Battleheart 2 is a strong fit for iPhone and iPad players who want to steer a party through fast, real-time fights and experiment with heroes, talents, and gear. Its sequel-era additions deepen the original formula, but the 2018 review evidence also points to a sparse story and occasional trouble selecting characters who overlap. If you prefer turn-based combat or a story-led RPG, those trade-offs matter.
How Battleheart 2 plays
Battleheart 2 is a real-time tactical party RPG, not a turn-based one. In Christine Chan’s July 15, 2018 iMore review, players draw paths to move heroes toward a location or enemy, tap heroes and skill icons to activate abilities, and target allies with healing or defensive skills. Each battle lets you bring up to four characters; between encounters, the review describes managing equipment and talents and choosing randomized battles on a map.
The central appeal is active party control: you decide where heroes go, when to use abilities, and which teammates need support while combat is underway. Chan described the touch controls as simple and intuitive, writing: “For those who haven’t played the original, the controls in Battleheart are simple, intuitive, and designed for touch screens.” That is her assessment in a 2018 review, not a claim of current independent testing.
What the sequel adds
Mika Mobile presents Battleheart 2 as a sequel to its 2011 mobile RPG, with more room to customize a party and build characters. Its official feature page lists:

These are developer-published specifications, not independently verified counts. The added options should appeal most to players who enjoy trying party combinations and tuning gear and skills. They do not, by themselves, establish how much replay value or balance the game offers.
What works—and what may frustrate
Party experimentation and touch-first combat
Chan praised the return to the series’ core formula, flexible character selection, party experimentation, intuitive touch controls, and more detailed graphics and environments. The result she describes is a sequel that feels familiar in its basic combat while giving players more ways to shape a party.

Selection precision in crowded fights
Chan also reported difficulty selecting overlapping characters when a fight became hectic. That caveat goes to the heart of the control scheme: touch movement and ability use are direct, but selecting the exact hero can become less straightforward when units cluster together. Players who value precise, uninterrupted command input may find that frustrating.
A light story and progression concerns
The iMore review characterizes the story as sparse. Individual Apple App Store reviews add a separate concern: one 2018 reviewer praised character variety and touch play while criticizing grind-heavy progression and a low level cap; another called it a strong continuation that expanded the original’s systems. These are individual opinions, not a representative survey or consensus, so treat the grind criticism as a potential player concern rather than a measured verdict.

Solo play, co-op, and what is known
The developer advertises optional co-op for up to four players. Chan’s 2018 review said players shared a four-character party and that co-op appeared local-only at the time. That observation is dated and does not verify the game’s current multiplayer connectivity or network behavior. If online play is essential, check the current App Store listing or developer information before buying rather than assuming the 2018 description still applies.
Should you buy Battleheart 2?
Battleheart 2 is most compelling if you want active touch-controlled combat, party-building choices, gear decisions, and the option to adjust difficulty. Fans of the first game may appreciate the familiar combat foundation, while noting Chan’s observation that the sequel’s visual style differs from the original’s cartoonier look.

It is a less certain match if your priority is a substantial narrative or effortless hero selection during crowded encounters. The evidence here comes from a 2018 professional review and individual store comments, not a current comparative test against other mobile RPGs, so the best decision rests on whether party experimentation and real-time control outweigh those caveats for you.
