Best Achievement Tracker Apps for Steam Games (2026 Guide)

By VGSources Team 11 min read

SteamHunter is the best fit for mobile and social tracking, Ordago Software’s paid Achievement Manager is the strongest desktop choice for library-wide planning and an in-game overlay, and Steam Achievement Manager (SAM) is the leading free, open-source Windows utility when you need more than Steam’s own views. Steam’s native achievement system remains the authoritative baseline for each supported game.

These tools are not interchangeable. SteamHunter is an Android tracker that emphasizes filters, progress trends, friends and leaderboards. Ordago’s product is a paid Steam application released on January 23, 2026, built around global library progress, rarity categories, a Kanban board and an overlay. SAM is a separate, unofficial Windows project that can both view and manage achievement state. The similar names make the distinction important.

What a Steam achievement tracker actually does

Steam achievements are tied to individual applications (games), not to a universal achievement database that every third-party app controls. Valve describes Steam Stats and Achievements as providing “an easy way for your game to provide persistent, roaming achievement and statistics tracking for your users.” In practical terms, a supported game reports achievement state to Steam, and Steam can show which achievements are unlocked or still locked.

The built-in Steam experience is the most authoritative place to verify a game’s state because it is the service that receives the game’s achievement data. Its limitation is organization: the standard interface is generally centered on one game at a time rather than a cross-library planning workspace. A tracker can make your backlog easier to search, sort and schedule, but it should not be treated as a second source of truth when its data is stale or a game has not synchronized.

Before choosing an app, decide which of these jobs you need:

  • Checking: seeing locked and unlocked achievements for a particular game.
  • Portfolio tracking: comparing completion percentages, rarity or playtime across your whole library.
  • Motivation and planning: setting goals, monitoring monthly progress or organizing a queue.
  • Active management: changing achievement state or compatible statistics rather than merely viewing them.

Steam covers the first job. SteamHunter and Ordago’s Achievement Manager concentrate on the second and third. SAM also supports the fourth, which is why it deserves more caution than a passive tracker.

Quick comparison

Option Platform Cost status Best use Notable capabilities Trust and distribution
Steam native achievements Steam client and supported games Included with Steam Authoritative per-game checking Persistent achievement and statistics tracking for supported applications Valve’s first-party system
SteamHunter Android Current price not stated; check the Android listing Mobile, social and library-wide progress tracking Every game and achievement tracking, filters, sorting, completion percentage, playtime, rarity, monthly progress, friends and leaderboards Third-party app using Steam OpenID; it says it does not store your Steam password
Achievement Manager by Ordago Software Windows desktop through the Steam Store Paid; current price is volatile and should be checked on the listing Desktop planning and in-game progress visibility Global progress for every library game, rarity categories, integrated Kanban board and customizable overlay Commercial Steam utility; Ordago Software is the developer and publisher
Steam Achievement Manager (SAM) Windows desktop Free and open source Technical users who need viewing plus achievement/statistic management Viewing and managing achievements and compatible statistics Unofficial third-party project; separate from Ordago’s product and not Valve-endorsed

“Achievement Manager” refers to two different products in this table. Ordago’s application is a paid Steam Store listing with planning and overlay features. Steam Achievement Manager, usually shortened to SAM, is a free, open-source Windows application distributed as an independent project. Check the publisher and distribution channel before installing anything.

Best for mobile and social progress: SteamHunter

SteamHunter is the clearest choice when your primary tracker is an Android phone. Its product description is specifically aimed at tracking Steam achievements and working toward 100 percent completion. It can present information at both the game level and the individual-achievement level, so you can move from a broad backlog view to the exact objectives still locked.

What you can track

  • Completion percentage: compare how far you have progressed in each game.
  • Rarity: identify achievements that fewer players have earned and decide whether they are worth prioritizing.
  • Playtime: use the time associated with a game as context when choosing your next target.
  • Monthly progress: see recent momentum instead of relying only on an all-time percentage.
  • Filters and sorting: narrow a large library by the criteria the app exposes, then inspect individual achievements.
  • Friends and leaderboards: compare progress socially rather than tracking in isolation.

Those features make SteamHunter more than a mirror of Steam’s per-game screen. It is useful when the question is, “Which game should I finish next?” rather than simply, “What did I unlock in this game?”

