Start with Medium at your monitor’s native resolution. It is the most sensible first balance among Castlebound’s three documented presets. If frame pacing becomes uneven during crowded fights or local co-op, select Low. Try High only after Low or Medium is demonstrably smooth on your system. These are practical starting recommendations, not measured FPS results: no public benchmark, target frame rate, GPU requirement, or detailed per-option controls have been published yet.
What graphics options does Castlebound have on PC?
Ogre Pixel’s August 14, 2025 Steam announcement documents three selectable graphic-quality presets in the settings menu: Low, Medium and High. The announcement does not list separate controls for resolution scaling, V-Sync, frame-rate limits, anti-aliasing, shadows, effects, textures or post-processing.

That distinction matters. You can make a reliable preset choice, but you cannot yet follow a proven “turn shadows down first” or “reduce effects before textures” optimization order. If a future build exposes individual controls, treat those as new options rather than assuming they behave like similarly named settings in another game.
Castlebound is described on Steam as a one-to-four-player action platformer with roguelike elements in which players defend a walking castle. A scene with several enemies, projectiles or local players can therefore be a more useful stress test than an empty area. The game is currently listed as coming to Steam, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on November 11, 2026; that is a planned date and can change.

Best starting preset: Medium
Why Medium is the sensible first test
Medium gives you a neutral baseline without assuming that your PC needs the lowest image-quality trade-off or can sustain the highest one. Begin at the display’s native resolution, launch a representative level, and play long enough to reach an enemy-heavy encounter. Watch for consistent motion rather than a single moment that happens to look smooth.
No published test establishes a particular frame rate for Medium at 1080p, 1440p or 4K. The recommendation is therefore about a controlled way to find your own stable setting, not a promise that Medium will reach a named FPS on every computer.
When to move down to Low
Choose Low if Medium produces visible hitching, uneven scrolling, delayed input or repeated slowdowns when many enemies are present. Test Low in the same type of encounter that exposed the problem. A setting that feels smooth in a quiet section but stutters in combat has not solved the practical issue.
Low is also the appropriate first fallback for local co-op. Additional players can increase the amount of action the game must draw and simulate, so evaluate the number of players you actually intend to use rather than testing only solo.
When High is justified
Try High only after Medium is consistently smooth in solo play and in your heaviest expected co-op scene. Raise the preset, repeat the same encounter, and keep High only if motion remains even and controls stay responsive. Because no developer benchmark exists, there is no evidence-based reason to select High automatically on a particular GPU model.

Step-by-step: finding your stable Castlebound setting
- Confirm the baseline. Use a Windows 10 or newer system that meets the published CPU, memory and storage figures described below. Close applications that are actively consuming processor time or memory before testing.
- Open the game’s settings menu. Locate the graphic-quality selector and note whether it is set to Low, Medium or High. Those are the three quality choices documented by the developer.
- Set the display to native resolution. Start without changing resolution, because native output gives you a consistent image-quality reference. The available evidence does not confirm whether Castlebound provides resolution scaling or a separate resolution selector.
- Test a repeatable scene. Use a demanding combat section, a wave with many enemies, or a full local co-op session. Repeat the same route when comparing presets so your observations are meaningful.
- Check frame pacing. Look for regular movement and input response, not only a high instantaneous counter. A brief peak does not prove that the setting is stable through combat.
- Switch to Low if motion is uneven. Return to the same scene and verify whether the hitching is reduced. If it is not, the cause may be outside the preset itself, such as a CPU, driver, background-process or game-build issue.
- Test High last. Increase the preset only when Medium or Low has clear headroom. Keep the lower preset if High introduces recurring stutter; visual quality is not worth an unreliable control response in an action platformer.
Published PC requirements and what they do—and do not—tell you
The official Steam listing publishes only a Windows minimum configuration. It does not publish a recommended configuration, a graphics-card requirement or a target frame rate.
| Component | Published Windows minimum | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 | The listing names Windows 10; newer Windows versions may work, but no separate compatibility statement is provided. |
| Processor | Intel Core i3 at 3.2 GHz | This is the listed minimum CPU specification, not a guarantee of a particular preset or frame rate. |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | Meeting the memory minimum does not establish how much headroom remains for co-op, background applications or future builds. |
| Storage | 1,000 MB available | The listing states the space required for installation; it does not identify whether an SSD is required or quantify loading times. |
| GPU | Not stated | No model, video-memory figure or graphics API requirement is published in the cited listing. |
| Recommended PC specification | Not stated | There is no official higher tier from which to derive a High-preset recommendation. |
| Target or tested FPS | Not stated | No named frame-rate target or public benchmark is available. |
A minimum specification is a floor for eligibility, not a performance guarantee. It cannot tell you whether a system will hold a particular frame rate, maintain smooth frame times in combat or support four-player local play at High.

