For 7 Days to Die 2.0 and later, the safest all-purpose S-tier picks are Rule 1: Cardio, Healing Factor, Pack Mule and Lucky Looter. They improve stamina, recovery, carrying capacity and progression regardless of the weapon you use. Parkour is a strong mobility pick, while Dead Eye, Machine Gunner, Pummel Pete and Mother Lode become top-tier only when they match your build or your group’s job.
There is no official universal ranking: community lists disagree because a solo scavenger, a dedicated miner and a machine-gun specialist value different things. Use the tier list below as a decision framework, then confirm each rank and value on your current in-game perk screen.

What changed in the 2.0 perk system?
The 2.0 “Storm’s Brewing” update reorganized the perk menu. It added a General Perks tab and moved Light Armor, Medium Armor, Heavy Armor, Master Chef, Living off the Land, Lock Picking and Lucky Looter there. Older guides that place Lucky Looter under Perception describe the pre-2.0 structure and should not be used for a current character.

Each attribute now contains 10 perks with five levels each. Every attribute also has a Mastery perk set that becomes available from attribute level 6. That structure makes attribute investment a bigger commitment: raising an attribute unlocks its perk branch, while General Perks remain available outside a specific attribute.

The official release notes describe the change as follows: “We’ve added a brand-new General Perks tab and moved some perks that don’t need to be governed by any particular attribute.” You can check the publisher’s site at 7daystodie.com for the latest 2.0-era notes and subsequent patches.
2.0+ 7 Days to Die perks tier list
This table ranks perks by how broadly useful they are, not by damage in a single specialized build. “Conditional S” means the perk can be the best choice for a particular role but is not universally efficient.
| Tier | Perk | Category | Best use | Why it ranks here |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | Rule 1: Cardio | Fortitude | Every character, especially explorers and runners | Consistent stamina value affects travel, fighting, looting and emergency escapes without requiring a particular weapon. |
| S | Healing Factor | Fortitude | Solo survival and attrition-heavy play | Provides out-of-combat health regeneration, reducing downtime after ordinary injuries. |
| S | Pack Mule | Strength | Looters, builders and solo players | More carrying capacity means fewer abandoned items and fewer return trips. |
| S | Lucky Looter | General Perks | Any character who relies on scavenged gear | Improves the value of exploration and is no longer a Perception perk in 2.0+. |
| A | Parkour | Agility | Urban movement, kiting and escape routes | Mobility and jump efficiency are useful in combat and traversal; it is less important if you rarely move vertically. |
| Conditional S/A | Dead Eye | Perception | Rifle-focused builds | Worth the investment when rifles are your primary damage source; inefficient if you use another weapon line. |
| Conditional S/A | Machine Gunner | Fortitude | Machine-gun builds | Can define a Fortitude combat build, but its value depends on sustained use of machine guns. |
| Conditional S/A | Pummel Pete | Strength | Club and other melee builds | Excellent for a club specialist and unnecessary for a ranged character. |
| Conditional S/A | Mother Lode | Strength | Dedicated miners and resource-focused groups | Can be a top-tier group role when one player supplies ore; low priority for a character who rarely mines. |
| B | Armor and utility branches | General Perks | Characters whose equipment or profession needs them | Light, Medium and Heavy Armor, Master Chef, Living off the Land and Lock Picking are useful, but their payoff depends on your chosen equipment and routine. |
S-tier perks: the reliable first investments
Rule 1: Cardio
Rule 1: Cardio is the most consistent community pick because stamina is a universal resource. Running between points of interest, climbing, repositioning during a fight and escaping a bad pull all consume the same pool. A perk that improves that loop remains useful even when you change weapons or armor.

