Best Buy’s late-night openings for the Nintendo Switch 2 launch took place on June 5, 2025; they are not upcoming events. The company announced that nearly all U.S. stores would open at 12:01 a.m. ET for preorder pickups and limited walk-in sales, but its announcement does not establish whether any particular store participated.
When did Best Buy open for the Switch 2 launch?
Best Buy announced a 12:01 a.m. ET opening on June 5, 2025. The equivalent announced times were 11:01 p.m. CT, 10:01 p.m. MT, and 9:01 p.m. PT. These were the times in the company’s national announcement, not confirmation of an individual store’s local arrangements. Best Buy’s May 29, 2025 announcement said nearly all of its U.S. stores would open for the launch.

Could walk-in customers buy a Switch 2?
Yes, walk-in customers could try to buy one: Best Buy said a limited number of consoles, games, and accessories would be available. The announcement did not promise a console to everyone who arrived. Best Buy’s general release-day guidance says lines are first come, first served, that joining a line does not guarantee product availability, and that product limits can vary. Those current general guidelines should not be treated as a record of every local rule at the 2025 event. Best Buy’s in-store release guidelines also say it does not publish online inventory status for limited-release items.
Did every Best Buy store take part?
The company described the event as covering nearly all U.S. stores, not every store. The reviewed announcement does not identify which specific locations participated or give their exact local arrangements. Best Buy’s current store locator can help with present-day store information, but it cannot verify participation in the past Switch 2 opening.

Best Buy said customers picking up a preorder or purchasing a console in-store at 12:01 a.m. ET could receive a limited-edition Best Buy and Nintendo commemorative coin, while supplies lasted. The coin was not guaranteed.
