Battlefield 6 is the closest all-purpose replacement for Call of Duty: it combines a campaign, squad-based multiplayer, vehicles and large-scale destruction. Choose Insurgency: Sandstorm for more lethal, grounded infantry combat; Rainbow Six Siege for deliberate round-based tactics; Squad for demanding PC milsim teamwork; Hell Let Loose for historical combined arms; or Metro Exodus when you want a solo military-adjacent story instead of another competitive shooter.
The right choice depends less on the label “military FPS” than on what you value in Call of Duty: a polished premium package, fast gunfights, realistic weapon handling, coordinated objectives, vehicles, a campaign, or a large player community.

“Premium military shooter” can mean two different things: a polished, broad-release package such as Battlefield 6, or a more demanding simulation of infantry combat such as Squad. The games below cover that entire range rather than pretending every Call of Duty player wants the same thing.

Scale: room-to-room fights or a battlefield?
Call of Duty usually keeps you close to the action. Insurgency: Sandstorm is the nearest fit if you want that infantry focus but with harsher consequences for exposure. Battlefield 6 expands the frame with vehicles, destructible environments and squad objectives. Squad and Hell Let Loose go further still: a single engagement can involve infantry, armor, artillery and aircraft, and your role may be supporting a plan rather than chasing a personal kill streak.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Pacing and realism
These games form a useful spectrum. Battlefield 6 remains approachable and spectacle-driven. Insurgency makes positioning and weapon handling matter more, with lethal engagements that punish careless movement. Siege slows each round down further because teams spend time gathering information, setting defenses and predicting an attack. Squad and Hell Let Loose demand the most patience: communication, logistics and following a squad leader’s plan are part of the game, not optional extras.
Mode mix and social commitment
Battlefield 6 is the broadest package if you want both a campaign and multiplayer. Insurgency: Sandstorm is unusually flexible, offering competitive PvP and cooperative PvE. Siege is fundamentally a team-versus-team round game. Squad and Hell Let Loose are primarily large multiplayer experiences, where a microphone and willingness to coordinate make a substantial difference. Metro Exodus is the outlier for players who want to play alone.
Battlefield 6: the closest mainstream premium substitute
Choose Battlefield 6 if you want the familiar shape of a major military FPS but with larger battles and more environmental interaction. Electronic Arts describes the game with “Tactical destruction. Squad-based gameplay. A new standard of FPS combat. And the return of a global-scale Campaign.” Its current official page also highlights large-scale multiplayer and a free-to-play REDSEC mode. Check the page for the current mode and platform details because live-service offerings can change.

- It offers a traditional campaign alongside multiplayer rather than requiring a purely competitive commitment.
- Squad play gives you a clear team role while retaining the immediacy of a first-person shooter.
- Vehicles and destruction create battles that feel broader and less predictable than fixed-lane arena maps.
- It is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, making it the most direct current-generation console alternative in this list.
Where it differs
Battlefield’s larger maps and vehicle combat can make the action feel less constant than a tightly designed Call of Duty playlist. You may spend time moving to an objective, choosing a spawn point or supporting a squad instead of taking a duel every few seconds. That trade-off is the reason to choose it: you want a premium military shooter with battlefield scale, not a one-for-one copy of Call of Duty’s tempo.
EA says Battlefield Studios brings together more than 20 years of Battlefield experience. That is background about the studio and series, not a guarantee that every player will prefer the new game’s balance or live-service direction.
Insurgency: Sandstorm: the best grounded infantry option
Insurgency: Sandstorm is the strongest recommendation for players who want a more realistic-feeling military FPS without giving up either cooperative or competitive play. Focus Entertainment calls it “The acclaimed team-based tactical FPS” and lists four PvP modes, three PvE modes and 14 maps, with day and night play.

What makes the gunplay different
Sandstorm is built around dangerous exposure and short firefights. You cannot rely on Call of Duty-style movement tricks or a large health buffer to escape every mistake. Clearing a room, crossing an alley and choosing an angle all carry more weight. The result is still recognizably an FPS, but the rhythm is closer to a tactical assault than an arcade sprint.

