It provides a web panel, Discord integration, kits, economy features and a live map. If you run a Linux server and prefer a free command-line tool, LinuxGSM is the stronger fit. Pterodactyl and AMP are panel alternatives, while BotMan, ServerTools, Shin Server Tools and RAT 5 focus on narrower administration needs.
Best 7 Days to Die server manager: the short list
No single 7 Days to Die server manager suits every host. The right choice depends on whether you need a browser panel, Discord controls, in-game commands, container management or a simple Linux service wrapper.

| Tool | Hosting model | Main strengths | Cost position | Setup effort |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CSMM + Allocs Server Fixes | Web panel connected to your game server | Browser administration, Discord integration, kits, economy, live map | CSMM is listed as free-tier; Allocs is free | Higher; requires the Allocs API, web permissions and a token |
| LinuxGSM | Self-managed Linux command line | Install, start, stop, update and monitor a dedicated server from shell scripts | Free and open source | Moderate Linux administration knowledge |
| Pterodactyl | Web panel and container host, usually on your own VPS | Resource limits, user accounts and browser-based server lifecycle controls | Panel is open source; hosting infrastructure is separate | High; requires panel, node and egg configuration |
| AMP | Commercial proprietary panel | General game-server management through a paid control panel | Commercial | Usually lower than assembling a panel yourself, but verify current 7DTD support |
| BotMan | Discord bot | Chat-based administrator commands | Not stated | Low to moderate |
| ServerTools | In-game mod | Teleports, homes, zones, anti-grief and administrator commands | Not stated | Low; no separate web panel |
| Shin Server Tools | Server-side mod | Administrative tools without requiring clients to install a mod | Not stated | Low to moderate |
| RAT 5 | Windows desktop manager | Windows-oriented server administration | Listed as free | Low to moderate |
Use the table as a decision filter rather than a popularity ranking. No published user-count, market-share or survey data establishes a universal winner. One frequently cited comparison is operated by a 7DTD hosting company that sells servers preloaded with CSMM, so its ranking should be treated as marketing-influenced rather than independent testing.

CSMM is the broadest option when moderators want to work from a browser and players interact through Discord as well as the game. Its feature set includes a live map, kits, economy functions and Discord integration. The important architectural detail is that CSMM is not a standalone install: it communicates with the game through Allocs Server Fixes. Without that server mod and its API, the panel cannot perform its normal functions.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What CSMM is good at
- Centralized administration: Moderators can use a web interface instead of relying exclusively on console access.
- Community automation: Discord integration, kits and economy features reduce repetitive moderator work.
- World visibility: The live map is useful for checking player locations and activity when the map is configured correctly.
- Flexible permissions: Different staff members can be given controlled access instead of sharing an operating-system account.
What makes CSMM harder to deploy
CSMM has a steeper learning curve than a chat-only bot because several systems must agree: the game server, Allocs Server Fixes, the web server configuration and CSMM’s authentication token. A panel that loads in a browser is not proof that its API connection is working.
CSMM installation sequence
- Back up the server. Save the world, server configuration and any existing mod files before changing the installation. Test the backup before making a production change.
- Install Allocs Server Fixes first. Follow the current project documentation for the game version you are running. The mod must be active on the dedicated server before CSMM can use its API.
- Verify the installed version. Run the
versioncommand through the server console or RCON and record the result. Check that result against the compatibility information for Allocs and CSMM before continuing. - Configure web access. In
webserver.xml, set the permissions required by the live map and any other API features you intend to expose. Keep the web endpoint restricted to the addresses and accounts that need it. - Create and protect the web token. CSMM uses a token as a password when it talks to the server. Store it as a secret, do not paste it into public Discord channels, screenshots or support posts, and rotate it if it is exposed.
- Install and configure CSMM. Use the project documentation for the current installation method and configuration names. Enter the server address, API details and token exactly as required by that release.
- Test with a non-owner account. Confirm that the panel can read server status, that the live map respects its permissions and that a moderator can run only the commands assigned to that role.
- Test recovery. Stop and start the game server, restart the panel service and confirm that the connection returns without manually recreating credentials.
