The right follow-up depends less on finding a copy of One Piece than on deciding which part of it you want to preserve: the marathon length, the travelling adventure, the friendships, the escalating battles or the feeling of a world that keeps opening outward.
One Piece is an unusually large benchmark. Toei Animation’s U.S. catalog lists it at 1,156+ episodes, running from 1999 and still in production. None of the three principal alternatives below matches that scale, so the comparison is about the shape of the commitment and the kind of adventure you want next.

The three best starting points at a glance
| Series | Official length evidence | Best match for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| One Piece (benchmark) | 1,156+ episodes; 1999–in production, Toei Animation U.S. catalog | A continuing treasure-hunt voyage with an exceptionally large world | The count changes as new episodes release |
| Naruto Shippuden | 500 episodes, VIZ Media current brand metadata | A huge serialized hero journey, village politics and escalating battles | The longest completed alternative here; pacing and detour tolerance matter |
| BLEACH | 366 episodes, VIZ Media current brand metadata | Supernatural battles, stylish powers and another Big Three-scale franchise | Its setting is less nautical and less travel-focused than One Piece |
| Hunter x Hunter | 148 episodes and 38 manga volumes, VIZ Media current brand metadata | A focused quest with strategic fights and a shorter investment | Its currently adapted anime run ends much earlier than the other choices |
These are publisher or licensor catalog figures, not promises about viewing time. One Piece’s total is especially fluid because its television run is ongoing. The alternatives are easier to scope, but their different structures matter more than the raw totals.

Why Naruto Shippuden is the closest marathon successor
A long-form protagonist journey
VIZ describes Naruto as a young shinobi pursuing the goal of becoming the world’s greatest ninja while protecting his village. Its official brand wording calls him a hopeful outcast who battles his inner demons and seeks to protect the people around him. That combination makes Naruto Shippuden the clearest recommendation for a One Piece viewer who wants to stay with one central hero for years of story, rivalry and increasingly consequential choices.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Like One Piece, it builds significance through relationships rather than treating fights as isolated spectacles. Naruto’s friendships, rivalries and obligations to his village continually change the meaning of later missions. If what you loved was watching a crew grow into a force that can affect governments and entire regions, Naruto’s move from personal ambition toward wider responsibility should feel familiar even though the setting is completely different.
Where the adventure shape changes
One Piece is organised as a voyage: new islands, local conflicts and discoveries continually rearrange the map. Naruto Shippuden is organised around missions, village politics and the consequences of the shinobi system. The protagonists travel, but the narrative’s centre of gravity remains the bonds and institutions they are trying to protect or reform.
That distinction is useful before you commit. If your favourite One Piece scenes are quiet journeys, eccentric towns and the anticipation of the next island, Naruto may feel more concentrated on personal history and military-style objectives. If you prefer the emotional escalation from a small promise to a crisis affecting an entire world, it is the strongest fit of the three.

The practical cost
Naruto Shippuden is the largest completed alternative in this comparison. A viewer who dislikes long detours should plan a filler-aware watch rather than assuming every episode advances the central plot at the same pace. No single current filler total is established here, so use a maintained episode guide and check the guide’s date before skipping anything. The important decision is tolerance: Naruto rewards sustained investment, but it asks for more patience than Hunter x Hunter.
Why Hunter x Hunter is the best shorter commitment
A quest that keeps changing shape
VIZ frames Hunter x Hunter around Gon’s attempt to find his father, a search that leads him into a much larger world of adventure. That premise gives the series a clean starting objective while leaving room for exams, travel, rivalries and increasingly complicated moral choices. It is the most approachable recommendation when you want the exploratory energy of One Piece without starting another several-hundred-episode marathon.

