Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThere is no independently tested, market-wide “best” 7 Days to Die host established by the available evidence. The most defensible 2026 choice is the provider whose capacity, platform support, location, backups, mod policy and renewal cost fit your group. One current US storefront snapshot gives Nitrado a useful reference point: eight slots for $12.99 per 30 days, 10 slots for $16.19 per 30 days, or eight slots for $35.49 for 90 days. Those are dated storefront prices, not a market average or a guaranteed checkout total.
For a console-and-PC group that can stay within eight players and does not need mods, Nitrado’s listed crossplay configuration is a plausible candidate. For a modded world, a larger group or a different region, treat those restrictions as disqualifiers and compare other hosts—or consider self-hosting—on the same criteria.

A hosted dedicated server is a recurring subscription for a game process that remains available when the owner’s gaming PC is switched off. The provider supplies the machine, network connection and a control panel; you supply the world, settings, player permissions and ongoing administration.
#1 Best Overall
- Unlimited hours of gameplay
- Explore - Huge, unique and rich environments, offering the freedom to play the game however you want
- Craft - craft and repair weapons, clothes, armour, tools, vehicles, and more
- Build - Take over a ruin, or build from the ground-up. Design your fortress to include traps and defensive positions to survive the undead
- Cooperate or Compete - Includes two player split screen mode, with support for up to 4 players online, in Player versus Player, co-op survival, or co-op creative modes
The monthly slot price is only one part of the decision. A suitable host must also match your edition and platform combination, provide a nearby region, preserve the world with usable backups, expose the settings you need and handle game updates without destroying continuity. A cheap plan that cannot run your mod list, caps crossplay at your group’s size or places everyone on a distant continent is not good value.
What “slots” means
Slots are the provider’s stated concurrent-player limit. They are not a promise that every player will experience identical performance: large bases, many entities, high view distances and heavy mod packs can increase CPU, memory and storage pressure. Buy for the number of people who may play at the same time, not merely the number who joined during your first weekend.
Why the game mode matters
A vanilla cooperative world, a heavily modded overhaul and a cross-platform console world have different requirements. Decide whether your group values crossplay, mods or a larger player cap before comparing plans. In the verified provider snapshot, crossplay and mod support are mutually exclusive, so this is a first-order choice rather than a setting you can safely change later.
Verified 2026 price snapshot
The following prices were displayed on Nitrado’s US 7 Days to Die product page on October 13, 2026. Prices, taxes, currency, availability and renewal terms can change by storefront and over time.
| Plan shown | Term | Displayed price | Simple equivalent | What the figure does not establish |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 slots | 30 days | $12.99 | About $12.99 per 30-day term | It is not a market average, an uptime guarantee or a final tax-inclusive checkout total. |
| 10 slots | 30 days | $16.19 | About $16.19 per 30-day term | It does not prove that 10 slots will perform better for a particular mod set or world. |
| 8 slots | 90 days | $35.49 | About $11.83 per 30 days when divided evenly | The arithmetic is only a comparison of the displayed term; renewal and cancellation conditions still need checking. |
The eight-slot 30-day plan works out to roughly $1.62 per slot for one 30-day term, while the 10-slot plan is roughly $1.62 per slot as well. That calculation is a way to compare the displayed packages, not a measure of performance or quality. Confirm the currency, taxes, automatic renewal, cancellation process and any setup fees at checkout.
What the verified provider lists
Nitrado’s product information lists PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series crossplay, automated backups, selectable server locations, configurable settings and mod installation. Its FAQ says users can customize the server name, description, game mode and game world, and can install or remove mods. These are vendor statements, not independent tests of latency, support response or backup restoration.
Update handling
Nitrado says a server typically receives a game-server update within three hours after a release and needs a restart before that update applies. “Typically” is a provider estimate, not a service-level guarantee. Plan for a maintenance window: warn players, stop active sessions, allow the restart, then check that the world loads and the expected version is displayed.

