BeamMP’s default server port is 30814. In ServerConfig.toml, confirm [General] contains Port = 30814, then forward that port from your router to the computer running BeamMP-Server for both TCP and UDP. The host operating-system firewall must also allow BeamMP-Server, or the configured port, in both directions.
Prefer not to run the server on your own PC? Godlike.Host offers hosted BeamNG.drive servers with free DDoS protection and up to three free backups a day.
If you choose another port, replace 30814 everywhere: the server configuration, router rule, firewall rule and connection address. The port must be between 1024 and 65535, free on the host and different from the port used by every other BeamMP server on that machine.

BeamMP’s official port-forwarding guidance states that the server requires UDP and TCP port 30814 unless you changed the value in ServerConfig.toml. A rule that forwards only one protocol is incomplete: some connection attempts will fail even though the server appears online locally.
Where BeamMP gets its port number
The first server start creates the configuration
Run BeamMP-Server once before editing its settings. That initial launch creates ServerConfig.toml in the server’s working directory. Stop the process, open the file in a text editor and locate the [General] section. The normal entry is:

- ROG-exclusive Gaming Network streamlines Triple-Level Game Acceleration setup and connections through convenient SSIDs
[General]
Port = 30814
Use the number shown in your file as the authoritative value. A server that was previously customized may not use 30814, and the router and firewall must match the actual configured number rather than the documented default.
Custom ports and multiple servers
The maintenance configuration reference allows a Port value from 1024 through 65535. The selected number cannot already be occupied by another service on the host. If you run more than one BeamMP server on one computer, assign a distinct port to each server and create separate forwarding and firewall rules as needed.

Environment variables can override the file
For server release v3.2.0 and later, environment variables can override values in ServerConfig.toml. BEAMMP_PORT is an example. If the file says one number but the running process behaves as though it uses another, inspect the environment used to launch the service, container or startup script. Forward and test the effective port, not merely the value written in the file.
How to port-forward BeamMP step by step
- Start BeamMP-Server once. Let it create
ServerConfig.toml, then stop it so you can verify the setting safely. - Record the effective port. Check
[General]→Port. Use 30814 unless you intentionally selected a valid custom value. If you use BeamMP v3.2.0 or newer and a launch environment definesBEAMMP_PORT, use that override. - Give the host a stable local IPv4 address. Your router’s forwarding rule must always point to the computer running BeamMP-Server. Use a DHCP reservation or another method that prevents the host’s LAN address from changing. The exact menu name varies by router.
- Create the router rule. Open the router’s port-forwarding or virtual-server page and send the selected port to the host’s local IPv4 address. If the router asks for internal and external ports, enter the same number in both fields. Select TCP and UDP together when the interface permits it; otherwise create one rule for TCP and a second for UDP.
- Allow the traffic in the host firewall. Permit BeamMP-Server itself, or the selected port, for incoming and outgoing TCP and UDP traffic. A router rule cannot bypass a computer firewall that drops the packets after they arrive.
- Start the server and test it. Keep BeamMP-Server running while checking reachability with CheckBeamMP. Test using the public address and selected port for an outside connection. Testing a stopped server will produce a misleading failure because no process is listening.
Port forwarding affects traffic arriving at your home network; it does not change the port BeamMP-Server listens on. Both sides must agree: the application’s port, the router’s destination, the firewall allowance and the address supplied to players.

Which address should a player use?
Testing on the hosting computer
On the same machine that runs BeamMP-Server, connect to 127.0.0.1:<port>, replacing <port> with 30814 or your custom value. This loopback address tests the local server process without involving the router or the public internet.
Connecting from another device in the house
A computer or console on the same LAN should use the host’s local IPv4 address and port. This test checks whether BeamMP-Server and the host firewall accept LAN traffic. It does not prove that the router is reachable from the internet.

Connecting from outside the home
Players on the internet use the home network’s public IP address and the configured port. The forwarding rule must point that traffic to the BeamMP computer’s current LAN address. If your public IP changes, the address you gave players may become stale even though the port rule is still correct.
Why friends still cannot connect
| Observed problem | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Local connection works, outside connection fails | The router rule is missing, targets the wrong LAN address or the ISP does not provide a reachable public IPv4 address. | Verify the destination IPv4, confirm the server is running, and check for CGNAT with the ISP or router status. |
| Some tests succeed but others fail unpredictably | Only TCP or only UDP was forwarded, or one protocol is blocked by the host firewall. | Create allowances for both TCP and UDP in the router and operating-system firewall. |
| The configured number and observed number disagree | An environment variable such as BEAMMP_PORT overrides the file in v3.2.0 and later. |
Inspect the environment used by the process and forward the effective port. |
| The server never becomes reachable | The selected port is already used by another service, the value is outside 1024–65535, or the server is not listening. | Choose an unused valid port, give each server on the host its own number and restart BeamMP-Server. |
| Players can connect directly but cannot find the server in the list | The server is configured with Private = true. |
Use a direct address and port. A private server is hidden from the public list but can still accept direct connections when reachable. |
CGNAT and mobile connections
Carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT) can place several customers behind an ISP-controlled address. In that situation, your router may show an internet-facing address that is not directly reachable from outside, so an inbound forwarding rule cannot complete the path. BeamMP also warns that mobile 4G and 5G connections may prevent residential forwarding. Ask the ISP whether the connection supplies a reachable public IPv4 address before spending time changing local rules.

Home hosting or a VPS?
A home server is convenient when the ISP provides a reachable public IPv4 address and you can administer both the router and host firewall. A VPS or root server avoids the residential-router step, because the machine is already in a datacenter network where you control the server firewall and networking. The trade-off is administrative work on the rented system and latency that depends on its geographic location.
| Decision factor | Home computer | VPS or root server |
|---|---|---|
| Public reachability | Requires an ISP connection with a reachable public IPv4 address; CGNAT can block forwarding. | Designed for internet reachability, subject to the provider’s network and firewall controls. |
| Router work | Requires a forwarding rule from the home router to the BeamMP host. | Skips residential port forwarding. |
| Firewall work | Configure the host firewall and keep the router rule aligned with it. | Configure the VPS operating-system or provider firewall for the selected TCP and UDP port. |
| Latency | Depends on players’ routes to your home connection. | Depends on the datacenter location and player routes. |
| Several servers | Each server on one machine needs a unique port and corresponding rules. | Each server still needs a unique listening port, even though the residential-router step is absent. |
Security considerations
BeamMP describes port forwarding as a security risk and says it is not responsible for externally linked services. Keep the host firewall enabled rather than relying solely on the router. Expose only the port that BeamMP-Server actually uses, and allow the required TCP and UDP traffic instead of opening a broad range of unrelated ports.
Before sharing an address, confirm that the server is using the intended port, that the forwarding destination is the correct host and that no other service is bound to that number. When you stop hosting, remove the router rule if it is no longer needed.
Quick Recap
A practical verification checklist
ServerConfig.tomlexists and the effectivePortis known.- The port is between 1024 and 65535 and is not used by another service.
- Every server on the same computer has a different port.
- The router forwards that port to the host’s stable local IPv4 address.
- Both TCP and UDP are selected, whether in one combined rule or two rules.
- The host firewall allows BeamMP-Server or that port for incoming and outgoing traffic.
- BeamMP-Server is running during the CheckBeamMP test.
- Local, LAN and public tests use the appropriate address: loopback, LAN IPv4 or public IP.
- The ISP connection is not blocked by CGNAT or an incompatible mobile network.
- If the file and behavior conflict, the process environment has been checked for
BEAMMP_PORTor another override.
