The best trinket depends on your next activity
Trinkets are equippable boons rather than a permanent power ranking. The most useful pair for hunting is different from the pair for a shipwreck, and neither is automatically superior in every fight. The recommendations below are based on the reported effects of each item and on how long that effect remains valuable during progression. They are practical loadout choices, not an official Ubisoft tier list or the result of a controlled performance test.

Because only two trinkets can be equipped at once, changing them at the start of an activity is more effective than searching for one permanent pair. Keep a resource pair available for hunting trips, a combat pair for forts and enemy groups, and a diving pair for wreck routes.
How trinkets work in Resynced
What a trinket is
Gamer Guides describes trinkets as equippable boons found through side quests and local events, buried treasure, above-water and underwater chests, and merchants. Their effects are passive or triggered by a particular action; you do not normally activate them like a consumable. The practical question is therefore not simply which item has the strongest wording, but whether its condition matches what you will do next.

Two slots make swapping part of the system
The same guide reports that Edward can equip two trinkets at a time. Use both slots to combine effects that solve the same immediate problem, or pair a specialist effect with a general convenience effect. For example, Exotic Sea Shells plus another resource-oriented option makes sense during a long hunting route, while Diamond Trinket plus Guardian Beast Trinket covers a dive followed by dangerous travel back through hostile territory. When you leave that activity, change the pair rather than carrying an effect you are no longer using.
How to judge value
Compare every trinket on three questions:
- Task: Does the effect help resource gathering, ordinary combat, a specific enemy, diving, or recovery?
- Timing: Can you obtain it before the activity where you need it, and does the acquisition require treasure maps, a merchant, or exploration?
- Longevity: Will the effect still matter after you finish the related upgrade or progression goal?
Those questions explain why Exotic Sea Shells is a strong early recommendation without being a universal endgame winner, and why Wooden Eyeball can be excellent against Brutes while being irrelevant during a dive.
Exotic Sea Shells: the strongest early gathering pick
Effect and best use
Exotic Sea Shells increases the wildlife products Edward receives from skinning. GamesHorizon also reports that the benefit applies to targets taken with the harpoon. That makes it the most broadly useful early recommendation when you are collecting materials for crafting, outfit production, pouch upgrades, or harpoon-related resources.

The value is highest while your inventory and pouches still need materials. Once the relevant pouches are fully upgraded and your crafting backlog is complete, additional wildlife products have less practical value. At that point, replace Exotic Sea Shells with the trinket that matches your next activity instead of treating it as a permanent best-in-slot item.
Where to find it
Guide references place Exotic Sea Shells in a Havana chest. Two coordinate reports are close but not identical: 213,568 and 214,568. Treat that one-point difference as a reason to use the in-game map marker and chest icon in your current build, not as a reason to search for a third location. Coordinates can be displayed or interpreted differently across guide revisions and game versions.
When to equip it
- Before a dedicated wildlife-hunting circuit.
- Before gathering materials for an outfit or pouch upgrade.
- Before a harpoon trip when you need the resulting resources rather than simply completing the activity.
Remove it for a combat mission unless you expect to skin or harpoon targets during that same outing.
Black Pearl: the combat choice for longer takedown chains
Effect and combat role
Black Pearl lets takedowns chain to one more enemy. In a group fight, that extra link can convert one clean takedown into a sequence that removes or controls several nearby targets. GamesHorizon rates it highly for combat and notes a particularly useful interaction with swords that enable three chain takedowns. The trinket therefore rewards players who deliberately position themselves for chained executions rather than trading individual attacks.

