If BeamNG.drive keeps crashing, start by testing it in Safe Mode: if the crash stops, investigate your mods and User folder before changing drivers or reinstalling the game. If it still crashes, check the exact error, verify the installation, compare your PC with the published requirements, and look for a Known Issue that matches your game version or hardware.
1. Note when BeamNG.drive crashes
Before changing anything, record when the problem occurs: on startup, while loading a map, during gameplay, or only with a particular vehicle, map, or mod. Copy the full error code or message and note your game version. These details help distinguish a general launch failure from a content-specific crash.
BeamNG’s issue-reporting guidance asks for reproducible steps and relevant vehicle, map, and settings information. Keep those details handy as you troubleshoot.
2. Run the game in Safe Mode
Open the BeamNG.drive Launcher and select Support Tools → Safe Mode. Safe Mode starts the game with a temporary, empty User folder for that session, excluding your usual mods, settings, saved configurations, and other user files.

- If the crash stops: your normal User folder, its contents, or the cache becomes the leading place to investigate.
- If the crash continues: look next at game files, drivers, system requirements, software conflicts, and version-specific issues.
Safe Mode is a diagnostic comparison, not a repair by itself. It narrows the search without proving which file or setting is responsible. See BeamNG’s Safe Mode instructions for the launcher path and details.
3. Isolate mods and User-folder files
If Safe Mode avoids the crash, return to your normal setup and test its contents methodically. Back up or rename the current versioned User folder so BeamNG can create a fresh one. Then move your files back in small groups, testing after each group. BeamNG’s advice is direct: “Move your files one folder at a time!”
When a group brings the crash back, narrow that group further until you find the likely culprit. Outdated, broken, or conflicting mods can cause crashes and fatal errors; mods that replace core files are especially worth checking. Consult the official mod troubleshooting guide.

4. Clear the cache when stale files or mods are involved
Cache clearing is most relevant when the crash appeared after adding mods or you are seeing related material or texture problems. For that kind of issue, BeamNG recommends disabling mods, clearing the cache, retesting with mods still disabled, and then reactivating mods selectively.
Recommended Free Tools
Use the launcher’s support tools to clear the cache, following the current official mod troubleshooting steps. Do not treat cache clearing as a universal fix for crashes that persist in Safe Mode or appear unrelated to stale content.
5. Verify BeamNG.drive’s game files
When launch or installation files may be damaged, verify the installation before attempting a clean reinstall. BeamNG’s launcher can compare file hashes and report compromised files in its log.

- BeamNG launcher: open Support Tools → Verify Integrity.
- Steam: open Library, right-click BeamNG.drive, choose Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
- Epic Games Store: use the verification procedure in BeamNG’s Verify Integrity guide.
If verification does not resolve an installation problem, BeamNG recommends a clean install. Use its guide for the relevant platform and steps rather than deleting files at random.
6. Compare your PC with BeamNG’s requirements
BeamNG GmbH’s requirements page, last modified in 2025, lists the following specifications. These are product requirements, not independent performance tests or evidence that a particular component is causing a crash.
| Specification | Minimum | Recommended for 1080p |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | 64-bit Windows 10 | Not stated on the requirements page |
| Processor | Ryzen 5 1600 or Core i5-8400 | Ryzen 7 3700X or Core i7-9700 |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 32 GB RAM |
| Graphics | At least 6 GB VRAM; RX 570 or GTX 1060 examples | At least 8 GB VRAM; RX 6700 or RTX 3060 examples |
| DirectX | DirectX 11 | DirectX 11 |
| Available storage | 60 GB | 60 GB |
BeamNG notes that the game can use more than 16 GB of RAM, laptop components may perform slower than similarly named desktop parts, and mods increase storage needs. The live Steam listing is the place to check for the most current requirements.

If your PC meets the requirements, that does not rule out a driver or software conflict. Check for current graphics drivers from your GPU manufacturer, and avoid assuming that a RAM upgrade will fix a crash unless your system actually falls short of the stated requirements.

BeamNG’s Known Issues page changes over time, so compare it with the version and configuration you are using. The listing reviewed for this article included several conditional leads:
- Vulkan and VRAM: slowdowns or crashes may occur when the game uses more VRAM than is available.
- Logitech force-feedback wheels: a crash is listed when “Use Logitech features” is enabled. The documented temporary workaround is to disable that option and keep Logitech G HUB updated.
- Nvidia overlay and Vulkan: the listing notes that an Nvidia overlay can break Vulkan on some configurations.
These are configuration-specific possibilities, not fixes for every crash. Check the current Known Issues entry before changing renderer or peripheral settings.

8. Use the error code and Support ID to choose what to do next
When BeamNG displays an error code, use it to focus the next check rather than applying unrelated fixes. The official Common Error Messages guide describes these examples:
- 0x00000001: possible causes include drivers, mods, or incompatible software.
- 0xC0000005: usually indicates a bug or that the game exceeded its allocated budget.
- 0xC0000135: Windows could not load a required DLL or component. BeamNG’s steps include verifying game files and reinstalling required components.
If the crash persists, follow the issue-reporting guide and include your Support ID, exact steps to reproduce the crash, and relevant vehicle, map, and settings details. The Support ID archive contains launcher and game logs, DxDiag hardware information, your mod list, settings, and temporary files that can help support diagnose the problem.
Choose the next check by crash pattern
| What you observe | Useful next check |
|---|---|
| Crash stops in Safe Mode | Isolate User-folder files and mods; clear cache if stale files or mod-related problems fit the symptoms. |
| Crash continues in Safe Mode | Check error codes, system requirements, drivers, game integrity, and Known Issues. |
| Crash occurs only with one vehicle, map, or mod | Reproduce without that content, then test it separately and check for mod conflicts. |
| Crash occurs with a particular renderer, overlay, or peripheral | Compare the setup with the current Known Issues list and test the relevant configuration change. |
These patterns help organize troubleshooting; they do not establish a cause without testing your own setup.
