Its word charms let you alter events at key moments, while a visual Chronicle tracks the alternatives. The publisher estimates a playthrough at about 5–7 hours, depending on play style. Steam’s user-review snapshot is strongly positive, though that rating reflects Steam players rather than a full critic consensus.
What kind of game is Beacon Pines?
Beacon Pines is a cute-and-creepy adventure presented as a mysterious book. You play both Luka, the young protagonist investigating strange events in his town, and the reader of Luka’s story. Its central loop is narrative: explore the story, collect golden charms engraved with words, then use them at turning points to change what happens.

The charms are more than dialogue choices. A different word can send the story into a different branch, and the Chronicle lays out those branches so you can see alternate versions of events. Fellow Traveller says players can explore branches and endings without starting over from the beginning. That structure makes revisiting a choice part of the design rather than a separate new-game run.
How long is Beacon Pines?
Fellow Traveller’s FAQ estimates approximately 5–7 hours for a playthrough, depending on play style. That is the publisher’s estimate, not an independently measured completion time. Because the story branches, a player who explores more alternatives may spend longer than someone following one route.

Is Beacon Pines worth playing?
If you want a compact, story-first mystery where the main interaction is shaping the narrative, Beacon Pines looks like a good fit. The word-charms mechanic gives the story a tangible branching structure, and the Chronicle helps make those alternatives easy to revisit. It is less suited to someone looking primarily for action systems or a long campaign.
Steam displayed 97% positive from 2,560 English-language reviews when checked on October 8, 2026. That is a dynamic Steam user-review snapshot; the score and review count can change, and it should not be read as a critic aggregate. Steam also displays favorable excerpts from Kotaku, PC Gamer, and Rock Paper Shotgun, but those brief store-page blurbs are not enough to establish a detailed critical consensus about pacing, characters, prose, or the amount of agency the branches provide.
Where can you play it?

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Are the soundtrack and artbook available?
The Steam listing includes a digital soundtrack and artbook as extras, and the Collector’s Edition bundle includes both alongside the game. Fellow Traveller’s FAQ also points to composer Matt Meyer’s Bandcamp for the soundtrack. These are digital extras; the available information does not establish physical editions.
Who should give Beacon Pines a try?
- Try it if you enjoy story-led mysteries, branching narratives, and a shorter adventure you can explore through alternate paths.
- Look elsewhere if your priority is action-heavy gameplay, a lengthy campaign, or a game whose appeal rests on deep mechanical systems.
The core appeal is the way a single word can redirect Luka’s story and how the Chronicle makes those routes visible. Whether the characters, writing, and pacing work for you is a matter of taste; the available review snapshot alone cannot settle those questions.
