Short answer: GPORTAL and Gravel Host are the only currently verified managed hosts in the available evidence. Four other routes—self-managed VPS, home hosting, Nitrado pending confirmation, and Game Host Bros’ unreleased product—are alternatives, not equivalent active recommendations. Prices below were checked in August 2026, so they do not recreate an April 2026 snapshot.
What you are actually hosting
Black Mesa’s retail client is separate from the Black Mesa Dedicated Server tool. SteamDB identifies that tool as App ID 346680, a Source Engine server for Windows and Linux. Its files use the bms game directory and launch through srcds.exe -steam -game bms. See the current configuration record at SteamDB.
A normal dedicated instance can run Deathmatch. Cooperative play is different: SourceCoop adds scripts, plugins and maps that a vanilla server does not provide. A host must therefore allow custom files, suitable startup commands and plugin installation.

How these recommendations were judged
The ranking gives most weight to proof that the provider supports Black Mesa itself, not merely another Source game. Management tools, custom-file permissions, co-op compatibility, network and location information, transparent pricing, and recovery support are secondary criteria. Marketing statements such as “high performance” or DDoS protection are reported as vendor claims, not independent measurements.

1. GPORTAL — best verified turnkey option
GPORTAL has a dedicated Black Mesa Source hosting page and lists the game in its server catalog. That direct product evidence makes it the clearest choice for a conventional Deathmatch server.
The catalog showed a starting price of $2.71 per three days when checked in August 2026. This is not directly comparable with a monthly plan: confirm currency, renewal pricing, slot limits, taxes and the exact billing term at checkout.
Choose it when
- You want a managed panel rather than operating SteamCMD yourself.
- Your priority is a straightforward Deathmatch server.
- You can confirm file access and launch-parameter controls before ordering.
Limitations
The available listing does not establish guaranteed CPU resources, SourceCoop support, shell access or custom-plugin policy. Ask support whether App ID 346680 is installed, whether FTP or a file manager is included, and whether SourceCoop files are permitted.
2. Gravel Host — best for custom maps and modded co-op
Gravel Host’s Black Mesa page offers plans starting at $2.99/month for 2 GB RAM (Anomaly), with Lambda at $5.99 for 4 GB, HEV at $8.99 for 6 GB, and Resonance at $11.99 for 8 GB. These are product tiers, not official Black Mesa hardware requirements.
Rank #2
- HERO Gaming Sensor: Next generation HERO mouse sensor delivers precision tracking up to 25600 DPI with zero smoothing, filtering or acceleration
- 11 programmable buttons and dual mode hyper-fast scroll wheel: The Logitech wired gaming mouse gives you fully customizable control over your gameplay
- Adjustable weights: Match your playing style. Arrange up to five 3.6 g weights for a personalized weight and balance configuration
- LIGHTSYNC technology: Logitech G LIGHTSYNC technology provides fully customizable RGB lighting that can also synchronize with your gaming (requires Logitech Gaming Software)
- Mechanical Switch Button Tensioning: A metal spring tensioning system and metal pivot hinges are built into left and right computer gaming mouse buttons for a crisp, clean click feel with rapid click feedback
The vendor advertises instant deployment, FTP and file-manager access, mod support, DDoS protection, daily backups and locations in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Treat each as a provider claim; the page does not provide independent latency, uptime or restore testing.
Choose it when
- You need to upload maps, plugins or SourceCoop files.
- You want a Black Mesa-specific product rather than a generic Source template.
- You value selectable regions and a lower monthly entry price.
Limitations
Confirm CPU allocation, backup retention, restoration procedure, update behavior and whether custom files survive reinstalls. A host can advertise backups without covering external databases or files outside the game directory.
3. Self-managed VPS — best control alternative
A VPS can run the same server tool, but you install and maintain everything. A community SourceCoop document uses this SteamCMD pattern:
steamcmd.exe +force_install_dir <SavePath> +login anonymous +app_update 346680 validate
This command is documented at the SourceCoop guide, not by Valve as an official Black Mesa support statement. You remain responsible for the operating system, firewall, updates, backups, monitoring and incident recovery.

