Ben Affleck confirmed that he used AI in Animals, his upcoming Netflix crime thriller, but did not identify what it did. At Bloomberg Screentime, he said he was hesitant to spell out the uses because he wanted to preserve the film’s “illusion of reality.” A separate account says AI helped the production move faster in some cases, mostly in post-production; the tools and specific tasks remain undisclosed.
What Ben Affleck confirmed about AI in Animals
At Bloomberg Screentime, Affleck described his use of AI broadly: “I used [AI] for lots of things in that movie.” He declined to identify those uses, comparing disclosure to a magician explaining a trick before performing it. ComingSoon reported his remarks in its coverage of the interview.
That confirms AI was used during the making of the film, but it does not reveal whether it was involved in a particular shot, edit, department, or other task.
Why he is hesitant to name the uses
Affleck said he wanted to protect the “illusion of reality” that filmmaking creates. His concern, as reported, was that explaining the methods could draw attention to the artifice behind what audiences see. He did not say that the use was secret because it generated scenes or performances, and the remarks do not establish that AI created visible content.

What AI reportedly helped the production do
Rolling Stone reported Affleck saying AI allowed the team “to move in some cases more quickly, really mostly in post-production, to do things that otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to do.” This is a general description of where AI helped, not a breakdown of the tasks or a claim of a measured schedule or budget saving. The account appears in Rolling Stone’s report on his comments.
What is still unknown
The published accounts do not name the AI system or vendor, explain the prompts or workflow, or identify any scenes, shots, edits, or production roles involved. They also do not quantify time or cost savings. It would be inaccurate to conclude from Affleck’s broad disclosure that AI generated the film, replaced particular workers, or made its finished images.

Affleck founded InterPositive, an AI filmmaking company that Reuters says he sold to Netflix earlier in 2026. Rolling Stone reported the sale in March 2026 at a value of $587 million. Neither report establishes that InterPositive’s products were used on Animals; the acquisition and the film’s AI use are separate facts.

Animals is a crime thriller co-written, directed by, and starring Affleck. Reuters describes it as an upcoming Netflix film, and Rolling Stone reported an October 9, 2026 release date. That date is scheduled, not evidence that the film is already available.
