

What about progression and current availability?
In its launch-era Portal briefing, EA said progression in Battlefield 2042 would be synchronized across modes. That is EA’s stated design at the time, not a blanket guarantee that every current Portal experience grants full progression under today’s rules. Progression eligibility, active server populations, platform- or region-specific availability and playlist rotations can change; verify the rules and match availability in-game.
EA has also published material for a separate Portal feature in Battlefield 6. Its tools and documentation concern that different game and should not be used to infer what Battlefield 2042 Portal supports.
Which Portal approach should you choose?
| Choice | Best for | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Preset template and settings | Getting a match running quickly or making a familiar mode feel different | Mode, team configuration, loadouts, bots and other supported match modifiers, as described in EA’s Builder guide |
| Logic Editor | Experiences that need custom rules or nonstandard victory conditions | Event-linked rules and consequences, as described in EA’s Portal overview |
| Classic-era or mixed-era content | Reworking familiar maps, weapons and factions or combining eras | Available content depends on the selected template and the experience configuration, according to EA’s Builder guide |
For a first creation, a preset is the lower-friction route; the Logic Editor makes sense once the idea cannot be expressed through the standard settings alone. To play rather than build, use Portal’s discovery side to find community experiences, then check the chosen match’s current rules and availability.