Visa Virtual eGift Card | $25 (plus $3.95 Purchase Fee) - For Online Use Only
  • Visa Virtual eGift Cards are designed for online use only. Gift Cards are subject to Terms and Conditions: a.co/5bw3qXJ

How to set it up

  1. Install SteamHunter from its current Android distribution page and check the developer identity before signing in.
  2. Choose its Steam sign-in flow. SteamHunter says it uses Steam OpenID and does not store your Steam password; use the OpenID page rather than typing credentials into an unrelated form.
  3. Allow the app to read the Steam information it needs, then wait for the library and achievement data to populate.
  4. Open a game to inspect its completion percentage and achievement list. Apply filters or sorting to isolate locked, rare or otherwise relevant goals.
  5. Use the monthly-progress, friends and leaderboard views only after confirming that the displayed account is the one you intended to connect.

OpenID reduces the need to hand your password to the app, but it does not make every third-party service first-party. Revoke access through your Steam account settings if you stop using the service, and treat any unexpected request for a Steam password as a reason to stop.

Where SteamHunter fits—and where it does not

SteamHunter is a strong mobile companion and social dashboard. It is not the native authority for correcting a game’s state, and SteamHunter’s available product description does not establish a desktop edition, a price, or an offline mode. If you want a Windows overlay while playing, choose a different category of tool.

Best for desktop planning and an overlay: Achievement Manager by Ordago Software

Ordago Software’s Achievement Manager is a paid application listed on Steam and released on January 23, 2026. Its defining promise is an immediate view of global achievement progress for every game in your Steam library. That library-wide view addresses the main organizational gap in Steam’s own per-game presentation.

Features that distinguish it

  • Global library progress: inspect progress across all games instead of opening each title separately.
  • Rarity categories: sort or interpret achievements by how uncommon they are.
  • Kanban planning: place goals into a visual workflow so that “next,” “in progress” and similar planning states are explicit.
  • Customizable in-game overlay: keep achievement information visible while playing, with the layout adjusted to your preferences.

The Kanban board is the key difference for players who treat completion as a project. A percentage tells you where you stand; a board lets you decide what to do next. The overlay serves a different need: it reduces the need to switch out of a game to check objectives.

How to evaluate it before paying

  1. Open the current Steam Store listing and verify that the publisher is Ordago Software and that the release date shown is January 23, 2026.
  2. Read the current price and system requirements on that listing. The price and review percentages can change, so do not rely on an old quotation.
  3. After installation, let the application finish reading your Steam library before judging whether its global view is complete.
  4. Check that the rarity categories match the games you care about, then create a small Kanban workflow for unfinished goals.
  5. Enable the overlay only after confirming that it appears in your games and does not interfere with your preferred display or input setup; customize its layout from the application’s settings.

Ordago’s product is a planner and display utility, not the same program as SAM. Ordago’s listing describes progress views, rarity, Kanban planning and overlay support; it does not establish that Ordago’s app changes achievement state.

Best free, open-source Windows utility: Steam Achievement Manager (SAM)

Steam Achievement Manager is a separate project whose site describes it as “a free, open-source Windows application for viewing and managing achievements and compatible statistics in Steam games.” The words viewing and managing matter. SAM is not merely a dashboard: it can interact with achievement state and compatible statistics.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Viewing versus changing state

Use the viewing side when you need a Windows utility to inspect achievement information outside Steam’s normal screens. Managing state is a different decision. Changing an achievement can affect the integrity of your profile, your own sense of progression and how other players interpret your record. SAM is unofficial, and there is no guarantee of account safety or Valve endorsement.

A cautious SAM workflow

  1. Obtain SAM from the project’s current official distribution channel, confirm that you are using the Windows project rather than Ordago’s similarly named Steam application, and scan the download according to your normal security practice.
  2. Review the project’s current status and documentation before connecting it to Steam. Open-source availability does not automatically mean that every build is current or risk-free.
  3. Start with read-only inspection. Confirm that the game and achievement list shown by SAM match the title you intended to examine.
  4. If you are considering a state change, read current Steam rules and the project’s documentation first. Decide whether the change is acceptable for your account and for any communities in which you share completion data.
  5. Keep a record of what you changed and stop if the program displays the wrong application, cannot identify the game correctly or behaves unexpectedly.

Do not confuse SAM’s technical ability to manage state with a recommendation to use that ability. For ordinary progress tracking, Steam’s native view, SteamHunter or Ordago’s planner avoids the central risk created by an active management tool.

