What’s actually slowing this PC down?

There is no evidence-based universal winner among Balatro mods: the right pick depends on whether you want more cards, a shop-planning aid, or a small interface change. For more content, start by comparing Holy Fools, Mika’s Mod Collection, and Pokermon; for convenience, consider Lock the Deal or SystemClock. These are examples from an editorial roundup, not a tested ranking or popularity contest.
Which Balatro mods should you check first?
Choose by the change you want to make to a run. The figures below describe what the PCGamesN roundup reports for each mod; they are not independent measurements of quality, balance, or current compatibility.
| Goal | Mod | What it adds | Consider before installing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Try literature-themed Jokers | Holy Fools | 30 Jokers inspired by classic literature. | The roundup’s praise and “best” judgment are editorial opinions, not results from comparative testing. PCGamesN |
| Add a broad mix of content | Mika’s Mod Collection | 60 Jokers, two Tarot cards, an additional Spectral card, and new deck types. | Confirm the project’s current release status and compatibility before downloading. PCGamesN |
| Build around a large crossover collection | Pokermon | More than 200 new Jokers, plus an option described for playing exclusively with the Pokermon deck. | A collection this large can substantially change balance and run variety; whether that is desirable is a matter of taste. PCGamesN |
| Keep a shop item available | Lock the Deal | Lets you lock a shop item until you can afford it. | It changes the game’s resource and planning feel. PCGamesN |
| See the time while playing | SystemClock | Adds a customizable clock overlay to the interface. | Check the current mod page for requirements. PCGamesN |
Use these as a shortlist, not a definitive tier list. To compare mods for yourself, consider how much content they add, how closely they fit the base game’s style, whether they change rules or balance, and whether their current requirements match your setup.
What do you need to install Balatro mods?
Steamodded describes itself as a Balatro mod loader and injector. Its repository gives the basic installation model: put each mod file or folder in the game’s Mods directory, then launch the game. Follow the instructions for the specific mod and loader rather than assuming every mod uses the same folder layout. Steamodded repository

How to install mods with fewer surprises
- Check the loader first. Read the current Steamodded instructions for your operating system and confirm that your Balatro edition is supported. Steamodded installation wiki
- Back up your save. Keep a copy somewhere outside the game’s active save location before changing files.
- Read the mod maintainer’s notes. Confirm the supported Balatro version, dependencies, required folder structure, and installation steps. Prefer maintainer-controlled repositories or releases over rehosted archives.
- Add one mod at a time. Launch the game and check that it works before adding another; this makes it easier to identify the cause if the game crashes or a save behaves unexpectedly.
- Record what you installed. Note each mod’s exact version and check its current release notes if you run into a problem.
These precautions follow the setup guidance from Balatro HQ, which also recommends checking mod pages for issues that mention crashes or save problems.

Can you use Balatro mods in multiplayer?
Approval depends on the multiplayer project and mode. Balatro Multiplayer maintains an approved-mod list, groups mods such as quality-of-life and cosmetic additions, and identifies requirements for ranked or queue play. Check its current list and rules for the mode you intend to join; approval there should not be treated as permission for every multiplayer setup. Balatro Multiplayer approved mods