Acquisition
Gamer Guides lists Black Pearl as a purchase from the Treasure Dealer on Great Inagua. Plan the purchase around your route: it is a merchant acquisition, not an item that appears automatically in an early chest. If the dealer is not yet part of your current progression, use a different combat setup until you can reach Great Inagua and complete the purchase.
Who should use it
- Players who rely on sword takedowns and crowd control.
- Players clearing groups where enemies stand close enough for a chain to continue.
- Players who want a combat trinket with value across many ordinary encounters rather than only against one enemy type.
Black Pearl does not improve diving, gathering, or health recovery. Its value is concentrated in fights where a second chained target is reachable.
Wooden Eyeball: a specialist answer to Brutes
Effect
Wooden Eyeball makes a quick shot kill a Brute instantly. Brutes are a specific, durable enemy category, so this is a specialist tool rather than a general-purpose replacement for Black Pearl. Equip it when the encounter contains Brutes and you can reliably land the quick shot; switch away from it when the mission has no Brutes or when another combat effect better matches the enemy group.
Treasure route
Gamer Guides lists Wooden Eyeball as buried treasure on Sacrifice Island. PC Gamer’s treasure-map instructions say the preserved map must first be restored with four map pieces, then direct you to the northwest beach at Sacrifice Island, Conttoyor (14,554). Use the restored map and the island’s in-game marker to confirm the dig area in your edition. The map-piece requirement means this is not necessarily an immediate early-game unlock even though the effect is useful as soon as Brutes become a problem.

How to build around it
- Restore the preserved map by collecting its four required map pieces.
- Travel to the northwest beach on Sacrifice Island.
- Use the map marker and the surrounding terrain to identify the dig location.
- Equip Wooden Eyeball before a mission or fort assault known to include Brutes.
- Switch back to a broader combat or utility trinket after the Brute encounter.
Do not describe Wooden Eyeball as the best combat trinket for every enemy. Its defining advantage is the instant Brute kill, and that advantage disappears when the target is absent.
Diamond Trinket: the best match for diving
Effect
Diamond Trinket slows oxygen drain underwater. It does not make Edward invulnerable or remove the need to manage his dive; it simply gives you more breathing room while searching underwater locations. That direct match makes it the sensible choice before exploring shipwrecks, especially when you expect to inspect several compartments or collect everything rather than rushing to one chest.
Location
Gamer Guides lists Diamond Trinket in an underwater chest at Cape Bonavista. Because the item is tied to an underwater chest, arrive with the dive route in mind and equip it before entering the water. If you are only passing through Cape Bonavista and do not plan to dive, use the slot for a combat or gathering effect instead.
Diving loadout advice
Pair Diamond Trinket with your second-best utility choice for the route. If hostile encounters begin immediately after the dive, a combat-oriented second slot may be more useful than another exploration effect. If the return journey is long and includes several fights, Guardian Beast Trinket can cover recovery once you are safely out of combat.

Guardian Beast Trinket: recovery between fights
Effect and limitation
Guardian Beast Trinket slowly regenerates health while Edward is out of combat. It is most useful during exploration routes with repeated skirmishes, where a short safe pause can restore some health before the next encounter. The effect is gradual, so it is not a substitute for surviving the active fight, an emergency heal, or a strategy for avoiding damage.
Confirmed treasure and reported location
Ubisoft’s official Resynced deep dive specifically identifies this item as treasure on Dry Tortuga: “keep an eye out for the Guardian Beast Trinket on Dry Tortuga, for example.” Gamer Guides places it in an underwater chest at an unmarked Dry Tortuga island and gives coordinates of 356,701. Ubisoft confirms the treasure’s existence and island; the effect and coordinate details come from independent guide references.
When it earns a slot
- Long land routes where fights are separated by safe spaces.
- Exploration after a difficult encounter when you want to recover without spending another resource.
- Loadouts for players who take occasional damage but prefer steady recovery to aggressive chain takedowns.
During a concentrated assault where every second is spent in combat, its out-of-combat condition may provide little benefit. In that situation, use Black Pearl or Wooden Eyeball according to the enemies present.
Lodestone: useful convenience, lower priority
What it does
GamesHorizon reports that Lodestone automatically loots nearby corpses and small curios. It reduces manual pickup and can make a route feel smoother, particularly after a crowded fight or while sweeping a settlement for minor collectibles. It does not extend takedown chains, improve resource yield, slow oxygen loss, or restore health.