How to see which Steam achievements you are missing

You do not need a third-party app to answer this for one game. Start with Steam, then add a tracker only if you need cross-library organization.

  1. Confirm support: open the game’s Steam page or library entry and verify that the title has Steam achievements. Not every application exposes the same achievement features.
  2. Open the game in your Steam Library: select the title and use its achievements area. Steam’s labels and layout can vary by client version, but the page should identify unlocked and locked objectives for that application.
  3. Inspect the locked list: open each objective’s description where available and note whether the requirement is clear, hidden or dependent on a particular mode or event.
  4. Check synchronization: if a recently earned achievement is missing, allow the game to finish saving and return to an online Steam session before treating the display as final.
  5. Use a second view only for organization: SteamHunter can filter and compare a library on Android, while Ordago’s application can provide a desktop global view, Kanban board and overlay. If their numbers disagree with Steam, investigate synchronization instead of assuming the third-party number is authoritative.

Choosing by your actual goal

If you want to… Start with… Why Trade-off
Verify one game’s official status Steam native achievements It is the first-party record for supported applications. Organization is primarily per game.
Track a backlog from an Android phone SteamHunter It covers games and individual achievements with filters, completion, rarity and playtime. It is Android-focused and third-party.
Compare progress with friends SteamHunter It includes friend comparison and a leaderboard. Social views depend on the account data the service can read.
Plan a completion campaign on Windows Ordago Achievement Manager Its global view, rarity categories and Kanban board are designed for planning. It is a paid commercial utility; price can change.
See goals while playing on desktop Ordago Achievement Manager It advertises a customizable in-game overlay. Overlay behavior can vary by game and system configuration.

Data quality, privacy and trust

Steam is the source of record

Because achievements are application-specific and reported through Steamworks, Steam is the place to settle a disagreement about whether a game has registered an unlock. Third-party apps improve presentation; they do not replace the game’s reporting path.

Account access is not the same as password access

SteamHunter says it uses Steam OpenID and does not store your Steam password. That is a useful security distinction, but you are still granting a third-party service access to account information. Use the official sign-in page, inspect the account being connected and remove access when you no longer need it.

Commercial and open-source tools have different review questions

For Ordago’s paid application, check the current Steam listing for price, requirements and recent support information. For SAM, inspect the project’s current release and documentation. “Open source” describes how code is made available; it is not a Valve endorsement or a promise that every download is safe.

Troubleshooting common tracker problems

A game is missing from the tracker

First verify that the game is present in the Steam account you connected and that it supports Steam achievements. Then refresh or relaunch the tracker after Steam has synchronized. A third-party app may also have incomplete coverage or a temporary data issue; compare with the game’s Steam achievement page before taking action.

The completion percentage looks wrong

Check whether the app is counting all achievements, only earned achievements, or a filtered subset. Rarity and monthly-progress views are presentation layers, so changing filters can change the number you see without changing the Steam record. If the discrepancy remains, use Steam’s per-game view as the baseline.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A recent unlock has not appeared

Finish the game’s save or transition, ensure Steam is online, and reopen the achievement page. Avoid repeatedly changing data in a third-party utility while synchronization is unresolved; that can make it harder to determine which system contains the original state.

The mobile sign-in feels suspicious

Stop and return to the official Steam OpenID sign-in page. SteamHunter states that it does not store your password, so a request to provide that password directly to an unrelated form is inconsistent with the described sign-in method.

An overlay is distracting or conflicts with play

Disable the overlay, launch the game without it, and then re-enable it after adjusting its layout. Ordago’s listing describes the overlay as customizable, but compatibility can differ between games and desktop setups.

SAM shows an unexpected game or state

Close it, verify the selected Steam account and application, and consult the project’s current documentation before proceeding. Do not make a state change when the title, achievement list or account identity is ambiguous.

Cost and availability decisions

Steam’s native achievement features are included in the Steam ecosystem. SAM is described by its project as free and open source for Windows. Ordago’s Achievement Manager is a paid Steam Store application; its current price is not stable enough to quote here, so check the live listing. SteamHunter’s feature description establishes an Android app, but not a dependable price; check its current Android listing before installing.

Platform choice may matter more than cost. A phone-first player who wants social comparisons gains little from a Windows-only utility. A desktop player who wants a Kanban workflow or an in-game overlay needs features that SteamHunter’s Android description does not claim. Someone who only checks one game occasionally can avoid third-party account access altogether by staying in Steam.