Take it early when your character spends substantial time outside a secure base. It is especially forgiving for new players, because stamina mistakes are often what turn a manageable encounter into a death. The exact rank values can change with patches; use the current perk card rather than an old guide’s percentages.
Healing Factor
Healing Factor is described as out-of-combat health regeneration. That makes it a downtime perk rather than a direct damage increase: after a fight, fall or minor infection-related scrape, you can recover without consuming as many healing items or waiting as long.
Rank #2
- Explore – Huge, rich environments, with unique biomes and worlds up to 100 square kilometres in size.
- Craft – Handcraft and repair weapons, clothes, armour, tools, vehicles, with hundreds of recipes and schematics.
- Build – Design your fort with traps, electricity, auto turrets, and gadgets to survive in a fully destructible and mouldable world.
- Cooperate or Compete – Work together to build settlements or against each other in a wasteland where zombies and outlaws rule the land.
- Farm or Hunt – Plant gardens for sustainable resources or head out to the wilderness and hunt over a dozen unique animals.
It is strongest for solo players, long expeditions and characters who regularly take chip damage. In a coordinated group with abundant medical supplies and a dedicated support routine, you may delay it for your combat branch, but it remains a dependable general pick.
Pack Mule
Pack Mule addresses one of the most expensive hidden costs in the game: travel time. Looting a building, mining a vein or collecting building materials is only profitable if you can bring the haul home. Extra inventory capacity lets you stay in a location longer and reduces repeated trips through dangerous areas.
Prioritize it for solo play, builders and players who loot every container. A lightweight combat run may need it later, particularly if a vehicle or storage network already handles most transport. Community pages sometimes quote a specific slot bonus; those figures are not verified here, so check the current character screen.
Lucky Looter
Lucky Looter belongs to General Perks in 2.0 and later. Its value compounds with the amount of time you spend opening containers: a character who clears many points of interest receives more opportunities for improved finds than a character who spends most of the day crafting at home.
It is a strong early-to-midgame choice for scavengers and solo players. If your group has one designated looter, that player should usually take it first while teammates specialize in combat, farming or mining. Do not follow pre-2.0 pages that list Lucky Looter as a Perception perk.
Rank #3
- Unlimited hours of gameplay
- Explore - Huge, unique and rich environments, offering the freedom to play the game however you want
- Craft - craft and repair weapons, clothes, armour, tools, vehicles, and more
- Build - Take over a ruin, or build from the ground-up. Design your fortress to include traps and defensive positions to survive the undead
- Cooperate or Compete - Includes two player split screen mode, with support for up to 4 players online, in Player versus Player, co-op survival, or co-op creative modes
Mobility and role-dependent A-tier picks
Parkour
Parkour ranks highly because vertical movement is a survival tool. Better jumping and fall management help you cross broken terrain, reach rooftops and create distance from a pursuing horde. The Steam 2.0 patch material gives a level range in which jump stamina cost is reduced by 10% to 50% across the perk’s levels. Treat those figures as patch-specific and verify the card in your build.
Choose Parkour early if your routes involve cities, rooftops or frequent escapes. It can move down your personal list on flat terrain, in a fortified base or for a character who solves most encounters with stationary ranged attacks.
Dead Eye, Machine Gunner and Pummel Pete
Weapon perks should be judged against the weapon you actually intend to carry. One community guide maps machine guns to Fortitude, clubs and shotguns to Strength, and rifles to Perception. That is a build-planning guideline, not a reason to buy every weapon branch.
- Dead Eye: raise it when rifles are your main ranged weapon and you want Perception to support that line.
- Machine Gunner: raise it when automatic weapons are your primary damage source and you can maintain ammunition for them.
- Pummel Pete: raise it when clubs are your dependable close-range solution; skip it on a rifle-first character.
A weapon perk can be “S tier” for its specialist and merely “B tier” for everyone else. Spending points in several unrelated weapon branches usually produces a weaker character than concentrating on one reliable line and using general perks to cover survival gaps.
Mother Lode
Mother Lode illustrates why no universal list works. In one community ranking it sits in a top tier; another describes it as the defining perk for a group’s miner while emphasizing that its value is mainly cooperative. If one player mines ore for everyone, Mother Lode can repay its cost through a sustained resource pipeline. For a solo character who only mines occasionally, inventory, stamina or combat may solve more immediate problems.
Rank #4
- Explore & Craft - Huge, unique and rich environments, offering the freedom to play the game any way you want while you craft and repair weapons, clothes, armor, tools, vehicles, and more.
- Build - Take over a ruin, or build from the ground-up. Design your fortress to include traps and defensive positions to survive the undead - the world is fully destructible and moldable.
- Cooperate or Compete - Includes two player split screen mode, with additional online multiplayer modes and features to be revealed in the near future.
- Create - Unleash your creativity and build the ultimate world by yourself friends. Enjoy unlimited access to nearly 400 in-game items and 1,200 unique building blocks in creative mode.
- Improve - Increase your skills in a multitude of active and passive disciplines. 7 to Die is the only true survival RPG with nearly 50 multi-tiered skill and perk groups.
Best perk priorities by play style
Solo scavenger
- Start with Rule 1: Cardio so travel and retreats are less punishing.
- Add Healing Factor to reduce downtime after routine fights.
- Take Pack Mule and Lucky Looter as your exploration workload grows.
- Choose Parkour if your map route includes dense cities, rooftops or difficult terrain.
- Commit to one weapon perk, then fill remaining points with the utility branch that addresses your biggest recurring problem.
Co-op generalist
Agree on jobs before everyone spends points. One player can specialize in Lucky Looter and another in Mother Lode; a third can carry the principal weapon branch. Rule 1: Cardio and Healing Factor remain broadly useful, but the group can postpone duplicated utility if a teammate already covers the role. Avoid creating four identical characters when a miner, looter and combat specialist would make the team more efficient.
Dedicated miner or builder
Mother Lode and Pack Mule have a natural relationship: mining improves the supply while carrying capacity determines how much reaches storage. Add stamina support when travel between the mine and base is the limiting factor. A combat perk is still necessary if you mine alone or underground encounters are frequent; do not treat a resource role as permission to ignore survival.
Weapon specialist
Pick the attribute that governs your chosen line, then compare the first few ranks with universal perks. A machine-gun user may choose Machine Gunner early, a rifle user Dead Eye, and a club user Pummel Pete. If the weapon is not yet available or ammunition is scarce, take a general perk first and specialize once the equipment is dependable.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to spend points without weakening your build
- Define the job. Decide whether this character is primarily a looter, miner, farmer, builder, scout or damage dealer.
- Choose one weapon line. Identify the weapon you can reliably craft, find or supply with ammunition.
- Cover one survival weakness. Use Cardio for stamina pressure, Healing Factor for recovery, Pack Mule for carrying problems or Parkour for movement problems.
- Use General Perks deliberately. Because Lucky Looter and the armor, cooking, farming and lock-picking branches are outside the attributes, they can complement rather than replace your combat investment.
- Check attribute thresholds. Mastery perk sets begin at attribute level 6, so compare the cost of reaching that threshold with the benefit of buying several early ranks elsewhere.
- Reassess after a play session. If you are not mining, carrying full inventories or using the selected weapon, the points are signaling a mismatch between the plan and actual play.
Common tier-list mistakes
Treating an old guide as a 2.0 guide
The most important version error is Lucky Looter. Pre-2.0 material can show it under Perception, while the 2.0 structure places it in General Perks. Always compare the guide’s attribute layout with your current menu before copying its build.

