Battlefield REDSEC is Battlefield’s free-to-play experience, and you do not need to own Battlefield 6 to play it. EA launched REDSEC on October 28, 2025, alongside Battlefield 6 Season 1. It is available as a digital download on supported PC and console storefronts; you need an EA Account and a stable internet connection.
How to download Battlefield REDSEC
- Open the store for your platform: the EA app, Steam, or Epic Games Store on PC, or the PlayStation Store on PS5 or Microsoft Store on Xbox Series X|S.
- Search for Battlefield REDSEC and download the free experience.
- Sign in with an EA Account and connect to the internet to play.
These are the platforms listed in EA Help’s REDSEC download and access guidance. Platform accounts or subscriptions may also apply, depending on your platform and location. EA specifically notes a Germany-specific PlayStation Plus condition, so console access should not be assumed to be subscription-free everywhere.

What’s included in REDSEC?
REDSEC launched with three parts: Battle Royale, Gauntlet, and Portal. The details below reflect EA’s launch descriptions; REDSEC is a live service, so content and modes may change.
Battle Royale
EA’s launch format has 100 players in a match: either 25 four-person squads or 50 duos. The mode combines class-based play with training paths, missions, intel caches, tactical destruction, vehicles, looting, and a closing danger ring. Matches take place on Fort Lyndon, which EA described at launch as a Southern California map of urban centers, military compounds, and suburban neighborhoods, and as the largest Battlefield map created at that point. That size description is EA’s claim, not an independent map-size comparison.

Gauntlet
Gauntlet is a round-based squad elimination mode. EA’s launch description pits eight teams of four against each other, with randomized missions determining which squad advances.
Portal
Portal provides tools to create and discover custom REDSEC experiences. The available tools and places to play may change with updates.

Do you need Battlefield 6 or a console subscription?
You do not need to buy Battlefield 6 to play REDSEC. You do need an EA Account and a stable internet connection. Additional platform accounts or subscriptions may be required under platform and regional rules; check the relevant storefront and EA’s current access guidance for your location before downloading.
