The Dishonored access statement is historical; a subscription catalog can change, so check the current catalog before treating it as a way to play today. If the original article or message you saw names a different event, use that game as the starting point and treat the recommendations below as alternatives rather than replacements.

Both are sensible answers for someone seeking a solo Fallout experience, but the official descriptions point to different starting contexts rather than a definitive winner. The choice should follow the setting and era you want to enter.
Fallout 3: the open-wastes starting point
Bethesda describes Fallout 3 as an exploration game set in open wastes more than 200 years after nuclear war. That framing makes it the direct alternative if the missed free promotion was the 2022 Epic Games Store offer. The giveaway covered the Game of the Year Edition and its downloadable expansions during the October 20–27, 2022 window; that historical promotion has ended.
Choose Fallout 3 when the appeal is entering an older, deliberately devastated landscape and discovering what is beyond the next ridge. It is a solo choice, so it avoids the persistent-player issue that can make Fallout 76 unsuitable for someone who wants a private campaign.

If your decision is between Starfield and DOOM: The Dark Ages, ask whether you want to spend time shaping a role-playing character and exploring a science-fiction setting, or whether you want a focused combat-driven experience. Neither choice is evidence that the October 2022 giveaway has returned.

You want a classic solo wasteland

You want to replay the exact free game
