These are different editions of a coordinate-guessing game—not deep naval-warfare simulations.

Specifications are from Hasbro’s product information and instructions; they describe what each edition includes, not comparative quality or independent ratings. Component colors and counts differ between the Classic and Folio pages, so they should not be treated as interchangeable. Hasbro does not state a player count or age recommendation on the cited Folio page.
Best starting point: Battleship Classic
Battleship Classic (F4527) is the clearest choice for anyone seeking the familiar head-to-head game. Each player positions a fleet in secret, calls coordinates, and tracks hits and misses while trying to locate and sink the other player’s ships. The fleet includes an aircraft carrier, destroyer, submarine, patrol boat and battleship.
Hasbro lists a Salvo option for advanced play, giving experienced players another way to approach turns. The central challenge remains deduction from coordinate calls, rather than commanding ships through a detailed naval simulation.

Best for travel: Battleship Game Folio Edition
Battleship Game Folio Edition (42879) is the portability pick. Its zip-around case contains ocean and target grids, and Hasbro says the pieces stay in place during travel and play. It uses classic play rather than presenting a separate strategic ruleset, making the folio a practical choice when compact storage matters more than electronic features.
Best for lights, sounds and solo play: Electronic Battleship
Electronic Battleship (F7565) is the option for players who want sound and light effects, voice commands, special attacks or practice against the game in solo play. It offers up to 64 preset layouts as well as a custom layout option; those additions broaden the ways to set up a game, but do not establish that this edition is strategically superior.

Themed pick: Star Wars Battleship
Star Wars Battleship (B2358) swaps the ocean for space. Players take an X-wing or TIE Fighter role and hunt an opposing starship fleet. It is a two-player game listed for ages 7 and up, with space grids, plastic ships and bases, hit/miss pegs and instructions. Pick it for the licensed setting, not for a more nautical theme.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What these games offer—and what they do not
All four choices are variations on Battleship’s hidden-placement and search premise, with edition-specific changes to storage, effects, solo play or theme. The official product pages establish features and intended audiences; they do not establish which edition is most popular, best-rated, or most strategically deep. If you mean historical naval combat or a more operational fleet simulation by “nautical strategy,” this selection should not be read as a comprehensive roundup of that broader genre.