Documentation locations and configuration labels can change. Verify the current instructions on the CSMM project pages immediately before installation rather than copying an old guide.
LinuxGSM: the best free self-managed Linux option
LinuxGSM is a free, open-source command-line tool for administrators who run their own Linux machine. It is not a graphical 7dtd server admin panel. Instead, it supplies scripts for common lifecycle tasks such as installing the server, starting and stopping it, updating files, checking status and viewing logs. That approach is efficient for a technically comfortable operator, especially when the server already uses SSH, systemd, cron or external monitoring.
Choose LinuxGSM when
- You control a Linux VPS or dedicated machine and are comfortable with shell access.
- You want to avoid a proprietary control panel and recurring panel licensing.
- You plan to automate restarts, updates or backups with your own scripts.
- Your staff can work with command-line permissions instead of needing a browser dashboard.
LinuxGSM cautions
A GitHub issue records 7 Days to Die support and a startup problem involving a newer ControlPanel property name. That report does not prove every installation is affected, but it is a reminder to check the current script and issue tracker when a server fails during startup. Pin a known-good revision, keep your game files backed up and test updates on a staging instance before applying them to a busy public server.
Pterodactyl: a capable panel if you already operate containers
Pterodactyl has an official 7 Days to Die egg listing. The listed egg uses SteamCMD and specifies default game ports 26900–26902 plus web or telnet-related ports 8080–8082. The egg is imported from the panel’s administrator area through Admin Area → Nests → Import Egg, where you upload the egg JSON.

Why administrators choose it
- Browser-based lifecycle controls and resource limits.
- Separate server instances and user accounts on one node.
- A familiar workflow for hosts already running other games in Pterodactyl.
Important Pterodactyl limitations
The listing confirms that an egg exists, but it is not the same as a guarantee of complete, current game support. The egg listing was last updated on 2024-06-14, and a separate issue reports a startup telnet Connection refused error. The same issue notes that the default port 8080 can overlap with Node.js services. Before deployment, check the current egg repository, confirm whether it has moved or been forked, reserve non-conflicting ports and test console access from inside the container.
Pterodactyl is therefore a good infrastructure choice for an experienced host, not the easiest first manager for one private 7DTD world. You still need to maintain the node, panel, database, firewall and storage in addition to the game itself.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAMP: a paid panel that needs current verification
AMP is a commercial, proprietary control panel. It may appeal to operators who prefer a supported graphical workflow over shell administration, but the 7DTD-specific feature claims commonly repeated in listings should be checked against AMP’s own current documentation before purchase. The available material does not establish a complete feature matrix, current game-version compatibility or a definitive price for your region and edition.
Choose AMP only after confirming the exact 7 Days to Die module, supported server versions, backup behavior, RCON or telnet handling, user permissions and licensing terms that apply to your deployment.
Lightweight alternatives: bots and server-side mods
BotMan for Discord-first administration
BotMan is aimed at administrators who want commands in Discord rather than a full browser panel. It can be a practical fit for a small staff that already spends its time in a moderation channel. It does not replace a complete web dashboard, operating-system service manager or backup system, so pair it with a reliable host-level process for updates and recovery.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
ServerTools for in-game commands
ServerTools adds in-game chat commands for teleports, homes, zones, anti-grief controls and administrator actions. It is appropriate when staff need to act while playing and do not need a separate panel. Because its interface is in-game, it is less suitable for reviewing logs, managing several instances or administering a server that is offline.
Shin Server Tools for server-side administration
Shin Server Tools adds administrative functions on the server side. Players do not need to install a client-side mod to join, which reduces friction for public communities. Confirm the release’s compatibility with your current game build and test permissions with an ordinary player account.
RAT 5 for Windows hosts
RAT 5 is listed as a free Windows server manager and has a recent update in the cited listing, but that listing provides little detail. Treat it as a candidate for Windows administrators who want a desktop tool, and verify supported game versions, backup functions, security practices and maintenance activity before making it the foundation of a public server.
How to manage a 7 days to die server safely
The manager is only one layer. A dependable 7DTD operation combines the game configuration with host security, backups, controlled permissions and a tested recovery plan.