The series can begin with playful discovery and then turn toward darker strategy. Its fights are often problems to solve rather than simple contests of strength, so victories depend on reading an opponent, understanding the rules of a power and accepting an unexpected cost. That changing tone is a feature for viewers who enjoy being surprised, but it means Hunter x Hunter is not just a compressed version of One Piece’s optimism.
Why the length feels manageable
VIZ lists the anime at 148 episodes and the manga at 38 volumes. Those figures make Hunter x Hunter the shortest principal recommendation while still leaving enough room for a substantial quest narrative. You can follow the anime to its currently adapted endpoint without making a multi-year commitment, then decide whether the manga is the right way to continue exploring the world.
The shorter run also makes it easier to watch attentively. Instead of budgeting for a huge catalogue, you can focus on how each stage changes Gon’s goals and his relationships. If your One Piece catch-up was interrupted by long breaks, Hunter x Hunter offers a practical reset: a defined anime run, a clear initial objective and a progression that remains substantial without approaching One Piece’s scale.
The trade-off for choosing it first
Hunter x Hunter ends its currently adapted anime run much earlier than One Piece or Naruto Shippuden. That is not a flaw, but it changes the completion question. Choose it when you value a concentrated experience and are comfortable reaching an anime stopping point rather than expecting a television story that continues indefinitely. The listed manga volumes provide a physical route for readers who want more of the setting after the anime.
Why BLEACH works for a supernatural-action follow-up
A major peer from the same era
VIZ lists BLEACH alongside Naruto and One Piece as one of the Big Three in anime and manga. That shared status is useful context: BLEACH offers the scale, recognisable character ensemble and long-running battle structure of a major shōnen franchise, while changing the genre frame entirely.

Its official premise begins with Ichigo Kurosaki’s ability to see ghosts. From there, the story focuses on threats involving the living and the dead rather than pirates, islands and treasure. If you want a new mythology, distinctive combat abilities and a cast that can support extended conflicts, BLEACH is the most direct route.

How its world differs from One Piece
BLEACH’s movement is primarily between human and supernatural realms, not across a chain of maritime locations. The pleasure comes from learning the rules and hierarchies of those realms, watching abilities become more specialised and seeing ordinary life collide with dangers most people cannot perceive.
That makes it a good answer to the question, “Is there another long anime with stylish battles?” It is a less exact answer to “What feels like another pirate voyage?” If travel, strange islands and a constantly expanding geography are your priority, Hunter x Hunter is closer in spirit. If visual style, dramatic transformations and supernatural stakes matter more, BLEACH may be the better handoff.
Planning around the length
BLEACH’s completed television run sits between Naruto Shippuden and Hunter x Hunter in this comparison. As with Naruto, viewers who are sensitive to pacing should use a current, filler-aware guide and make their own choices about detours. The goal is not to remove every slower episode automatically; it is to know which material is essential to the central story and which can be saved for later.
Choose by the experience you want next
If you want the longest completed journey
Choose Naruto Shippuden. It gives you the largest finished run among these alternatives and the strongest emphasis on one hero’s development from an isolated outsider toward a figure carrying village-wide and world-scale responsibilities. Expect a high commitment and plan for pacing variation.

If you want exploration without another mega-marathon
Choose Hunter x Hunter. Gon’s search for his father supplies a simple reason to move forward, while the wider world keeps introducing new tests, rivals and strategic problems. It preserves the sense of discovery that attracts many One Piece viewers but asks for a much smaller initial investment.
If you want another Big Three battle franchise
Choose BLEACH. Its supernatural premise, ghostly mythology and power-driven confrontations provide a clear change of scenery without abandoning the scale and serialization associated with major shōnen hits.
If friendships and rivalry are your priority
Start with Naruto Shippuden. Its central relationships and repeated tests of loyalty are the most direct match for viewers who followed One Piece primarily for the bonds among its core cast. Hunter x Hunter is a strong second choice if you prefer relationships tested through strategy and changing rules rather than a single long-running village narrative.
If tone matters more than premise
Hunter x Hunter is the most tonally flexible option: it can move from playful exploration into dark, calculated conflict. Naruto balances humour, rivalry and war-scale drama. BLEACH emphasises supernatural combat and style. Pick according to the mood you want to sustain, not only the setting you think sounds closest.