Search snippets and community pages sometimes list precise bonuses, such as a five-step Lucky Looter percentage progression, an inventory-slot total for Pack Mule or a claim that maximum Parkour removes fall damage. Those figures are not verified for this list. Patch changes, editions and old screenshots can make a precise number misleading; rely on the in-game card and current patch notes.

Ranking damage without considering ammunition or access
A weapon perk is only as good as the weapon, ammunition and situation supporting it. A theoretically powerful line can be a poor first purchase if your character is still using a different weapon or cannot sustain its resources. Rank the complete loop—damage, availability, stamina, ammunition and escape options—not the perk name alone.
Assuming mining is automatically a solo priority
Mother Lode is valuable when mining is a major part of your schedule. In a group, concentrating the mining investment can benefit everyone; in solo play, the same points may produce more immediate value through mobility, healing or inventory capacity.
What is and is not established about the rankings
Community guides consistently place Rule 1: Cardio, Healing Factor, Pack Mule and Lucky Looter near the top, with Parkour appearing high in several lists. They disagree on weapon and mining perks because those depend on build and group role. No published popularity, win-rate or pick-rate statistics establish an objective ranking, and several pages labeled with recent years have metadata indicating they may be much older.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse this list as a current 2.0+ starting point, not as a permanent patch-proof chart. Before committing many points, open the perk card in your installed version, check its current wording and confirm that the attribute or General Perks location matches your menu.
