There is no single best Battle Art for every weapon and fight in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. The practical choice depends on whether you need to interrupt danger, control a crowd, damage an officer’s Fortitude, or create an opening for an Assault. Use the recommendations below as purpose-specific player guidance, not an official ranking: the game’s publisher has not published a Battle Art tier list or comparative performance results.
How to choose a Battle Art
Repeated attacks build Bravery, which you spend to unleash weapon-specific Arts. The publisher describes Arts as powerful attacks that vary by weapon, and notes that they can reduce an officer’s Fortitude. Lower Fortitude weakens an officer and creates an opportunity to attack; an Assault can then deal massive damage. See KOEI TECMO’s combat system overview.

Choose a loadout for coverage rather than filling every slot with an expensive damage move. Depending on your weapon and available Arts, look for a way to handle each of these jobs:
- Interrupt or counter: useful when an enemy’s attack is dangerous and you need to regain control.
- Control a crowd: favors broad reach or attacks that hit multiple enemies.
- Pressure an officer: prioritize damage and Fortitude reduction if your goal is to create an Assault opportunity.
Compare the Bravery cost with the Art’s expected damage or utility; mastery and equipment can affect the effective cost. Also account for reliability: a close-range grab needs proximity, while a long animation may leave you vulnerable to an unblockable attack. Unlock requirements matter too. Arts may depend on weapon proficiency, a bond, a challenge, DLC, or later progression.

Recommended Arts by combat goal
These examples come from community-authored guides, not controlled tests or publisher rankings. One guide, updated April 26, 2026, frames its recommendations around Ultimate Warrior difficulty while saying they apply to other difficulties; another, version 1.3 and updated April 27, 2026, cautions that some of its opinions may be wrong or less than optimal. Treat each pick as a starting point and adapt it to your weapon, unlocks, and the enemy in front of you.
| Weapon or goal | Art | Why consider it | Constraint to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Most weapons; counter utility | Aerial Retribution | The Steam guide presents it as a low-cost option for most weapons; after mastery, its shockwave can stagger nearby officers. | The guide excludes Bow and Lance. It also recommends canceling the launch animation with a dodge, so account for that input and timing. |
| Spear; officer pressure | Dragon Flash | The guide author describes heavy damage and Fortitude damage, often enough to make officers assaultable, including in late-game, high-difficulty play. | This is a guide author’s assessment, not a measured guarantee; it is a Spear option rather than a universal pick. |
| Sword; groups and officers | Divine Eagle Dance | The guide describes a 360-degree, multi-hit attack with slowdown, range, damage, and Fortitude pressure, making it a candidate for mixed groups of soldiers and officers. | Its suitability still depends on whether the situation rewards a broad multi-hit attack over a more specialized option. |
| Staff; area coverage and stagger | Furious Tiger Dance | The guide describes a powerful area move with stagger follow-up potential. Koei Tecmo’s March 2025 update independently confirms that the Art gained an enemy-stagger effect. | Older descriptions may not reflect that update. See the official update log. |
| Bow; area attack | Glacial Shot | The guide describes a large-area ice attack. | It is unlocked through a DLC Training Ground trial. |
| Bow; damage over time | Inferno Shot | The guide describes a fire trail that continues to deal damage over time, a different use from Glacial Shot’s area ice attack. | Choose it for the fire-trail effect rather than assuming it is the stronger Bow Art in every fight. |
| Rope Dart; damage | Lunar Maelstrom | The guide calls it the weapon’s highest-damage Battle Art and describes it as having a large area. | An enemy’s unblockable attack can interrupt it, making it risky to use without an opening. |
| Crescent Blade; close-range damage | Great Mountain Throw | The guide describes high damage and Fortitude impact. | It is a close-range grab, so the target must be within reach. |
Weapon availability and DLC
The base-game system overview lists Sword, Spear, Gauntlets, Wheels, Podao, Staff, Twin Pikes, Lance, and Crescent Blade. The Visions of Four Heroes DLC adds Bow and Rope Dart, as well as new Arts for existing weapons. The added Arts therefore broaden the options available to DLC owners; Bow and Rope Dart recommendations do not apply to a base-game-only weapon roster. See the publisher’s DLC details.
Rank #2
- The most exhilarating action in the series’ history.
- In a world of chaos, a nameless hero rises.
- DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS is a tactical action game set during ancient China's "Three Kingdoms" period.
- Players will play as a warrior who has lost his memories and must navigate the chaos of the era, from the "Yellow Turban Rebellion" to the "Battle of Chibi".
- Experience the realistic battlefields with massive soldiers and lead your allies to victory as you battle as 1 vs. 1,000.
Check version notes before relying on older descriptions
Patch changes can affect what an Art does. In its March 19/21, 2025 update, Koei Tecmo made the Staff’s continuous strong attack more potent and gave Furious Tiger Dance an enemy-stagger effect. The February 21, 2025 update fixed issues affecting the Crescent Blade Arts Adamantine Flesh and Azure Dragon Bellow, and unintended damage when certain Arts were canceled with Special-effect Arts. For exact changes, consult the official update log rather than relying on an older guide’s description.
Build around the fight, not a universal tier list
For a dangerous enemy, favor an Art that can interrupt or counter; against a packed group, prioritize reach and area coverage; against an officer, look for Fortitude damage that can set up an Assault. Then check that the Art belongs to your equipped weapon, that you have unlocked it, and that its Bravery cost and animation risk make sense for the opening you have. The official system guidance likewise distinguishes Arts for dangerous enemies from those suited to crowds.