- Next-gen 12,000 DPI HERO optical sensor delivers unrivaled gaming performance, accuracy and power efficiency
- Advanced LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mouse for super-fast 1 ms response time and faster than wired performance
- Ultra-long battery life gives you up to 250 hours of continuous gaming on a single AA battery
- Lightweight mechanical design and classic shape for maximum maneuverability, durability and comfort
- Compact, portable design with convenient built-in storage for included USB wireless receiver
Best use
Choose a VPS when you need custom startup scripts, several instances or unrestricted plugin access and can administer Windows or Linux. It is not a turnkey recommendation and no particular VPS vendor or price is established here.
4. Home-hosted PC — lowest recurring cost
Running the dedicated tool at home avoids a hosting subscription. It suits a small private group if the computer can remain online and your connection has adequate upload capacity. You must handle router forwarding, firewall rules, updates, crashes, backups and your public IP address. Residential outages and changing addresses make this a poor default for a public community.
Ports and safety
A community setup guide recommends TCP and UDP 27015 plus UDP 27005, but actual ports depend on configuration and provider assignments. Never expose RCON without a unique strong password and appropriate firewall restrictions.
5. Game Host Bros — future option, not available now
Game Host Bros lists Black Mesa as Coming Soon with a prospective $7.99/month price. Until that status changes, it cannot be ranked as a purchasable host. Recheck the catalog if you are building a shortlist later.

6. Nitrado — only after direct confirmation
Nitrado publishes a broad catalog at its server site and general help at its support portal, but the checked material does not verify a Black Mesa listing. Support generic claims about many games, instant setup or locations are not proof of App ID 346680 support.
Questions to send support
- Can you install Steam App ID 346680, and which operating systems are offered?
- Do I receive FTP/SFTP or file-manager access and control over launch parameters?
- Are SourceMod, SourceCoop, custom DLLs and custom maps allowed?
- What port is assigned, and can I change location later?
- What is the renewal price, backup retention and restore process?
Setting up Deathmatch
A Steam Community guide gives this Windows example:
srcds.exe -console -game bms +ip 192.168.1.107 +map dm_crossfire +maxplayers 32 -port 27015
The private address, map, player count and port are examples, not universal values. Replace them with the server’s actual interface, desired map and provider-assigned port. The guide is available at Steam Community.
Typical configuration entries include:
hostname "Your Black Mesa Server"
rcon_password "CREATE_A_UNIQUE_SECRET"
sv_password ""
sv_lan 0
sv_cheats 0
mp_autoteambalance 1
mp_friendlyfire 0
sv_region 255
Do not reuse sample passwords. A setting such as +maxplayers 32 is not a performance guarantee; public capacity depends on CPU headroom, network stability and the chosen maps.

Adding cooperative play with SourceCoop
SourceCoop is a separate project. Its repository at GitHub documents automated installation and these launch scripts:
# Windows
cd "Black Mesa Dedicated Server"
./srcds_coop.bat
# Linux
cd "Black Mesa Dedicated Server"
./srcds_coop.sh
Before installation, confirm that the host allows scripts, plugins and map uploads. If co-op fails, inspect logs, validate App ID 346680, check that client and server versions match, reinstall required maps and ask whether panel updates overwrite custom files. The repository’s scripts and compatibility should be checked against its current documentation before deployment.
Common connection and deployment failures
The panel lists Black Mesa but deployment fails
The template may be stale, install the wrong Source game, hide required launch parameters or lack required libraries. Ask support to confirm the exact App ID and startup command rather than relying on a logo or generic Source support.
Players cannot join
- Ensure
sv_lan 0is set. - Use the public server address, not a private LAN address.
- Check provider ports, firewall rules and cloud security groups.
- Verify client and server builds and test both the browser and direct connection.
Backups are not a complete recovery plan
Ask what is included, how often snapshots run, how long they are retained and whether a restore has actually been tested. External databases, integrations and recently changed files may be outside the game-directory backup.
Recommended Free Tools
Which option fits your server?
- Small vanilla Deathmatch: start with GPORTAL after confirming the panel and billing details.
- SourceCoop or custom maps: Gravel Host is the most directly relevant managed listing, but verify plugin and script permissions.
- Several instances or unusual automation: use a self-managed VPS if you can maintain it.
- Private sessions with no monthly budget: home hosting is viable when port forwarding and uptime are acceptable.
- Considering Game Host Bros or Nitrado: wait for an active Black Mesa listing or obtain written confirmation first.
Bottom line
For an immediately purchasable managed server, GPORTAL has the clearest direct Black Mesa listing, while Gravel Host offers the strongest stated file and mod access for players planning SourceCoop or custom maps. The market does not support six verified active specialist hosts: VPS and home hosting are self-managed methods, Game Host Bros is still “Coming Soon,” and Nitrado remains unverified for this game. Confirm App ID 346680 support, custom-file policy, renewal cost and recovery details before paying.