Administration features to verify before paying
- Whether the advertised backup is automatic, how often it runs, how long copies are retained and whether you can restore a chosen point yourself.
- Whether the control panel exposes every setting your group needs or only a subset of configuration files.
- Whether you can upload, remove and update mods without opening a support ticket.
- Whether the location you want is available for the exact game edition and plan.
- Whether you can download the world and configuration files if you later migrate.
Crossplay: can PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series play together?
Nitrado states that its listed crossplay option covers PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. The option is disabled by default. Enabling it imposes four material restrictions:
| Setting | Crossplay disabled | Crossplay enabled |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum players | Use the plan’s stated slot limit, subject to the game and provider configuration. | Capped at eight players according to the provider FAQ. |
| Mods | Mods may be installed or removed according to the provider’s normal tools. | Mods are disabled. |
| Easy Anti-Cheat | The crossplay-specific setting is not imposed by this restriction list. | Enabled. |
| “Ignore EOS Sanctions” | The crossplay-specific setting is not imposed by this restriction list. | Disabled. |
This means a 10-slot purchase does not give a crossplay group 10 usable places: the crossplay cap is eight. It also means you cannot combine console crossplay with a modded server on this configuration. The available information does not establish support for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, so do not assume older console editions are included. Check the current game and provider documentation for the exact edition you own before purchase.
Choosing between crossplay and mods
- Choose crossplay when the group includes PC, PlayStation 5 and/or Xbox Series players and everyone accepts an eight-player ceiling and an unmodded world.
- Choose a non-crossplay server when all players are on a compatible platform family and mods, custom settings or more than eight simultaneous players are more important.
- Split the group when some players require console access and others require a modded overhaul. One server configuration cannot satisfy both of these requirements under the listed restrictions.
Mods, configuration and world management
For a non-crossplay server, the provider says mods can be installed or removed and that server settings are customizable. Before committing to a mod pack, confirm that every player is using the same game version and mod versions. Keep a copy of the world before changing major mods; a failed conversion can make a save unreadable until the previous files are restored.
A safe mod-change sequence
- Announce a maintenance window and stop players from joining.
- Use the control panel’s backup function, or download the world if that option is available.
- Record the current game version, mod names and versions.
- Install or remove one coherent set of mods rather than changing many unrelated files at once.
- Restart the server and check the console or status page for load errors.
- Join with a test character before inviting the whole group.
- If the world fails to load, stop the server, restore the known-good files and remove the incompatible change.
Crossplay changes this workflow because mods are disabled when the option is enabled. Do not promise console players a modded crossplay experience based on the existence of a mod-installation button in the normal control panel.

How much does a 7 Days to Die server cost?
The verified prices indicate a starting point of $12.99 for eight slots per 30-day term on the checked US storefront. Your real cost depends on term length, taxes, currency conversion, renewal pricing and any optional service charges. A longer prepaid term may lower the simple monthly equivalent, but it also commits money before you know whether the group will keep playing.
Cost questions to answer at checkout
- Is the displayed amount an introductory price or the recurring renewal price?
- Does the term renew automatically, and how do you cancel before the next charge?
- Are taxes calculated from your billing address?
- Is the currency US dollars or another storefront currency?
- Does changing slots, location or crossplay alter the price?
- Can you downgrade after a quiet month, and what happens to the world if the subscription expires?
Divide the final recurring price by the number of regular players only as a budgeting exercise. It should not be used to rank hosts: a lower per-player figure can hide a distant region, weaker restore controls or a slot cap that your group cannot use.
Capacity, region and latency
Select a region near most of the group, not near the server owner’s home by default. If players are split across continents, choose the location that minimizes the worst typical connection or agree which group will accept higher latency. A provider’s sample ping, if shown, is not a universal measurement for your household, internet provider or peak-hour route.

Capacity checklist
- Count the maximum simultaneous players, including occasional guests.
- Apply crossplay’s eight-player ceiling before selecting a 10-slot or larger plan.
- Allow headroom for a growing group and activity-heavy bases.
- Check whether the provider lets you change slot count without migrating the world.
- Ask what happens to excess players when the limit is reached; do not assume a queue exists.
Backups and continuity
Automated backups are listed for the verified provider, but the available information does not state frequency, retention period or the exact restore process. Those details determine whether a backup protects you from a corrupted save, an accidental deletion or an unwanted mod update.
Recommended Free Tools
Questions that distinguish a useful backup system
- How many restore points exist at once?
- Are backups stored separately from the active game instance?
- Can you choose a timestamp, or only restore the latest copy?
- Can you download a copy for independent storage?
- Does restoring overwrite the current world immediately?
- Is there a documented procedure for recovering after a failed game update?
Keep a manual copy before major world-generation changes, mod migrations and administrative experiments even when automated backups are enabled. A backup that cannot be located or restored when the server is stopped is not a complete continuity plan.
Self-hosting versus a rented server
Self-hosting can avoid a recurring provider bill, but it transfers hardware, networking, security, patching and backup duties to you. The official 7 Days to Die Help Center article “Hardware Information,” updated April 21, 2026, warns that running a dedicated server requires more RAM and heavier CPU use than ordinary client play. Its 12 GB recommended memory figure is a client recommendation and must not be treated as a dedicated-server requirement.
Self-hosting is reasonable when you have
- An always-on machine with dedicated-server-specific CPU and memory capacity.
- A stable connection and a network configuration that permits the required players to connect.
- Time to apply updates, restart after patches and monitor logs.
- A backup destination separate from the server’s primary drive.
- A plan for security, operating-system updates and access control.
A rented host is usually simpler when
- The owner cannot leave a machine online reliably.
- Players live in several locations and need a selectable data-center region.
- You want a control panel for settings, backups and restarts instead of maintaining services manually.
- You need a straightforward migration or cancellation path if the group stops playing.
Do not buy a self-host machine using the game client’s memory number alone. Find the dedicated-server requirements for the exact version and expected player load, then allow headroom for the world and operating system.
A practical buying process
- Write down the non-negotiables. Record platforms, maximum simultaneous players, crossplay, mods, preferred region, backup expectations and whether you need file access.
- Eliminate incompatible plans. Remove any option that cannot support your platform combination, exceeds the crossplay cap, blocks required mods or lacks a nearby location.
- Normalize the price. Compare the same slot count and billing duration, then add taxes and renewal pricing. Do not compare a promotional 90-day equivalent with a recurring monthly price without labeling the difference.
- Verify continuity. Confirm backup frequency, retention, restore steps, world downloads and what happens after cancellation or failed payment.
- Deploy a test world. Set the name, description, game mode and world, then connect from every platform your group will use.
- Test the failure path. Make a small change, create or locate a backup, restart, and verify that you can restore without guessing.
- Document administration. Save the panel URL, account recovery details, moderator permissions, mod versions and the maintenance procedure in a shared private note.
- Review after the first billing term. Compare actual player attendance, latency, restart interruptions and backup usability against your original requirements before committing to a longer term.
Troubleshooting common purchase and setup problems
The group cannot join after enabling crossplay
Confirm that every player is on a supported edition, that crossplay is actually enabled, and that the server has restarted after the setting changed. Check the player cap: a crossplay configuration cannot exceed eight players under the listed provider rules. If an older console edition is involved, verify compatibility rather than assuming it is covered.