- PvP: Four competitive modes support objective-focused team play rather than only individual elimination.
- PvE: Three cooperative modes let you learn maps and weapons with friends or continue playing when you do not want ranked pressure.
- Maps: Fourteen maps and day/night conditions provide more variety than a single repeated scenario.
Platforms and ideal audience
Focus lists PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles. Pick it if you want a co-op military shooter that also provides serious PvP, particularly if “more realistic than COD” means lethal infantry engagements rather than a full simulation of logistics and command.
Rainbow Six Siege: the best tactical round-based option
Rainbow Six Siege is a different kind of Call of Duty alternative. Instead of continuous respawn-driven action, each round is an attacker-versus-defender operation with a specific objective. The cited GamesRadar guide lists PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, and describes a game supported by continuing free-map and downloadable-content updates.
How a round works
- Preparation: Defenders reinforce and place gadgets while attackers gather information and identify the objective.
- Planning: Teams choose entry points, breach locations and roles based on what they have learned.
- Execution: A small number of lives makes every angle, sound cue and doorway important.
- Adaptation: Operators and destructible surfaces let teams create or deny new routes as the round develops.
The attraction is deliberation. You spend more time reading the opposing team and less time chasing a constant stream of respawns. That makes Siege a poor choice if you want a campaign or large vehicle battles, but an excellent one if your favorite Call of Duty moments involve coordinated breaches, careful map knowledge and clutch defensive holds.
GamesRadar reports more than 25 million players for Siege. Treat that as a secondary-source figure from its current guide rather than a live population guarantee; activity varies by platform, region and season.

Squad: the best PC milsim step-up
Squad is the clearest choice for a player who wants to move from a military FPS into a communication-heavy PC milsim. GamesRadar describes it as a Project Reality-inspired game built around large conflicts and vehicles such as trucks, artillery, boats and helicopters.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
What you are signing up for
- Large maps where navigation and positioning can take longer than a typical arena match.
- Squad roles with specific responsibilities instead of universally interchangeable loadouts.
- Voice communication with squad members and leaders as a core mechanic.
- Vehicles and fire support that require coordination rather than casual use.
Squad is not the answer to “What feels exactly like Call of Duty?” It is the answer to “What is the next step if I want military teamwork to matter more than twitch speed?” Expect a learning curve, slower pacing and occasional downtime. The payoff is a stronger sense that your movement, information and support work are contributing to a wider operation.
Hell Let Loose: the best historical combined-arms alternative
Hell Let Loose takes the large-team formula into World War II. GamesRadar lists PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S and frames it as a hardcore experience in the tradition of Battlefield 1942, set across European and North African theaters.
Why choose it over a modern shooter?
The historical setting changes both the equipment and the pace. Role-based classes, tanks and artillery create a battlefield where no single assault rifle or kill streak defines the match. Infantry must work with armor and support roles, and a squad that ignores its wider objective can lose even after winning several local firefights.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Who will enjoy it
Choose Hell Let Loose if you want the scale of Battlefield but a harsher, more historically grounded atmosphere. It is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Players who primarily want rapid solo progression, a modern arsenal or constant close-quarters action should look elsewhere.
Metro Exodus: the best single-player change of pace
Metro Exodus is not a multiplayer Call of Duty replacement, but it is the best option here for someone whose priority is a military-adjacent FPS campaign without competitive matchmaking. GamesRadar lists PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and describes a single-player story centered on exploration and stealth after a nuclear war.
What you get instead of multiplayer rounds
- A story-led journey through dangerous post-nuclear environments.
- Exploration and scavenging rather than fixed competitive objectives.
- Stealth and resource decisions alongside gunfights.
- A campaign designed for solitary play and discovery.
Pick Metro Exodus when “I want an alternative to Call of Duty” really means “I want a serious first-person military-flavored game but I am finished with online competition.” It does not provide squad warfare, ranked rounds or a co-op military mode.