Gamer Guides lists Lodestone for purchase from the Great Inagua General Store after a level 2 upgrade. The upgrade condition makes it a planned convenience purchase rather than an item to assume is available at the beginning of a new save.
Choose Lodestone when reducing collection friction is your priority and the other slot is already handling the mission’s main risk. Replace it with a task-specific trinket when you need a measurable advantage against a Brute, underwater time pressure, or a resource shortage.

Early crafting and hunting
Equip Exotic Sea Shells in one slot. Use the second slot for whichever effect addresses the route’s danger: Guardian Beast Trinket for recovery between encounters, or Lodestone if the trip involves a great deal of corpse and curiosity collection. The first slot does the material work; the second should solve the practical inconvenience you expect next.

General sword combat
Black Pearl is the anchor choice. Pair it with Guardian Beast Trinket if the fight is part of a long exploration route, or with Wooden Eyeball when Brutes are known to appear. Do not spend the second slot on a gathering trinket simply because you own it; its effect will not help the active combat problem.
Brute-heavy encounter
Use Wooden Eyeball and then choose between Black Pearl and Guardian Beast Trinket. Black Pearl is better when several ordinary enemies surround the Brute and can be chained. Guardian Beast Trinket is better when the encounter is one part of a longer route and you expect safe pauses afterward.
Underwater wreck route
Diamond Trinket should occupy one slot. Select the second slot based on what happens after surfacing: Guardian Beast Trinket for recovery during the return journey, Black Pearl for immediate enemy groups, or Exotic Sea Shells only if the same trip also includes wildlife or harpoon harvesting.
Loot sweep and cleanup
Lodestone can occupy one slot when the aim is convenience rather than combat optimization. Pair it with Black Pearl in a settlement likely to produce fights, or with Guardian Beast Trinket on a long exploration route. If the sweep includes a known resource shortage, Exotic Sea Shells usually has a more meaningful effect than automatic pickup.
How to plan your acquisition route
Trinkets come from several source types, so availability is not uniform. Use the route that matches the item rather than assuming every recommended trinket is found in a chest near the start.

Side quests, local events, buried treasure, above-water chests, underwater chests, and merchants all appear among the reported acquisition routes. Check the named route before promising yourself an early unlock, particularly for items tied to a map, a store level, or a remote island.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Looking for one permanent best trinket
The effects are deliberately specialized. Keeping Exotic Sea Shells equipped during a combat mission wastes a slot once your material needs are met; keeping Diamond Trinket equipped on land provides no oxygen benefit. Revisit the pair whenever the activity changes.
Treating an editorial tier list as an official rating
Independent guides may rank items by usefulness, but Ubisoft has not published an official trinket ranking. The strongest defensible recommendation is conditional: choose the effect that addresses the immediate task, then account for acquisition effort and whether your progression still needs the benefit.
Assuming coordinates are permanent
The Havana chest reports for Exotic Sea Shells differ by one coordinate, and guide maps may be revised after updates or may display positions differently. Use the island name, chest type, map marker, and surrounding terrain together. If a coordinate does not place you directly on the chest, search the indicated area rather than concluding that the item was removed.
Ignoring the acquisition gate
Black Pearl and Lodestone are merchant purchases with named Great Inagua requirements, while Wooden Eyeball depends on a restored map. A trinket can be the right answer for your playstyle and still be unavailable on your current route. Carry the best accessible substitute until the gate is cleared.
What is and is not established about performance
No relevant published numerical trinket-performance statistic or independently verifiable test establishes percentage bonuses, exact time saved underwater, or a universal damage ranking. The available figures in the guide material are item counts and in-game coordinates, not publisher performance measurements. For that reason, this article uses the reported qualitative effects and does not assign invented percentages or claim that one item wins every scenario.
The practical ranking is therefore activity-based. Exotic Sea Shells is the strongest broadly useful early resource recommendation in the reviewed comparisons; Black Pearl, Wooden Eyeball, Diamond Trinket, and Guardian Beast Trinket each solve a distinct combat, enemy, diving, or recovery problem; and Lodestone is primarily a convenience pick. Your progression, route, and preferred combat style determine which two are best at any given moment.