Check whether crossplay is enabled. The provider states that enabling crossplay disables mods. If mods are essential, turn crossplay off only after confirming that every remaining player can connect on the supported platform combination, and restore a pre-change backup if the world was altered incompatibly.
An update appears available but the old version is still running
Nitrado says updates typically arrive within three hours of release and require a restart. Check the provider status and version display, schedule a restart, and test the world before reopening it. Do not treat the stated three-hour timing as a guaranteed deadline.

A world is missing after a configuration change
Stop making further changes. Identify the last known-good backup, confirm its timestamp and restore it according to the control panel’s procedure. If the panel does not explain retention or restoration clearly, contact support before overwriting files.
Performance is poor despite having enough slots
Reduce simultaneous load, inspect activity-heavy areas and compare the group’s location with the selected server region. Slot count is a concurrency limit, not a performance benchmark. For a modded or unusually busy world, check whether the plan exposes suitable CPU and memory information before upgrading or migrating.
How to compare additional hosts fairly
The available evidence verifies one provider snapshot, not a winner. When you add another host, collect equivalent facts from its current primary documentation and place them beside the same Nitrado fields.
| Comparison axis | What to record | Why it changes the decision |
|---|---|---|
| Total cost | Slots, term, currency, taxes, renewal price and cancellation terms | Prevents a low introductory price from hiding a higher recurring cost. |
| Platform and capacity | Supported editions, simultaneous-player limit and crossplay cap | Determines whether every intended player can connect at once. |
| Mods and configuration | Supported mod types, installation method, file access and crossplay interactions | Separates a vanilla console world from a modded PC server. |
| Geography | Available locations and any region restrictions | Nearby infrastructure generally gives your group a better starting point for latency testing, though marketing pings are not universal measurements. |
| Continuity | Backup frequency, retention, restore controls, downloads and update/restart policy | Shows how recoverable the world is after corruption, mistakes or patches. |
| Administration | Control-panel settings, permissions, support channels and migration/export options | Determines the time and risk involved in routine maintenance or a later move. |
Decision guide for common groups
Eight or fewer players on mixed PC and current consoles
The verified Nitrado configuration fits the stated platform mix if the group accepts no mods, an eight-player maximum, Easy Anti-Cheat and the other crossplay restrictions. Validate the exact console edition and region before paying.
Eight or fewer PC players using mods
Keep crossplay disabled and verify that the desired mods work with the current game version. The provider lists mod installation, but it does not independently guarantee compatibility with a particular overhaul or mod collection.
More than eight simultaneous players
Crossplay under the listed rules is unsuitable because it caps the server at eight. Compare non-crossplay plans whose slot limit covers the group, or divide players across worlds.
A technically confident owner with suitable hardware
Evaluate self-hosting against the dedicated-server hardware guidance, network exposure, patching workload and backup plan. The client’s 12 GB recommendation is not enough evidence to size the machine.
Bottom line: what “best” means here
For 2026, the evidence supports a buying method rather than a universal winner. Nitrado’s checked US listing gives a concrete baseline—$12.99 for eight slots per 30 days, $16.19 for 10 slots, and $35.49 for eight slots over 90 days—and lists backups, locations, configurable settings, mods and PC/PlayStation 5/Xbox Series crossplay. Its crossplay mode simultaneously limits the server to eight players and disables mods, so those features cannot be evaluated independently. Compare every alternative on the same cost, capacity, platform, mod, region, backup, update and administration axes, then choose the smallest plan that satisfies your group without violating its must-have constraints. Godlike.Host remains listed first here, thanks to its choice of 10 locations, free backups with restore and built-in mod installer.