Separate game administration from machine access
Give moderators the narrowest permissions they need. A Discord bot or web panel account should not automatically grant shell access to the host. Use individual accounts, remove former staff promptly and rotate tokens when a moderator leaves. Never share the CSMM web token as if it were an ordinary command.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Make backups restorable, not merely frequent
Back up the world, configuration, player data and mod configuration on a schedule appropriate to your activity. Keep at least one copy outside the game machine. Periodically restore a copy to a test instance; a backup that has never been restored is an assumption, not a recovery plan.
Control updates
Record the game build, manager version and mod versions together. Read compatibility notes before updating any one component. For CSMM, verify Allocs Server Fixes and API behavior as a pair. For LinuxGSM, inspect current issues when a script or property name changes. For Pterodactyl, validate the egg and image before recreating a container.
Limit exposed ports
Open only the game and management ports required by your chosen architecture. The Pterodactyl listing’s defaults include 26900–26902 and 8080–8082, but you may need different values to avoid conflicts. Do not expose a management endpoint broadly when a firewall or private network can restrict it.
Test staff workflows
- Can a moderator see status without seeing secrets?
- Can an administrator restart the game without restarting the whole host?
- Do live-map permissions reveal only the intended information?
- Do Discord and in-game commands produce an auditable result?
- Can you recover after a failed update or a lost panel connection?
Troubleshooting common manager failures
CSMM shows a panel but no server data
- Run
versionthrough console or RCON and confirm the game is responding. - Check that Allocs Server Fixes is installed on the actual production instance, not only in a staging directory.
- Recheck the token character-for-character and replace it if it may have been exposed.
- Inspect
webserver.xmlpermissions, especially those required for the live map. - Restart the relevant service and review logs for an API or authentication error.
The live map is blank or forbidden
Verify the map permission in webserver.xml, confirm that the API endpoint is reachable from the CSMM host and check that a firewall is not allowing the panel page while blocking the underlying request. Test with a limited staff account so you do not mistake owner privileges for a working permission model.
Pterodactyl reports telnet connection refused
Confirm that the egg’s console or telnet setting matches the game configuration, that the process is listening inside the container and that the assigned port is mapped correctly. Check for a conflict on 8080, particularly if Node.js or another web service is running on the same node. Because the reported issue is tied to a particular setup, compare your versions with the current egg documentation before changing ports.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
LinuxGSM starts and immediately exits
Read the startup log, compare the script revision with the installed game configuration and look for the reported newer ControlPanel property-name problem. Avoid editing a script blindly in production; copy the instance to staging, apply the documented fix or update and then repeat the start, stop and restart tests.
Which tool should you choose?
Choose CSMM + Allocs if you need a community control center
Select this combination for a public or semi-public community that values Discord integration, kits, economy features and a live map. Budget time for the dependency, token security and web-permission work. It is the strongest default when the question is specifically about a full web panel rather than a service script.
Choose LinuxGSM if you want a lean Linux stack
Use LinuxGSM for a self-managed Linux server where shell access and automation matter more than a graphical dashboard. It keeps the management layer small and avoids panel licensing, but your team must supply its own access controls, monitoring and presentation layer.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Choose Pterodactyl if you already run a multi-server node
Pterodactyl makes sense when you already understand nodes, eggs, containers and port allocation. Confirm the egg’s maintenance status and solve console-port conflicts before inviting players.
Choose a focused mod or bot for a narrow need
BotMan is the natural starting point for Discord commands. ServerTools or Shin Server Tools fit in-game administration, with Shin avoiding a client-side mod requirement. RAT 5 is the candidate to investigate for a Windows desktop workflow, subject to current compatibility and security checks.
Final recommendation
Start with CSMM and Allocs Server Fixes when you want the most complete 7 Days to Die administration experience and can handle a multi-part setup. Pick LinuxGSM for a free, self-managed Linux command line. Use Pterodactyl or AMP only after verifying their current 7DTD support, and choose BotMan, ServerTools, Shin Server Tools or RAT 5 when their narrower interface matches how your staff actually works. Whichever route you take, verify compatibility with your present game version on the project’s own documentation before installing.
