There is no source-backed armor that is best for every Minecraft Dungeons build. Choose for the job: Full Metal Armor is a documented defensive-melee option, Splendid Robe is a guide-recommended candidate for artifact-focused play, and armor that supports rolling can suit mobility-focused builds. Your enchantments and the rest of your gear matter, too.
How to choose armor for your build
Minecraft Dungeons supports melee, ranged, and heavy-armor approaches, with customizable gear and enchantments. That makes armor a build choice, not a universal ranking: weigh survivability, melee damage or attack speed, artifact use, mobility, and any utility effect you specifically want. - Close-range survival: Look for defensive effects that let you stay in melee combat.
- Artifact-focused damage: Consider armor recommended for artifact use, then match it to the artifacts and enchantments you actually equip.
- Mobility: Rolling-related effects may matter more than raw defense if your approach depends on moving quickly.
- Utility: Some armor changes how rolls, bees, or healing work rather than simply raising damage or defense.
Published guides compare several candidates, including Wither Armor, Renegade Armor, Full Metal Armor, and Splendid Robe, but those are guide and creator recommendations—not evidence of a tested winner across builds. Armor options by role
Full Metal Armor: defensive melee
The Minecraft Wiki lists Full Metal Armor with +30% melee damage, a 30% chance to negate hits, 35% damage reduction, and a 100% increase to rolling cooldown. These are listed item effects, not independently tested performance results. The added rolling cooldown is a real trade-off if frequent rolls are central to your build. Renegade Armor and Wither Armor: candidates to compare
Secondary guides include Renegade Armor and Wither Armor among popular options, discussing different tanking, speed, and damage roles. Treat them as candidates to compare against your build rather than universal recommendations; the cited comparisons do not establish that either is best in every situation.
Splendid Robe: artifact-focused candidate
Game8 includes Splendid Robe among its strong armor options and discusses artifact reliance in its guide coverage. That makes it a candidate to investigate if artifacts are central to your damage plan, not a tested guarantee that it will outperform other armor for your setup. Game8’s armor guide.

Ghostly Armor: evasive rolling
In a September update, game director Måns described Ghostly Armor as giving incoming attacks a chance to miss, letting the player roll through enemies as if using a Ghost Cloak artifact, and significantly reducing damage during the roll. That official description makes it relevant to evasive play; it does not rank it above other armor. Minecraft Dungeons September Update.

Beenest Armor: bee and potion-area utility
The same official update says Beenest Armor can sometimes spawn bees when the player is hit and turns the health potion into an area effect. Those are distinct utility effects to consider if they fit your approach, rather than a general claim of higher damage or survivability. Minecraft Dungeons September Update.

What armor should you use for speedrunning?
For speedrunning, mobility can be more valuable than a conventional defensive ranking. Minecraft’s speedrunning feature quotes runner Mipha: “Swiftfoot actually saves more time constantly rolling than getting one Boot of Swiftness.” That is a speedrunner’s recommendation in the context of repeated rolling, not a general claim that Swiftfoot armor is best for ordinary play.
