Beast of Reincarnation launched on August 4, 2026. The Japanese official game site lists that release date, and PlayStation Blog announced the same date for PS5 on February 12, 2026. The game was developed by Game Freak. Its Japanese official site credits Fictions, Inc. as publisher and says Happinet Corporation licenses and publishes it in Japan and Asia; those regional roles should not be assumed to apply identically elsewhere.

What is Beast of Reincarnation about?
The story is set in Japan in 4026, in a harsh world transformed by blight. Emma is an outcast born affected by the blight and able to manipulate plants; her plant-like hair also features in traversal and attacks. She travels with Koo, a malefact—a creature regarded as a threat—toward the Beast of Reincarnation, described by Xbox Wire as the source of all blight.

Game Freak describes the premise as a “one-person, one-dog action RPG.” The official framing centers on Emma and Koo as companions, rather than a conventional human party.

How does Emma and Koo’s combat work?
Emma fights in real time with her katana, while Koo’s abilities are selected from a command menu. The result is an action-RPG rhythm with a tactical pause: parrying as Emma earns points that can be spent on Koo’s skills, and combat slows while you choose a command. Director Kota Furushima said the team prioritized this sense of “tempo,” giving players chances to stop, consider a fight and respond with a command-RPG mindset.
Customization supports different approaches. Spirit Stones grant effects tied to battle actions; Emma can acquire new katanas, and Koo can equip Charms with specialized bonuses. Xbox’s product description also cites skill trees and loadouts intended to support ranged, stealthy or aggressive styles.

The game offers Normal, Hard and Story difficulty modes. In Story mode, parry timing is more forgiving and enemies deal less damage, according to Xbox Wire. That makes it the specifically documented lower-pressure option for players who want more room to learn the combat.

Is Beast of Reincarnation a Soulslike?
The available official descriptions establish it as an action RPG with real-time katana fighting, parries and selectable companion skills. They do not label it a Soulslike. Parrying alone is not enough to establish that genre label, and the documented command-based layer and Story mode’s more forgiving parry timing are important parts of its design. Players comparing it with Soulslikes should look at the combat and difficulty details rather than treating the label as confirmed.
What platforms is Beast of Reincarnation on?
Official announcements confirm PS5 and the Xbox ecosystem. Xbox Wire’s January 22, 2026 announcement listed Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Xbox Cloud, and described the game as Xbox Play Anywhere and Handheld Optimized.
