For a general five-attachment Multiplayer setup, GamesRadar recommends the CHF Barrel, Vertical Foregrip, Extended Mag I, Quickdraw Grip, and an optic of your choice. The right build still depends on your mode, unlocks, and whether you want extra recoil control, mobility, or magazine capacity: Breaking Point lists separate low-level, Gunfighter, competitive, and Zombies configurations.
What the AMES 85 is built for
Activision describes the AMES 85 as a full-auto assault rifle with “Impressive accuracy and a suitable rate of fire” for mid-to-long-range engagements. Its launch guide lists the weapon unlock at player level 19, with three magazines and 30 rounds per magazine. Those are launch-guide details, not a current mode-by-mode balance sheet. You can assemble a weapon build in Gunsmith and carry it across Multiplayer, Round-Based Zombies, and Warzone, but that does not make one attachment combination equally suited to every mode. Build recommendations below are attributed editorial options, not official Activision builds or results from a controlled performance test.
General five-attachment Multiplayer starting build
GamesRadar’s general-purpose recommendation is:
- Barrel: CHF Barrel
- Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip
- Magazine: Extended Mag I
- Rear grip: Quickdraw Grip
- Optic: your choice; GamesRadar uses the Merlin Reflex
GamesRadar’s stated rationale is that the CHF Barrel supports headshot damage, the Vertical Foregrip helps control, the Quickdraw Grip improves aim-down-sights handling, and Extended Mag I adds capacity without the drawbacks the outlet associates with Extended Mag II. Breaking Point says this build uses the Gunfighter Wildcard to equip eight attachments and aims to develop mobility and low recoil. Gunfighter is part of this recommendation, not a requirement for public matches generally.

If you are just building the rifle for Multiplayer, start with the five-attachment GamesRadar option and adjust it to your preferences. If you are still unlocking gear, the low-level list gives a separate five-slot route. The Gunfighter list is for players deliberately using that Wildcard to fill eight slots; the competitive and Zombies lists reflect different priorities and should not be assumed to transfer unchanged to other modes.

Suggested class alongside the general build
GamesRadar’s accompanying class recommendation pairs the rifle with a GS45 secondary, Knife, Flashbang, Semtex, Assault Pack, and the Assassin, Dexterity, and Double Time perks, plus Ghost through Perk Greed. What published stats and balance history can—and cannot—tell you
CODMunity’s AMES 85 stats page, last updated September 25, 2026, displays 230 ms ADS speed, 180 ms sprint-to-fire, 2,550 ms reload, 840 m/s bullet velocity, 750 rpm fire rate, and a 30-round magazine for the selected base weapon. These are third-party displayed values, not official Activision figures; the page does not establish a definitive current Multiplayer balance sheet, so do not treat them as mode-independent measurements. The same page reports that a Warzone update on October 21, 2025, increased maximum damage range from 39.4 m to 45 m and changed bullet velocity from 880 m/s to 910 m/s. That is reported Warzone patch history, not a current Multiplayer balance claim. CODMunity’s Warzone patch history.
Attachment balance can shift over time. In its Season 4 notes, Treyarch said it wanted “every attachment to have a place across the many builds and playstyles in Black Ops 6.” That intent is not a promise that every attachment suits every weapon or that a recommendation will remain optimal after later updates.
