Choose a carrying case for transport
A carrying case surrounds the Deck in a backpack or luggage. Check screen and analog-stick clearance, zipper quality, charger storage and whether the interior accepts an installed shell. A case that closes only by pressing on controls is not a safe fit; never force the zipper.
Many owners need both
The shell protects your hands and the Deck during use; the transport case protects it in transit. Do not assume a shell fits Valve’s supplied case. Front covers, thumbstick caps, rear paddles and the OLED 1TB case liner can change the result.

Skull & Co. GripCase: best for hand comfort

Prefer a listing that explicitly says “Steam Deck LCD and OLED,” “Steam Deck 2022 and OLED,” or names your exact model. The OLED has a 7.4-inch display and revised internals while retaining similar external dimensions, so many accessories cross over but not all do.
- Check shoulder-button, trigger and rear-grip clearance.
- Confirm vents remain open and the USB-C and headphone ports are reachable.
- Check whether the case’s cradle accepts your shell and thumbstick caps.
- For an OLED 1TB, compare the exact official-case liner and interior dimensions.
- Use the vendor’s device selector; a listing for another handheld is not evidence of Steam Deck compatibility.
Docking and accessory checks that prevent returns
- Identify whether you use Valve’s dock or a third-party USB-C dock.
- Confirm the shell does not block the connector or dock side walls.
- Check whether the manufacturer requires a dock adapter or removing the shell.
- Test the full setup with thumbstick caps, rear buttons, trackpad skins, battery packs and front covers.
- Make sure a kickstand does not cover vents or ports when folded or deployed.
