The best Baldur’s Gate 3 mods depend on what you want to change: smoother movement, clearer menus, a different party size, more combat variety, or a fresh look for your character. Start with the recommendations below that fit your play style, then check each mod’s live page for platform availability, dependencies, and compatibility with your current game version. Mod availability and support differ by platform, and some mods materially change balance.
How to choose the right BG3 mods
Think in terms of the playthrough you want, not a universal ranking. Interface and cosmetic mods can be relatively low-impact; party-size, spell, progression, and enemy mods can change difficulty or how encounters are built. Before installing, check the mod’s current instructions and compatibility notes, whether it depends on other mods, and whether everyone in your multiplayer group can use the same version.
- For comfort: start with movement, camera, or inventory changes.
- For build variety: consider spell additions, while accounting for balance changes.
- For a different campaign rhythm: look at party-size or encounter mods.
- For appearance: choose dice, outfit, dye, character-head, or screenshot-location options.
Quality-of-life and interface mods
WASD Movement
WASD Movement is aimed at players who prefer direct keyboard movement over point-and-click navigation. It changes how you move through the world, so check its current controls and compatibility before adding it.
Hybrid UI
Hybrid UI is the controller-oriented option in PC Gamer’s mod roundup. It may suit players switching between control styles or wanting an interface adapted for controller play. Confirm that the current version supports your setup.
#1 Best Overall
- Online multiplayer for up to four players - allows you to combine your forces in combat, and split your party to follow your own quests and agendas. Concoct the perfect plan together… or introduce an element of chaos when your friends least expect it
- Origin Character - offer a hand-crafted experience, each with their own unique traits, agenda, and outlook on the world. Their stories intersect with the entire narrative, and your choices will determine whether those stories end in redemption, salvation, domination, or many other outcomes
- Evolved turn-based combat - based on the D&D 5e ruleset. Team-based initiative, advantage & disadvantage, and roll modifiers join combat cameras, expanded environmental interactions, and a new fluidity in combat that rewards strategy and foresight
- Define the future of the Forgotten Realms - through your choices, and the roll of the dice. No matter who you play, or what you roll, the world and its inhabitants will react to your story
- Player-initiated turn-based mode - allows you to pause the world around you at any time even outside of combat. Whether you see an opportunity for a tactical advantage before combat begins, want to pull off a heist with pin-point precision, or need to escape a fiendish trap. Split your party, prepare ambushes, sneak in the darkness -- create your own luck!
Native Camera Tweaks
Native Camera Tweaks offers camera adjustments, including a CRPG-style tilt, according to PC Gamer’s mod guide. This is a presentation preference, not a universal visual upgrade; use it if the changed perspective works better for you.
Better Inventory UI and Better Containers
For less inventory friction, PC Gamer recommends Better Inventory UI and Better Containers. The guide highlights readability improvements such as rarity colors and visible book-read status. These are quality-of-life choices rather than a new campaign premise, but check the live mod pages for supported game versions and any dependencies.
Gameplay changes: party size, spells, and difficulty
Lone Wolf or Party Size Begone
These are alternatives for players who want to rethink party composition. Lone Wolf is framed as a one- or two-character run with buffs; Party Size Begone raises the party limit, and PC Gamer’s guide specifies it for single-player. Both can alter encounter balance and the feel of combat. Verify current requirements before installing, and do not assume they are interchangeable or suitable for multiplayer.
5e Spells
5e Spells adds spells drawn from tabletop Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, as described by PC Gamer. It is a fit for players seeking more build options, but added abilities can shift balance. Check which version is current and whether the mod lists required dependencies.

These mods are best treated as deliberate difficulty or progression changes, not neutral upgrades:
- Expansion Level 13–20: extends progression beyond the game’s usual level range.
- Feat Every Level: changes the cadence of character customization and power growth.
- Carry Weight Increased: reduces inventory capacity pressure.
- EasyCheat: offers convenience or power options that can substantially lower challenge.
PC Gamer’s roundup lists these options, but their current compatibility and exact effects should be confirmed on their mod pages. Mods that increase character power or remove constraints can affect the intended difficulty curve.
Mods for replay variety and more encounters
Many More Monsters
Many More Monsters adds enemies, offering a way to vary encounters. PC Gamer noted that the mod had not been updated for a while; that is a reason to inspect its live page and recent compatibility information rather than assuming it works with the current game.