Use a guide, but verify it
Long-running anime often include recap episodes, side stories or stretches that slow the main plot. The available official metadata establishes episode totals but does not provide a single authoritative filler count for these series. Rather than repeating an uncertain number, use a maintained viewing guide that identifies canon, mixed and optional episodes, and check when it was last updated.

Three sensible viewing plans
- Complete-first plan: Watch every episode in release order. This preserves the original broadcast rhythm and is best if you enjoy side characters, comedy and slower world-building.
- Story-focused plan: Follow a current guide and skip episodes clearly marked as optional. Keep mixed episodes when they contain canon scenes, introductions or information needed later.
- Test-before-commit plan: Sample the opening stretch of one series, then decide whether its premise and pacing fit. This avoids starting two long shows at once and abandoning both.
Do not apply a skip list made for one adaptation to another. Episode classifications can change when services reorder seasons or when a guide is updated, so identify the exact anime title and version before following instructions.
Completion expectations: finished, ongoing and adapted endpoints
One Piece remains open-ended
Toei’s U.S. catalog describes One Piece as running from 1999 and still in production, with 1,156+ episodes listed. That number will change as new episodes are released, so any comparison made later should be checked against the current catalog.
Naruto Shippuden and BLEACH offer large completed runs
Both alternatives provide a substantial body of finished television material. That makes them easier to schedule than an ongoing series: you can choose a pace, set an endpoint and know that the listed anime run is not expanding every week.
Hunter x Hunter stops earlier in anime form
The 148-episode anime is complete at its currently adapted stopping point, while VIZ also lists 38 manga volumes. Treat that endpoint as a deliberate choice: the anime delivers a meaningful quest, but it does not mirror One Piece’s continuing broadcast model.
How to start without creating a confusing watch order
Starting Naruto Shippuden
- Begin with the main Naruto Shippuden television series rather than jumping between unrelated specials.
- Choose either release order or a current filler-aware guide before you begin.
- Keep a simple note of the last completed story episode so a long break does not force a restart.
Starting Hunter x Hunter
- Start with the anime’s first episode and follow its quest in order.
- Decide in advance whether you will stop at the anime endpoint or continue with the manga.
- If you prefer print, search for the exact edition name
Hunter x Hunter 3-in-1 manga Vol. 7; VIZ lists that volume with a buy-now path.
Starting BLEACH
- Begin with the main BLEACH television run and learn its supernatural rules alongside Ichigo.
- Use a current guide if you want to separate central story material from optional detours.
- Keep the series’ different setting in mind: its appeal is the contrast between ordinary human life and the worlds of the dead.
Physical editions and ownership options
Streaming is not the only way to continue after One Piece. VIZ lists Naruto Shippuden – Part 11 on Blu-ray for viewers who prefer owning episodes. For Hunter x Hunter readers, the listed three-in-one manga edition provides a print follow-on after the anime’s adapted endpoint. VIZ also maintains an official shop with Naruto, BLEACH and Hunter x Hunter merchandise; availability, region, stock and purchase terms can change, so treat the shop listing as a catalogue reference rather than a guaranteed offer.
Final recommendation
Rank the choices by the commitment you can honestly make. Naruto Shippuden is the closest successor when you want another long, emotionally direct hero’s journey with village politics, rivalry and escalating stakes. Hunter x Hunter is the best first pick when you want adventure, exams, exploration and strategic fights in a run that is substantial but manageable. BLEACH is the answer when you want a different supernatural world while staying with a major, long-running battle franchise from the Big Three era.
There is no universal replacement for One Piece because its defining feature is the combination of scale, voyage structure and ongoing production. Pick the series whose trade-off you can live with: Naruto’s length, Hunter x Hunter’s earlier anime endpoint or BLEACH’s move away from nautical travel.
