There isn’t one universally best Naoe build in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Build around the encounter: use Assassin and Hidden Blade bonuses for stealth takedowns, weapon abilities for isolated fights, or the Kusarigama and tools to control a group and escape. Naoe can quickly eliminate a lone enemy, but her limited combat resources and lack of armor make prolonged fights against several enemies risky.
Choose a Naoe build for the fight ahead
These are build frameworks, not verified best-in-slot loadouts. The available official guidance doesn’t establish a numerical damage ranking or name one loadout as strongest. Use the gear you have, keep it upgraded, and choose stats and perks that support the job you need it to do.
| Build direction | Best suited to | Core choices | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stealth assassin | Infiltration and planned takedowns | Assassin and Hidden Blade upgrades; assassination-damage bonuses; Tanto with its double-assassination skill when paired takedowns are useful | Assassinations can fail to kill when the target’s health, level, or circumstances exceed your damage threshold |
| Agile single-target combat | A duel or an isolated enemy | Weapon abilities and perks that support posture attacks, critical damage, armor breaking, or ability effects | Does not make Naoe a durable front-line fighter against a crowd |
| Crowd control and recovery | Creating space, interrupting several enemies, or reaching a target at range | Kusarigama for reach and pushback; kunai for lethal headshots against many unarmored enemies | Control and escape matter more than sustained damage; shuriken are better for stuns or distractions than as a damage foundation |
Stealth assassin: make takedowns more reliable
Invest in Assassin and Hidden Blade upgrades, then look for gear bonuses that increase assassination damage. Before committing to a target, check the HUD indicator: white means the assassination is guaranteed to kill, yellow means it will deal partial damage, and red means the assassination is denied. Target health and level, upgrades, gear bonuses, and circumstances such as an air attack or nighttime can affect the result.
Pair the Tanto with its dedicated double-assassination skill when two nearby targets can be eliminated efficiently. Ubisoft’s stealth guidance also recommends using Observe to mark targets and Eagle Vision to detect enemies behind obstacles. Crouching, prone movement, darkness, smoke bombs, bells, and kunai can help you control how and when you engage.

If you prefer to remove the assassination health threshold altogether, the game has a one-shot assassination option that lets you assassinate any enemy regardless of its health bar. That changes the challenge rules; it isn’t a result of gear or skill progression.
Agile single-target combat: punish an opening
For a direct fight against one opponent, shape weapon abilities and perks around a damage loop you can execute consistently. Options include posture attacks, critical damage, armor breaking, and effects from active abilities. Ubisoft describes abilities that can close distance, break armor, or regenerate health, and notes that conditions such as a perfect dodge can create vulnerability windows.

- ENTER FEUDAL JAPAN - Explore the captivating open world of feudal Japan, from spectacular castle towns and bustling ports to peaceful shrines and war-ravaged landscapes. Adventure through unpredictable weather, changing seasons, and reactive environments.
- MASTER COMPLEMENTARY PLAYSTYLES - Become Naoe, a shinobi Assassin, and Yasuke, a legendary samurai, as you experience their riveting stories and master their complementary playstyles. As Naoe, use stealth to avoid detection and agility to confound your enemies. As Yasuke, strike your foes with lethal precision and power. Unlock new skills, gear, and progression independently for each character.
- MAKE INFORMATION YOUR WEAPON - Travel the world and build your own network of spies to be your eyes and ears across locations to hunt down your next target. Along the way, recruit new allies with unique abilities to help accomplish your missions
- BUILD A PLACE TO CALL HOME - Create a fully customizable hideout for your growing shinobi league as you train your crew, craft new gear, interact with key characters, and choose your base’s buildings layout, decorations, and accessories.
Take advantage of an opening, then reposition rather than trading blows indefinitely. Naoe can punish an isolated enemy, but her lack of armor and limited combat resources put her at a disadvantage as enemy numbers rise. If additional enemies join, mobility and disengagement are safer priorities than trying to hold the line.
Crowd control: use the Kusarigama to make room
The Kusarigama is Naoe’s option for controlling multiple enemies: its reach can hit and push back a group. It also unlocks Rush Assassinate, which Ubisoft says can reach a target up to 10 meters away. Use those capabilities to interrupt pressure or create an opportunity to reach a target; don’t mistake them for proof that Naoe can absorb a prolonged group fight.

Tools can complement that plan. Xbox Wire’s weapons guide says kunai can kill many unarmored enemies with a headshot, while shuriken are more useful for stuns or distractions than for building around damage. Smoke bombs can help break contact when a fight turns against you.

Match perks to a purpose, not just rarity
Equipment has levels, quality, stats, and perks. Legendary items have unique, handpicked stats and a gameplay perk, but Ubisoft cautions that an Epic item can have stronger elements than a Legendary one. Compare the actual bonuses to your intended playstyle instead of choosing by rarity alone.

Keep favored equipment current
Your inventory can equip two weapons, headgear, armor, and a trinket or amulet. Equipment level, quality, and stats affect character strength. Much loot is randomized, while some predetermined Legendary items come from specific targets and castle chests. Upgrade the gear you rely on at the Hideout Forge so its level keeps pace with your character.
Unlock skills through Mastery and Knowledge
Mastery Points come from leveling up or defeating particular foes and unlock weapon skills and abilities. Knowledge ranks open more options in the Mastery trees; Ubisoft says reaching Knowledge Rank 6 makes all skills available in those trees, followed by a further Knowledge tree.
Change loadouts when the challenge changes
There is no reason to force one setup into every encounter. For stealth, favor assassination bonuses and the Tanto’s paired takedown option. For an isolated opponent, switch to abilities and perks that reinforce your preferred damage loop. When several enemies threaten to surround you, use the Kusarigama and tools to control space or disengage.
That situational approach also applies to Domains. Ubisoft’s June 16, 2026 announcement describes five challenge arenas with modifiers and new rewards, and advises adapting equipment to active modifiers while keeping gear leveled. The announcement does not establish that one Naoe build performs best across all of them. Treat the modifier and enemy type as reasons to adjust your loadout, not as a universal build recipe.