If your system meets the listed minimum
A Windows PC with Windows 10, an Intel Core i3 running at 3.2 GHz, 8 GB of RAM and 1,000 MB of free storage matches the published baseline. Start at Medium and use the repeatable test above. The baseline alone does not establish a GPU because the official listing does not name one.
If your system is below the baseline
Expect uncertainty rather than a definite yes or no. A machine with less than 8 GB RAM, an older operating system or a slower processor is outside the published minimum, and there is no official evidence showing how it will perform. Freeing storage or closing background applications can remove avoidable pressure, but those steps do not turn an under-spec system into a supported configuration.
If your PC has no listed graphics card
Do not infer a required GPU model from the three presets. Until Ogre Pixel publishes a graphics-card minimum or a release build documents its renderer requirements, the correct answer to “What GPU do I need?” is that no model has been officially specified.

How to troubleshoot stutter, hitching and poor FPS
First identify the pattern
- Only combat slows down: reproduce the issue in a crowded encounter and compare Medium with Low.
- Only local co-op slows down: test with the same number of players you plan to use; do not rely on a solo result.
- Everything is uneven, including menus or quiet areas: investigate system load, drivers, thermal limits and background processes before changing presets repeatedly.
- The image is smooth but looks soft: verify that the display resolution has not been lowered unintentionally. The available documentation does not confirm a separate resolution-scaling control.
Use a controlled comparison
Change one documented variable at a time: Low, Medium or High. Keep resolution, player count and the test scene unchanged. Record the operating system, processor, graphics hardware, RAM, preset and observed frame-rate behavior. This prevents a scene change from being mistaken for an improvement.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Check ordinary Windows causes
- Close browser tabs, launchers and recording tools that are not needed for the test.
- Install current graphics drivers supplied for your GPU and restart Windows before retesting.
- Check that the system is not overheating or reducing clock speeds under load.
- Use the same power mode for each comparison, especially on a laptop that can switch between battery and plugged-in profiles.
- Verify that the game files are installed correctly if slowdowns began after an interrupted update.
These are general PC troubleshooting measures, not Castlebound-specific fixes. If Low still stutters on hardware that meets the minimum, the evidence available today cannot identify whether the cause is the game build, a driver interaction or a system bottleneck.
CPU, GPU and RAM: what can be concluded now?
CPU
The listed Intel Core i3 at 3.2 GHz is the only processor reference. It does not distinguish between generations, core counts or laptop and desktop implementations. A newer processor with a different model name cannot be ranked against that figure solely by clock speed.
GPU
No minimum or recommended GPU is published. It would be misleading to name a particular graphics card as “required” or to promise that any card will run High at a given resolution. Use the preset test after the release build is available, and treat any future benchmark as valid only when it states the GPU, driver, resolution, preset and scene.
Memory
Eight gigabytes of RAM is the official minimum. The listing does not say how much is consumed by the game, how much is advisable for four-player sessions or whether additional memory changes frame rate. If a system meets only the minimum, close other applications while testing rather than assuming that more RAM alone will solve every hitch.

Resolution, frame caps and other controls: what is unknown
The cited announcement confirms only the three quality presets. It does not confirm sliders or switches for resolution scaling, V-Sync, frame caps, anti-aliasing, shadows, effects or textures. Do not follow a per-setting optimization guide that claims to use those controls unless a later patch or release build actually exposes them.
If those options appear in a future version, document them separately from the preset comparison. For a reproducible report, record display resolution, GPU, CPU, RAM, Windows version, preset, each custom option and the observed frame-rate behavior. Without those details, two people can report different results while both believe they are testing “High.”
How to choose settings for solo and co-op play
Solo
Use Medium at native resolution as the initial profile. Move to High only after a combat test remains smooth, and move to Low when Medium produces repeated hitching.
Two to four players
Make the co-op session your deciding test. Begin at Medium, then play through the busiest scene with the intended player count. Select Low if motion or input becomes uneven. A solo High result does not prove that four-player play will be equally stable.
Recommended Free Tools
Prioritize control response
Castlebound’s action-platforming format makes consistent input more valuable than a higher visual preset that causes pauses. Keep the lowest preset that removes the recurring problem, then revisit High after updates or hardware changes.

What may change before launch
The Steam Community page currently lists November 11, 2026 for Steam, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, but release dates can change. Requirements and settings can also change before launch. Recheck the Steam store listing, developer announcements and patch notes when the PC build is released.
The most useful future additions would be a GPU minimum, a recommended PC tier, a target frame rate and a complete graphics-option list. Until those appear, avoid treating community guesses or isolated FPS claims as universal guidance.