Choose by the experience you want
You want campaign plus multiplayer
Start with Battlefield 6. It is the only recommendation here explicitly positioned around both a returning global-scale campaign and large-scale multiplayer. Metro Exodus is the better solo-only choice if multiplayer is not required.
You want the most grounded infantry gunfights
Choose Insurgency: Sandstorm. Its four PvP modes, three PvE modes, 14 maps and day/night play give you a substantial package without requiring the full command structure of a milsim.
You want a tactical shooter with a campaign
There is no perfect single game that combines a conventional campaign with Siege’s round-based tactics or Squad’s full milsim communication. Battlefield 6 is the closest broad match because it pairs a campaign with squad-based multiplayer; play Insurgency alongside it if infantry lethality matters more than spectacle.
You want a large-scale military FPS
Battlefield 6 is the accessible choice. Squad is the deeper PC-only commitment, while Hell Let Loose supplies the same combined-arms ambition in a World War II setting on PC and current-generation consoles.
You want a co-op military shooter
Insurgency: Sandstorm is the clear fit because Focus explicitly lists three PvE modes. Battlefield 6’s emphasis is campaign and multiplayer, while Siege, Squad and Hell Let Loose are principally competitive large-team experiences.
You want “more realistic than COD” but not a simulation
Try Insurgency first. Siege is more tactical in its round structure, but its operator abilities and information game make it less like conventional infantry combat. Squad and Hell Let Loose are better only if you are willing to accept slower pacing, voice coordination and role discipline.

- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.

Platform guide: PS5, Xbox and PC
| If you play on… | Strongest starting points | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Battlefield 6, Insurgency: Sandstorm, Rainbow Six Siege, Hell Let Loose, Metro Exodus | Choose Battlefield for campaign plus large battles, Insurgency for infantry and co-op, or Hell Let Loose for World War II combined arms. |
| Xbox Series X/S | Battlefield 6, Insurgency: Sandstorm, Rainbow Six Siege, Hell Let Loose, Metro Exodus | All five cover different experiences; Siege is the round-based option and Metro is the solo option. |
| PlayStation 4 or Xbox One | Insurgency: Sandstorm, Rainbow Six Siege, Metro Exodus | Battlefield 6 and Hell Let Loose are listed for current-generation platforms rather than these older consoles. |
| PC | All six recommendations | PC is the only listed platform for Squad and the platform with the widest choice overall. |
Platform availability above follows the cited publisher page and GamesRadar guides. Store editions, feature parity and online requirements can change, so confirm the product page for your region before buying.
Buying and live-service cautions
The official Insurgency: Sandstorm page includes a named product description and a “Buy now” path, making it the cleanest place to verify the current edition. Battlefield 6 is also a clearly identified product, but edition names and storefront availability should be checked live for your platform and region. No recommendation here should be read as a promise of a particular discount, population level, cross-progression feature or future content schedule.
For any multiplayer choice, check whether your console account requires its platform’s online subscription, whether the edition includes the modes you want and whether your friends are playing on a compatible platform. A game can be an excellent Call of Duty alternative in design while still being the wrong purchase if your group is split across ecosystems.
A practical decision path
- Decide whether you need a campaign. If yes, choose Battlefield 6 for campaign plus multiplayer or Metro Exodus for solo play.
- Choose your combat scale. Pick Insurgency for close infantry, Battlefield for squads and destruction, or Squad/Hell Let Loose for full combined arms.
- Set your tolerance for preparation. Select Insurgency for a moderate tactical step, Siege for round planning, and Squad or Hell Let Loose for the greatest time and communication commitment.
- Check your platform. Squad is PC-only in the cited coverage; older consoles narrow the field to Insurgency, Siege and Metro Exodus.
- Match your social preference. Insurgency supports PvE co-op, while Metro Exodus avoids online play entirely. Siege, Squad and Hell Let Loose are strongest with coordinated teammates.