Camp Event Overhaul
Camp Event Overhaul targets camp scenes that players may otherwise miss, particularly in Act 1, according to PC Gamer. It is worth considering if you want more camp-event coverage, but check whether it affects an existing save or requires a fresh playthrough.

Hunted adds reactive ambushes and revenge encounters, as described in the roundup. Expect a more interruptive and potentially more difficult journey; verify current version notes and compatibility before using it alongside other encounter mods.
Visual customization and screenshots
Dice, outfits, and grime
Custom Dice changes dice appearance. Transmog Enhanced Revamped focuses on outfit styling, while Unsoiled changes grime or dirt presentation. These primarily affect aesthetics, though outfit-related mods may have dependencies or particular installation requirements.
Dyes and character appearance
Faerun Colours and Faces of Faerun offer ways to customize dyes and character heads. PC Gamer describes Faerun Colours as offering more than 90 dyes with infinite uses; treat that as the guide’s description and confirm the current listing before relying on the count or availability.
Photobooth
Photobooth adds screenshot locations, according to PC Gamer. It suits players who want staged portraits or scenery shots more than a change to combat or progression.
Which BG3 mods work on console?
Do not assume a mod available on PC is available on console. Larian’s Official Mod Support FAQ advises players moving saves between platforms to check whether their chosen mods are available on both. Availability depends on the specific mod and platform; check the in-game Mod Manager and the mod’s listing rather than relying on a PC guide alone.
Larian introduced an in-game Mod Manager with Patch 7. Its separate Toolkit is a PC-only creator tool, not something ordinary players need to install supported mods. The Toolkit requires 160 GB of available space, according to Larian’s FAQ.
Rank #3
- Experience the pivotal game of the Persona series faithfully remade with cutting-edge graphics, modernized quality-of-life features, and signature stylish UI.
- Fully immerse yourself in an emotional, gripping journey with new scenes and character interactions, additional voiceover, and a reloaded soundtrack.
- Choose how to meaningfully spend each day through various activities from exploring the Port Island to forging genuine bonds with beloved characters.
- Build and command your optimal team to take down otherworldly Shadows and climb closer to the truth.
How to install Baldur’s Gate 3 mods
Use the method the mod author specifies. Larian’s in-game manager is the route for officially supported mods; other PC mods may use a third-party manager, manual .pak files, or loose files. PC Gamer describes these routes, but Larian is the authority on what it officially supports.
- Check the mod page first. Confirm platform, game-version compatibility, dependencies, and whether the mod is available through the in-game manager.
- For supported mods, open Baldur’s Gate 3’s in-game Mod Manager. Browse and install the mod there. The Installed tab can be used to update supported mods.
- For third-party PC mods, follow the author’s exact installation instructions. PC Gamer’s guide covers BG3 Mod Manager, manual .pak installation, and loose-file installation; loose files may require preserving the folder structure.
- If using BG3 Mod Manager, export the load order to the game. The manager’s load order does not take effect simply because it appears in the tool.
- Launch the game and check for problems before continuing a long save. If a game update or another mod causes issues, disable mods to see whether the problem persists.
Larian says it can officially support mods through mod.io, while other modding options exist outside that support route. Community Update #27 states: “We’ll therefore have two choices for modding Baldur’s Gate 3, but we’ll only be able to officially support mods through mod.io.” See Larian’s Community Update #27. A third-party installation method does not mean Larian can manage or fix that mod.

Multiplayer requires matching mod setups
Larian Studios’ Official Mod Support FAQ says: “If you are playing Multiplayer with mods, both you and your party will need to have the exact same mods installed, and they must be on the same version.” Agree on the mod list and versions before starting or loading a multiplayer session.
Game updates can disrupt mods
Larian recommends keeping mods updated and warns that game updates can create issues. Before updating or loading a modded save, check whether the mod has been updated for the current game version. If something breaks, Larian’s Mod Issues guidance recommends disabling mods to test whether the issue remains. Some third-party mods may also require inspecting or clearing files after major updates; follow the mod author’s directions.
Moving a save between platforms
Larian cautions that cross-platform saves may not be compatible when game versions differ, and advises checking mod availability on both platforms. A save relying on a mod unavailable on the destination platform may not behave as expected, so confirm compatibility before transferring it.
Where to verify current mod details
Mod listings and compatibility can change. Start with the in-game Mod Manager for supported offerings, then consult the individual mod page for its latest instructions and dependencies. For PC third-party options, the Nexus Mods Baldur’s Gate 3 hub is one place to browse; a hub listing alone does not certify that a particular mod works with your version of the game.
